Quantcast Vegetarian Starvegan (191)

Simone Reyes

Simone Reyes may be Russell Simmon‘s assistant when it comes to business, but in the vegan and animal rights boardroom, this lovely lady has proven time and time again she’s in charge and everyone should follow orders.

She’s shared vegan beauty products with fans, made herself a piece of meat to promote vegetarianism and now, she’s written a piece at Global Grind to educate readers that milk from a cow may not do a body good at all.

Reyes gives several arguments against cow’s milk, including the fact most Americans stop producing enzymes to digest it soon after birth.

“When I talk to people about food, I say to them, “If you have a really great car, what do you do? You take care of it. Your body is the most expensive car you have. Don’t overfuel it.Take care of it. Give it the best fuel you possibly can. People say, “I like to eat junk food.” You’re taking really low-grade gas and putting it in your car and asking it to run at its optimal. And it’s never going to work.”

LunchHour

A new documentary that examines the relationship behind childhood obesity and The National School Lunch Program features several individuals prominent in the vegan community.

Written and co-directed by James Costa, Lunch Hour will be screened at the Palm Beach Food Festival tomorrow, Wednesday April 18, from 12:00 to 1:30 PM.

Talk radio host Robin Quivers, vegan chef Alex Jamieson and Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine’s Dr. Neal Barnard and Elizabeth Kucinich all have clips in the film and give their input on making cafeteria food healthier.

Dr. Barnard demonstrated with graduated cylinders how much fat can be eliminated from a child’s diet for each day the school serves veggie burgers.

“At most schools in America, the only choice the child gets is that and nothing else,” Dr. Barnard said, holding up the cylinder with the greatest amount of fat in it.

Written by Vegetarian Star on Monday, April 16th, 2012 in Actresses, Children, Food & Drink.

Mayim Bialik

Mayim Bialik‘s Ph.D is in neuroscience and not vegan parenting, but the childhood Blossom actress who grew up to keep fans laughing on shows such as The Big Bang Theory has a wealth of knowledge to share for moms and dads interested in packing tofu instead of turkey in their children’s lunch boxes (hint: find a vegan  pediatrician to back you up in diet decisions).

“My health is so much better. I’m bigger now than I was eating meat. My lifts in the gym are better. I’m in better shape. A lot of people thought you couldn’t be a top-level athlete as a vegan, but people like Mac Danzig and Jake Shields are proving that’s wrong. And it’s better for me as a performer.”

Daniel Bryan, WWE athlete who’s (as you can see from his statement) got plenty of company in the crowd of vegetarian/vegan wrestlers. Bryan says he eats “a lot of Asian food — brown rice and vegetables, salad and protein shakes,” but he does allow himself the occasional vegan cupcake. We assume it has good things like chocolate and vanilla on it, versus brown rice and vegetables frosting.
