Jennifer Aniston at The Bounty movie set in Queens

Jennifer Aniston was snapped carrying this FEED bag while on the set of The Bounty.

The FEED bags were designed by the lovely Lauren Bush (niece of George W.), a lifelong vegetarian, environmentalist, and humanitarian.

Which is why we’re confused as to why the straps of the bag are made with leather. Maybe Lauren wasn’t aware of the materials when the bag was constructed. Or could she not be as strict with fashion and vegetarianism?

Lauren designed the bags to help support the UN World Food Program.

Pictured here, the FEED 2, will feed 2 school children in Kenya for 1 year when purchased.

Emily Deschanel, Kathy Freston Enjoy Animal Acres Gala 2009

Written by Vegetarian Star on Monday, September 14th, 2009 in Animal Issues, Food & Drink.

(500) Days of Summer Los Angeles Premiere

This weekend, stars flocked to the annual Animal Acres Gala for celebration.

Animal Acres is a non-profit animal advocacy organization that works to protect farmed animals through rescue and shelter, education, public outreach and investigating claims of abuse.

Ellen DeGeneres was this year’s honorary Gala chairperson and a host of celebrities, including emcee Hal Sparks, author Kathy Freston, actress Emily Deschanel and actor Ed Begley Jr. attended the celebration.

Drummer and author Bobby Rock received the “Compassion Into Action” award for his education efforts, which he said aren’t always easy when faced with the competition for meat and dairy advertisements people are bombarded with.

“It’s not easy, since the average kid gets 10,000 hits of animal agriculture through the media from hamburger commercials, to cheese from happy cows ads, to give eggs a break and we only get them for three hours,” Rock said.

Author of the Quantum Wellness books, Kathy Freston, was the recipient of the “Vegetarian Vision” Award.

Speaking of celebration, food always makes the party better and the Animal Acres Gala-a vegan catered event by Madeleine’s Bistro-was no different.

With menu items such as “Ham” ‘n cheese in filo, Mini mac and Philet-no-fish, you know thing’s had to taste good.

Kelly Osbourne Terrible Diet Still Vegetarian?

Written by Vegetarian Star on Monday, September 14th, 2009 in Food & Drink, Reality TV.

GQ Men Of The Year Awards at The Royal Opera House in London, UK

Kelly Osbourne has recently admitted she’s not the best of eaters.

“I have a terrible diet,” Kelly said, according to showbizspy.com. “Last night, I was eating Domino’s pizza because I had nothing in my fridge and I just got in and I couldn’t be arsed to go to the grocery store.”

We’re wondering if Kelly kept the pepperoni off that pizza.

She’s publicly stated she was a vegetarian in the past, but was then alleged to be seen partaking in turkey during a Thanksgiving feast.

Kelly recently showed her support for Paul McCartney‘s Meat-Free Mondays campaign-aimed to get people to go vegetarian once a week- by attending the launch ceremony.

Kelly can be seen on this season’s Dancing With The Stars, and she credits the show for helping her lose weight.

“Dancing is something that I have always wanted to do and the plus side is that I will lose weight and get super-toned,” she said. “I’m looking forward to that bit.”

Heard any news about Kelly’s diet?

Think she snacked on hummus and pita during her Dancing breaks?

Hot and an animal activist? Meow!

“Any man that can tame “reformed” dog-abuser Michael Vick must be manly, right? As head of the Humane Society of the United States, he has proven to have a huge heart thanks to his work on behalf of animals. That he has Kennedy-esque looks to go along with his animal advocacy makes many purr even more.”

If you’re the stalker type admirer, you can follow Wayne’s blog at hsus.typepad.com/wayne and find out  his whereabouts-which consists of activism all over the country from reaching out to communities to end dogfighting to pushing for legislation on Capitol Hill to hosting fund raising events for the HSUS.

No, we don’t have his number.

You’ll have to get involved in animal rights, attend a HSUS event and ask him yourself.

2009 NATO Summit

Blue Hill restaurant in New York received a great deal of attention after a tipster told the press Barack Obama and wife Michelle had a dinner date there.

Now, Observer writer Rachel Cook is calling vegetables from Blue Hill the “new sex.”

This should really increase business.

“Mesmerised, I removed a carrot from its spike, and took a bite. “Vegetables,” I thought. “They’re the new sex.”

Blue Hill is somewhat an environmental eatery, with ingredients being sourced from local farmers, Barber being championed a locavore by the media.

But Blue Hill isn’t a vegetarian restaurant, by any means.

The menu will make you cover your eyes as selections containing pork, chicken, and the dreaded baby animal veal are included.

And Blue Hill chef Dan Barber has discussed how to make foie gras for his restaurant in the future.

To experiment, Barber had “free-range” geese and didn’t use gavage.

An expert he called upon, Eduardo Sousa, doesn’t believe in force feeding methods to fatten a goose’s liver, saying he believes in “ethical foie gras.”

Barber was less than satisfied, calling the geese livers “ping-pong sized.”

In his determination to succeed in getting foie gras on the plate, will Barber resort to crueler farming practices?

Ideally, Blue Hill would put more locally grown plant based dishes on its menu.

Perhaps find that sought after chef who can create faux foie gras.

Because at Blue Hill, vegetables may be the new sex, but they’re not having nearly as much of it as they could.

“Repo Chick” Vegan Terrorists Want Vegan, Anti-Golf Government

Written by Vegetarian Star on Sunday, September 13th, 2009 in Film & TV, Food & Drink.

RepoChick-001-2009-l-ds-201x300

Alex Cox‘s (1984 Repo Man) new movie, Repo Chick, premiered at the Venice Film Festival last week.

Repo Chick features vegan, environmental terrorists with two goals in mind:

1. Ban golfing
2. Make the entire government go vegan

If this description doesn’t already have you in stitches, here’s an excerpt from Variety.com:

“After being disinherited, a spoiled heiress goes into the repossession biz and stumbles onto anti-golf vegan terrorists in helmer Alex Cox’s goofy comedy “Repo Chick.”…The plot kicks off with bratty, Paris Hiltonian heiress Pixxi de la Chasse (Jaclyn Jonet) being disinherited by her family (played by Xander Berkeley, Frances Bay and Karen Black) after one too many joyrides without a driver’s license and public dalliances with boy-band backup dancers. Her only way back into the family’s good graces is to prove she can knuckle down and fend for herself with a real job.”

The real job of the Paris Hiltonian, of course, is to take down the vegan, anti-golf terrorists who’ve stolen an antique train and are using it to transport missiles.

We hate the fact that the bad guys in pursuit just happen to be vegans.

Would’ve been better if Pixxie herself was a vegan crime fighter taking down the terrorists.

Another negative stereoptype of the vegan environmentalist…

Hopefully, we’ll at least get some humor out of it.
