Carol Leifer Learned Truth About “Humane” Meat

Matthew Fox, Kiefer Sutherland and The All-American Rejects visit The Late Show With David Letterman

Carol Leifer recently went vegan and recorded a hilarious PSA for the diet and lifetsyle.

As a Jewish woman, the comedian and author used to eat Kosher meat, thinking it was okay because animals weren’t really harmed.

Today, she’s thankfully opened her eyes.

“Growing up, it was always, ‘If you buy kosher meat, they’re killed humanely,'” Carol told forward.com.

“But I’ve seen so many horrible videos. What we thought was humane 100 years ago is not humane anymore. The ways animals suffer, I just couldn’t be a part of it anymore.”

“I’m sorry I didn’t have this revelation earlier. I sleep better and more soundly because I’m not participating anymore.”

These days, Carol gets a good night’s sleep by enjoying  “Ficken,” otherwise known as fake chicken.

Finger Ficken Good has such a better punch than that crummy KFC line.

Read the entire story at forward.com, which mentions a headline we used months ago when Carol went vegan publicly.

Hey, Forward, we never said “weird” was a bad thing!

It’s all in the name of veg humor!

Julia Child Home Occupied By Vegetarian Now

Julia Child was not exactly known for her love of vegetarian food or vegetarians.

So it’s a funny and refreshing coincidence to learn Child’s old home is now occupied by a vegetarian and animal rights activist.

Lisa Landsverk is the owner of Child’s house on Irving Street in Cambridge where Child lived and cooked for 43 years.

Landsverk said the situation is a “bit ironic.”

Inside the home, there is a painting of a cow with a caption that reads, “Nobody says when I grow up I want to be a hamburger.”

Fans and media stop by to take pictures of the home and one person even left a stick of butter on the fence post.

Yeah…we were thinking the same thing-CREEPY!

As part of the hoopla surrounding the movie, Julia & Julia, Landsverk allowed a reporter into her home and cooked one of Julia’s recipes-a completely vegan one.

“Landsverk chose ratatouille for an entrée – she liked Child’s assertion that the eggplant casserole “perfumes the kitchen with the essence of Provence’’ – and, for dessert, pêches cardinal, a compote of fresh peaches with raspberry purée.”

Forty-three years of meaty cooking in the kitchen?

The ironic situation of Landsverk living in Child’s home now is good karma that’s been long overdue.

TIFF 2007 - In The Valley Of Elah North American Premiere

Rachael Leigh Cook, actress best known for her role in the romantic comedy She’s All That and the “Your Brain on Drugs” anti-drug PSA,  recently sat down with Coco Eco magazine where she revealed she’s been going veg strong for well over a decade!

“Let’s see….it’ll be almost sixteen years. I’ll be thirty in October and I guess I was 14,15 when I started that. I was thrilled to find out that being a vegetarian was such a good, green thing to do. I heard people who were regular meat eaters produce a ton of carbon emissions a year. And that really blew my mind. Being vegetarian is not for everybody. I’m not a pusher of it. I do partake in some leather goods but I don’t feel too horrible about it because the animal probably got eaten.”

Coco Eco is like, totally eco, because they’ve got their magazine online!

Check it out and be sure to take a look at Rachael’s feature.

3.1 Phillip Lim LA Store - One Year Anniversary Party

Leona Lewis had a recent creepy crawly scare while shooting a video in Malibu.

During the shoot, somehow a tarantula nest was disturbed, and the entire network of friends and family of spiders came crawling out.

Since Leona was so terrified, the shoot had to be delayed by 2 hours while pest control came in and took care of the problem.

Ooooh. You can hear the critics already.

Leona Lewis, a staunch vegetarian who turned down over a million dollars to perform at a store that sold fur is okay with killing spiders?

It could be argued that the shoot could have been moved elsewhere while the spiders were left to call their insurance company for rebuild quotes.

But Leona’s crew chose to exterminate them instead.

Maybe not the kindest chose, but no one is perfect.

Soon we’ll see how the vegetarian haters, PETA mockers, and media predators in general treat this incident.

Jared Leto isn’t the only one who can save a spider from the death penalty.

Fall Out Boy was hanging out in South Korea when a spider was spied in one of their rooms.

After contemplating what to do with it, including placing it in Cobra Starship’s dressing room, the great veg man Patrick Stump caught the spider and returned it to its proper environment.

Apparently, there are vegetarian spiders who pass on the ants and go for the greens instead.

Learn something new everyday!

3rd Annual Black Girls Rock! Awards

Erykah Badu is known for visiting her hometown food joints, such as the Spiral Diner.

The latest news is that the soul singing diva likes to frequent a vegan bakery called Tough Cookie Bakery in Dallas, Texas.

From pegasunews.com:

“Even Erykah Badu is known to swing by The Green Spot every now and then to pick up a few those oh-so-decadent vegan cinnamon rolls we all dream about. And who can blame her? (Hmm — I wonder if she’s also responsible for those empty trays at The Pearl Cup…)”

“Well, Erykah — maybe your next cinnamon roll will include a little love from me, too!”

Tough Cookie makes not so tough tasting vegan cookies, muffins, pretzels and cinnamon rolls and is looking to create their own line of gluten-free pastries, pizza crusts, pies and breads in the future.
