Jennifer Widerstrom from NBC’s Biggest Loser is teaching fitness by practicing what she preaches.

A former American Gladiators star, she’s known for her ripped physique and athletic skills. But she’s recently experienced an enlightenment that’s made her think as much about what she’s lifting with her fork as what she’s lifting on the barbell.

“I try to eat more green stuff now. I’d be really good and then be really bad. Now I’m more consistent. Like for lunch today, I’m going to get a vegetarian wrap with lettuce, where before I would have gotten a fried chicken sandwich and fries … because that’s the way I feel today,” she says.

Ruben Studdard

Ruben Studdard is one of several celebrities aiming to get fit and lose the pounds on the latest season of the celebrity edition of The Biggest Loser.

Ruben Studdard is looking to add The Biggest Loser to his list of championships that include American Idol.

The singer will compete on the weight loss reality TV show to accomplish a task he was only able to do before by following a vegetarian diet.

“Every week we would start by writing out a meal plan and calories,” Studdard said about losing 70 pounds in 2006 by giving up meat. “The people at the vegetarian store in Birmingham are like, ‘What’s he doing in here?'”

The Biggest Loser is helping some teenage contestants get fit this season.

Pediatrician Dr. Joanna Dolgoff paid a visit to several of the competitors in the weight reduction challenge to discuss healthy eating and ways to improve their diet.

Sunny is a longtime vegetarian who learned that even though she’s already following a healthy diet, even vegetarians can be guilty of the wrong kind of indulgences. In Sunny’s case, Dr. Dolgoff warns of the dangers of being a “carbotarian.”

Former Vegan Bob Harper Now Thinks Dinner Is About The Birds

When an aspiring Biggest Loser heads to the kitchen and comes back with a low-fat drink made of almond milk, he’s not the loser for the week, regardless of weight lost.

On a recent episode, the contestants teamed up to make meals worthy of the praise of celebrity chefs and America’s Next Great Restaurant judges Curtis Stone and Lorena Garcia.

Ken and Hannah (not Barbie) teamed up to bring the judges a Chocolate Peppermint Shake that replaced dairy milk with almond milk.

Jillian Michaels has been chosen to promote vegan So Delicious Coconut Milk Beverage produced by Turtle Mountain, the maker of So Delicious Dairy-Free products. Michaels will be featured in a campaign, “Change Your Milk. Change Your Life,” that will go live nationwide in January 2011.

The Biggest Loser coach discovered the beverage in 2009, and has been a loyal fan ever since.

“I loved it straight away,” Michaels says. “What’s not to love? It’s naturally energizing. And, the health benefits and the taste are outstanding. I put it in everything. My tea, my granola, in my smoothies, straight up — you name it.”
