NBA Female Scout Bonnie-Jill Laflin Banks On Vegetarianism

Written by Vegetarian Star on Saturday, December 6th, 2008 in Athletes-Games-Sports, Videos.

The economy is ruthless. Costs are soaring, the market is unpredictable, and people are losing everything-including their clothing.

PETA’s latest ad features vegetarian Bonnie-Jill Laflin, a former Dallas Cowboy cheerleader and first female scout for the NBA, nude and reminding us the only surefire way to bank on your health is to go vegetarian.

Not only can a vegetarian diet be cheaper, but PETA wants you to realize it’s an investment in your body, including preventing a crash worse than Wall Street’s downfall-impotence.

Watch the video below for behind the scenes footage and don’t forget to enter to win a piggy bank filled with vegan chocolate money.

Andy Hurley’s Vegan, Straight-Edgeness Keeps Tabloids Away

Written by Vegetarian Star on Saturday, December 6th, 2008 in Male Musicians.

MTV Presents

The media likes to rip on celebrities, and with the band Fall Out Boy, it seems Pete Wentz is the favorite whipping boy. But what if it were drummer Andy Hurley? What would the tabloids have to say about him? Nothing much, according to Hurley. In an interview with College Times:

“I’m vegan straight-edge, so I’m never going to be stumbling out of a bar drunk. Maybe I’ll trip and fall once, and somebody will get a funny picture of it. When I’m home – I live in Milwaukee – and no one cares in the first place, but I pretty much just go to movies and go eat and play Call of Duty with my friends.”

No, there’s not really much you can write about if you want to trash Andy. But rest assured, if we hear of anything, we’ll tell you. If we ever catch him ingesting butter…

Shahid Kapoor’s Dog May Fart Less Due To Vegetarian Diet

Written by Vegetarian Star on Saturday, December 6th, 2008 in Actors, Bollywood, Food & Drink.

Following the trends of Alicia Silverstone and Paul McCartney, a Bollywood actor has decided to put his puppy on a vegetarian diet.

Shahid Kapoor is a vegetarian Bollywood babe who once dated fellow Bollywood babe Karena Kapoor, also vegetarian.

According to Bollywood Celeb Den, a source revealed that, “Shahid has put his doggie on a veg diet. The poor animal is not allowed to eat any sort of meat!” And not even the bone.

While the source may feel sorry for this dog, we know he or she is getting the good stuff! And like Alicia Silverstone’s dogs, he’s probably not farting nearly as much as before. The dog, that is. We can’t speak for Shahid.

Ellen Degeneres Had Chicago Diner Vegan Hot Wings Fed Ex’ed

Written by Vegetarian Star on Friday, December 5th, 2008 in Food & Drink, TV Hosts.

Comedian Ellen Degeneres arrives at The Comedy Festival 2008

There are foodies. And then there are fanatical foodies. When you love vegan hot wings so much, you have them Fed Ex’ed from Chicago to Burbank, California, you qualify for the latter. But hey, when you’re Ellen Degeneres, you can Fed Ex whatever you want.

Ellen ate at The Chicago Diner while filming her show in Chicago a few months ago. She liked the BBQ vegan seitan buffalo wings so much, she had the restaurant Fed Ex more when she got back to California.

Ellen even considered flying the restaurant’s pastry chef out to California to cater her and Portia’s completely vegan wedding.

Those of you in the Chicagoland area know what we’re talking about!

The Chicago Diner, which has a slogan of “Meat free since ’83,” is a completely vegetarian and almost vegan restaurant located on the north side of the Windy City. You can get anything from Radical “Reuben” sandwiches with seitan to BBQ Bacon Cheese “Burgers” to tofu scramblers to roasted vegetable lasagnas.

Nope, flying Chicago Diner vegan buffalo wings from Chi-Town to Cali ain’t a bad thing at all. It’s definitely better than flying truckloads of bacon from England to Italy.

Natalie Portman’s Vegan Shoes Stomped Out By Economy

Written by Vegetarian Star on Friday, December 5th, 2008 in Actresses, Fashion.

Te Casan Vegan Footwear Collection Launch Party

Very, very sad week for eco-friendly shoes lovers.

Proof that celebrities are not immune to the financial problems the world is enduring, Natalie Portman’s vegan shoes are no longer being produced. The parent company, Te Casan, closed shop, due to failing sales.

It’s not known whether Nat will take her shoes elsewhere for production for the line that was launched in February of this year. The shoes went for about $200 a pair-not exactly a bargain, which may have turned off a lot of people in this economy.

The forecast for affordable, quality, cruelty-free clothing is somewhat grim. Vegan shoes are hard enough to find. Vegan shoes that allow you to still be able to keep the lights on the same month you purchase them may be even more difficult to locate.

Could this mean that vegans and vegetarians who don’t wear leather will end up settling for cheap, imported, pleather shoes which tear and fade after a week and bang your feet up so badly, you need band-aids on your toes just to wear them?

Leona Lewis recognizes this problem and says she wants to make her future vegan shoes and bags easier on the bank account.

Leona, your help can’t come soon enough.

Meatless Mouthful: Ingrid Newkirk Follows Chrissie Hynde’s Lead

Written by Vegetarian Star on Thursday, December 4th, 2008 in Animal Issues, Authors, Meatless Mouthful.

PETA?s 15th Anniversary Gala and Humanitarian Awards - Show

“I’m a great subscriber to Chrissie Hynde’s perspective that when you’re working for a social cause, the danger isn’t in going far enough or feeling embarrassed or that it’s in bad taste. You’ve got to really push the envelope. Animals are in desperate trouble in the fur farms, in the laboratories.”

—-Ingrid Newkirk, President of People For The Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), when asked if there were any animal rights campaigns she regretted during an interview with Willamette Week.

Victoria Beckham Thinks Fake Fur Is The Posh Spice

Written by Vegetarian Star on Thursday, December 4th, 2008 in Female Musicians, Female Singers, Fur.

Reception For Sir Elton John And David Furnish

So what if she can’t cook vegetarian? Victoria Beckham is doing her part by taking a stand against fur.

The Posh Spice is often seen around the town with hubby David in what looks to be fur, but according to a source, when it comes to these types of fashions, Victoria’s a complete phony.

“Victoria never wears real fur,” the source said. “Lots of her designer friends now make faux fur jackets.”

She’s recently launched a custom fitted clothing range and has pledged not to use real fur in her fashions. This of course, is a stark contrast to another celebrity British female, nicknamed in some gossip blogs as “Liz Furley,” who teamed up with U.S. fur company Blackglama.

So we’ll try to lay off Victoria for her chef limitations. Anyone can learn to cook. Taking a moral stance shows true genius.

Daryl Hannah Makes Birthday Splash On Whale Wars Boat

Written by Vegetarian Star on Thursday, December 4th, 2008 in Actresses.

AFI FEST 2006 Portrait Session With Daryl Hannah

Daryl Hannah is making a very different type of Splash from the movie where she starred as a mermaid in 1984.

She marked her 48th birthday, December 3rd, by joining the crew of “Whale Wars” on the Steve Irwin boat to cruise the seas and attempt to stop Japanese whale hunters. (And looking darn fine for a woman near 50, we might add.)

Whale hunting is illegal, but the hunters claim to be doing so for research purposes, which gives them a loophole around the rule. Apparently, Hannah is riding with a winning team. Last year, although the hunters aimed to kill 1,000 whales, they only succeeded in doing so for about half those numbers, thanks to the activists hindering their efforts.

In the past, the crew has attempted to thwart hunters’ efforts through non-violent methods, such as throwing stink bombs with rancid butter on the hunters’ boats and obstructing their pathways in the sea.
