Ginnifer Goodwin, Ex Cheeseburger Gal, Shows Off Vegan Appetite

Written by Vegetarian Star on Monday, May 11th, 2009 in Actresses, Food & Drink.

Celebs attend the 23rd Genesis Awards in great fashion W Magazine (which is on a roll doing some fantastic regular vegan features, by the way) recently interviewed actress Ginnifer Goodwin, where they discovered the newlywed vegan used to have some Big Love for cheeseburgers.

“People keep saying to me, ‘Ginny, you were such a cheeseburger person; that was, like, your thing,'” Ginnifer told W.

“I’m so anti body-image issues. It was always part of my identity that I would show off by eating everything. But I’ve made a decision that I could not continue to support these [meat] industries.”

But that doesn’t mean Ginnifer can’t enjoy a big meal like in her pre-vegan days.

While doing the interview, Ginnifer was scarfing down spaghetti and “wheat” balls at a vegan eatery in Greenwich village.

And we already know she doesn’t go without her taco fix for long. Or her vegan pancakes, which may have her doing an Olivia Wilde eating contest on somebody.

We still know you’re the Queen of Eating, Ginnifer. Now you wear a healthier, less cruel crown.

Liberty Lord Phoenix Has Eco-Friendly Home Supply Store

Written by Vegetarian Star on Monday, May 11th, 2009 in Actresses, Business, Environment-Eco-Green.

20th Century Fox Premiere Of Walk The Line

Although not as active in the film industry as her siblings, Liberty Lord Phoenix (shown on left), sister of Joaquin Phoenix, has film credits from the 80s, including Kate’s Secret and Seven Brides For Seven Brothers.

Not that she would have time for that anyway, as this lady has just celebrated the second anniversary of her business, Indigo Green Store in Gainesville, Florida. Her store specializes in environmentally friendly and non-toxic building and home supplies and gifts.

Indigo’s shelves are stocked with eco-friendly products from natural based cleaners to bamboo flooring

Liberty credits her parents for her success and awareness of what it means to be a responsible citizen of the planet.

“Both of my parents raised me vegan and have taught me to love and respect the Earth through not eating animals, recycling, organic gardening, conserving resources and doing all I can on a daily basis to help reduce my impact,” she said.

Good to know she’s appreciative of mom and pop’s teachings now, but wonder if she rebelled with a cheese pizza in her youth like Joaquin did?

She was suffering from several medical problems that doctors couldn’t solve, including hay fever, asthma and insomnia. She started a juice fast, which cured her ailments, and the rest is veggie history.

The actress and Dancing With The Stars contestant is a strong advocate of the diet, posed for PETA for the Let Vegetarianism Grow On You campaign, and even chided a fan during her book signing for drinking soda pop.

“Quit, why don’t you?” Cloris admonished. “It will save your life. Start having juice.”

Gwyneth Paltrow Finally Admits She Hates Vegetables, Eats Rhinos

Written by Vegetarian Star on Saturday, May 9th, 2009 in Actresses, Not So Vegetarian.

The West Coast premiere of Valentino: The Last Emperor, LACMA, Los Angeles, CaliforniaWe have mocked Gwyneth Paltrow more than a few times on her two-faced vegetarianism which has consisted of such acts as saying no to meat publicly, then teaching others to grind turkey patties.

Now, The Spoof, a fictitious news blog, is getting in on the action and has written a hilarious satire where Gwyneth readily admits she hates vegetables and goes to a park in South Africa to eat rhinos.

“Fading actress Gwyneth Paltrow has admitted, after six years of marriage and the same amount of years as a vegetarian, that she does not, in fact, like vegetables.”

“Paltrow claimed her husband took the news surprisingly well and is taking her out for dinner tonight at an all-you-can-eat Game Park in Johannesburg, South Africa.”

“”I’m so hungry I could eat the arse out of a dead rhino!” said Paltrow, licking her lips with glee. Martin had no comment, preferring to simply sulk instead.”

2009 Heart Of Green Awards
We told you a long time ago that Alicia Silverstone likes her balls raw, but another raw food staple she enjoys is Nori.

Although her vegan diet book, The Kind Diet, isn’t set to debut until the fall, Alicia just couldn’t wait to spill the vegan refried beans to Fitsguar.com about some of the recipes in it.

“One of the recipes in my book is leftover nori (a type of seaweed) wraps,” Silverstone said. “Anything in the fridge I want to use up, I shove into nori. It’s delicious.”

“It makes your skin look amazing and your hair really strong.”

Yep, Nori is full of good for you stuff like calcium, iron, and magnesium. You can make yourself some awesome veggie sushi or wrap it up and stuff it with veggies and dressing.

And who doesn’t like eating like a star?

If you have a good idea for using Nori or any other seaweed, you know the drill. You must speak now!

You say potato. I say tomato. We say Who Would You. Fancast says “Would You Rather.”

Fancast.com recently asked a series of situational questions to Better Off Ted co-stars Jonathan Slavin and Malcolm Barrett. Better Off Ted is an ABC comedy about a research company that investigates futuristic type ideas like test tube meat.

Would you rather eat beef without cows or pork without pigs?
MB: I don’t want to eat any of those things. You [Jonathan] eat beef without cows now! Tofu and seitan!
JS: He says he wouldn’t eat any of those things, but I’m telling you, the first lunch break we had he’d be like ‘I’m hungry.’ He’d put them on a tortilla and go to town.
MB: I’d wrap it up.

Would you rather spend eternity on a deserted island with Portia De Rossi or Jay Harrington?
MB & JS: [together] Portia!
JS: Portia and I are both gay vegans, so we have so much to talk about.
MB: I just think at some point she’s got to get naked.

Of course, if only Portia and Jonathan were stranded on the island together, at least it wouldn’t be hard to decide on what to eat for dinner every evening. Unless, Jonathan demanded berry soup and Portia wanted leaf stew. Television stars can be divas.

Blossom’s Mayim Bialik Reluctant To Classify Faith And Vegan Diet

Written by Vegetarian Star on Thursday, May 7th, 2009 in Actresses.

Opening Of CavaliaMayim Bialik entertained adolescents in the early 90s on the NBC sitcom, Blossom, with wild looking vintage store outfits, frank discussions about issues like puberty, and a recovering drug addict brother named Joey with an obsessive tendency to use his catch phrase, “Whoa,” one time too many.

Mayim is all grown up now, with a PhD in neuroscience (read about her work on Prader-Willi syndrome) and quite active with her Jewish faith and in the Jewish community.

She recently interviewed with Jewcy.com, where she admitted it’s hard to classify herself, both faithwise and diet.

“I’m hesitant to label myself or call myself Orthodox because people will be like, “Celebrity Mayim Bialik says she does X, but I saw her doing Y” – I guess, to be safe, I would say I’m Conservative, but in reality, I’d say Conservadox. But my husband and I have definitely increased our observance over the years, and we’re always trying to grow.”

“We kinda do the Big Three [Shabbos, keeping kosher, and family purity], but it’s hard. I mean, it’s hard for everyone to classify themselves, but it’s a whole new level of hard when people are watching you. Like, I pretty much eat a vegan diet, but I eat eggs if they’re in things. What I say is, I eat a mostly vegan diet, and that’s kind of how it is with Judaism. We keep Shabbos, we keep kosher, and I don’t know if people want to hear about the Mikveh, but, um, yeah.”

Kirstie Alley: The Bad Vegetarian

Written by Vegetarian Star on Thursday, May 7th, 2009 in Actresses.

5th Annual TV Land Awards - ShowKirstie Alley is giving vegetarians a bad name.

The actress recently admitted to People magazine that she’s gained 83 pounds after quitting the Jenny Craig diet in 2007. She also become a vegetarian for seven months and ate all the wrong meatless things.

“I can’t tell you how much weight I gained being a vegetarian! A vegetarian would probably be eating vegetables,” Kirstie said.

“But to me being a vegetarian meant I’m going to eat enchiladas with no meat, and I’m going to eat lots of bread, lots of carbs.”

When are these Hollywood actresses going to learn nutrition?

Maybe Bethenny Frankel could teach Kirstie to put some tofu on that bread and make an open faced sandwich. She should try stuffing her enchiladas with low fat beans just as hard as gals try to stuff themselves into a pair of their pre pregnancy jeans after delivery. And stop having hookups with cheese.

Speaking of hookups, Kirstie mentioned she has a “thing” for actor Jamie Foxx.

“I want a booty call with Jamie Foxx — for real. I’ve always had a bit of thing for him.”

Sorry, Kirstie we don’t have dating expertise. We’ll just help you recognize good carbs.
