Bar Refaeli, Leonardo DiCaprio Shop At Whole Foods

2009 Vanity Fair Oscar Party Hosted By Graydon Carter - Arrivals

Update 2/28/09: We are so sad to learn that Bar is NOT a vegetarian. Although a few sources said she was, as of now, we learn she admits to eating a cheeseburger and fries once a week. Boo!

The rumored vegetarian model and girlfriend of Leonardo DiCaprio, Bar Refaeli, was spotted shopping with her man Leo at Whole Foods.

The two packed the groceries on the back of Leo’s motorcycle.

If case you’ve forgotten (but don’t see how you could have), Bar is the latest Sports Illustrated Swimsuit hottie.

Many of our favorite veg celebs have been spotted at Whole Foods (possibly picking up organic vegetables from China), including Milo Ventimiglia, Stella McCartney, and Anne Hathaway.

Erykah Badu joked it was so expensive to shop there, you had to have a record deal to do so. With the amount of money Bar rakes in from showing off her bod, it’s safe to assume recording artists and models can afford to shop there.

You can view pic of Bar and Leo with their groceries at Popsugar.

Cameron Diaz Ate Veg Curry, Naan At Madonna’s Oscar Party

2009 Film Independent Spirit Awards - Arrivals

Madonna the Material Girl threw an Oscar party recently where the theme appeared to be “Slumdog Millionaire,” according to the UK Daily Mail.

Since we know what a stickler Madonna is about veg food, of course there was plenty to go around.

Cameron Diaz was spotted soaking up the vegetarian curry and naan bread like a fish (or sea kitten) to water.

In addition to the curry and naan, Madge provided plenty of traditional Indian food at the bash where Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs was the DJ and MC.

Cameron was once a vegetarian, but apparently was such a McDonald’s fanatic, she gave it up.

Aw, shucks! That McCurry and McNaan happy meal flatters her so much better.

“They are marshmallows. Or at least marshmallow-like treats.”

“And they claim to be “vegan.” But how can you really tell?”

“Because if you look at this symbol, it seems like they don’t quite understand what “vegan” means.”

“100% vegan. And now with real rabbit.”

—-Lost actor Jorge Garcia, on the irony of how a symbol for a vegan product is an animal. Apparently, the maker of the product, Sweet and Sara, had a rabbit for a childhood pet named Skipper. The bunny logo serves as a symbol that no animals were harmed in the production (ingredients or byproducts) of the marshmallows.

Obama Administration’s Stricter Labeling Applies To Some Produce

Written by Vegetarian Star on Friday, February 27th, 2009 in Food & Drink, Politicians, Videos.

Obama Addresses Marines At Camp Lejeune

The Obama administration is calling for the stricter labeling of foods to show the origin of the country the food or animal is from.

While much of this law would apply to the meat industry, it would also apply to some perishable forms of fruits and vegetables.

“The bottom line is we think people have a right to know and they can act on it based on their own opinions and preferences,” said Patty Lovera of Food and Water Watch.

Whole Foods had an assortment of frozen vegetables in their freezer, including “California blend” vegetables, organically grown in China, which doesn’t have the same organic monitoring standards as the US.

Maybe the new legislation can require bigger letters for the labels as well.

Although the country of origin was noted on the package, most wouldn’t have thought to look for the tiny print on a blend of frozen “California” vegetables.

Natalie Portman Mocks Ben Stiller, Meat Plant At Oscars

Written by Vegetarian Star on Friday, February 27th, 2009 in Actresses, Videos.

Besides donning her lovely vegan shoes and ethical jewelry at the Academy Awards recently, vegan Natalie Portman also took a stab at a meat processing plant.

She and Ben Stiller presented an award together, and Ben decided to imitate the recent makeover, or shall we say unmakeover, of vegan Joaquin Phoenix, sporting a long scruffy beard and matching unkempt hairdo, complete with weirdo behavior.

Portman said, “You look like you work in a Hasidic meth lab.”

Many are speculating Portman was referring to a 2008 federal raid on a Hasidic-owned and operated Agriprocessors meat processing plant in Postville, Iowa.

Authorities discovered several infractions, including equipment for producing methamphetamines.

This is the same plant at which PETA secretly recorded a video on its controversial slaughter practices.

Other allegations included rabbis insulting workers while throwing meat at them, undocumented and illegal workers, and various health and safety issues.

Hey Youngins’: Y’all Know Who Linda McCartney Was?

Written by Vegetarian Star on Friday, February 27th, 2009 in Business.

Live And Let Die

The Linda McCartney food range has recently revamped it’s packaging.

Besides the new slogan, “Food to Come Home To,” the new package features photographs of Linda and a history of the brand.

“We did a lot of research and found that a large proportion of the vegetarian market are under 25, and wouldn’t necessarily know who Linda McCartney was,” said Julian Roberts, director for Irving Designs, the company which worked with the McCartney family, including Paul, Stella, and Mary.

That’s a good point. Unless you’re an old soul who happens to be a Beatles fan or you grew up with parents who were never cured of Beatlemania, you might not know the story of the lovely Linda, late wife of Paul McCartney.

Behind every good man is a good woman, and it was Linda who introduced vegetarianism to Paul in the 70s. She wrote several vegetarian cookbooks, including Linda McCartney’s Home Cooking: Quick, Easy, and Economical Vegetarian Dishes For Today.

In 1991 she created the Linda McCartney Frozen Foods Line.

In addition to being outspoken about her diet, she was an animal activist and PETA created an award in her name after her death in 1998.

Stephenie Meyer’s Vegetarian Platter Reduced To Counter Top

Breaking Dawn Concert Series With Stephenie Meyer & Justin Furstenfeld

Some artists are so multi-talented they can write, direct, and even star in their own scripts. Talk about attention hogs.

Anyone who’s watched Twilight and knows what the author of the book series, Stephenie Meyer, looks like, remembers seeing her cameo in the coffee shop where Bella and her dad are having lunch.

Earlier reports had mentioned Stephenie was going to order a vegetarian platter during her appearance.

But as any fan knows, her scene was reduced to one shot sitting at the counter.

But Meyer isn’t what you’d call an attention hog, as she was reluctant to even do that scene.

“It was not my idea to do the cameo,” she said. “They talked me into it. They thought it would be, you know, cute for the fans because most of them would recognize me. I was thinking it was going to be more like a ‘Where’s Waldo?’ thing. Like I walk by for one second in a crowd and if they can find me, cool. That’s the one scene in the movie I would happily cut — the first five seconds, and the one that I had to watch like, I mean like this [covering her eyes], ‘Ah, is it over yet?’ It was really hard for me.”
