Rise Against Singer Tim McIlrath Praises Australian Pumpkin Love

Rise Against singer Tim McIlrath says the band likes touring Australia because the Aussie’s love their pumpkin.

“We love Australia, because Australia loves pumpkin,” said Tim McIlrath, in a recent interview. “In Australia they put pumpkin in everything. And pumpkin is great.”

Sure, pumpkin is delicious, but Tim likes pumpkin for another reason: It produces less greenhouse gases than meat, so praising Australia for its pumpkin love is a way Tim and the band can get their vegetarian message across to fans.

Besides passing out PETA pamphlets at concerts, the all vegetarian band never misses a chance to pipe for their cause while touring.

“Eating meat is one of the most environmentally damaging things you can do,” McIlrath said.

Aussie pumpkin love forever!

Lauren Bush Debuts New Eco-Friendly Fashion Line, Lauren Pierce

Written by Vegetarian Star on Saturday, March 28th, 2009 in Environment-Eco-Green, Fashion.

The Cinema Society Hosts A Screening Of The Great Buck Howard - Inside

Lauren Bush, who some have called the “green sheep” of the Bush monarchy, recently debuted her eco-friendly fashion line, Lauren Pierce.

The Lauren Pierce line offers dresses, blouses, and shorts made from hemp silk and bamboo, crafted by women in the Democratic Republic of the Congo in Africa.

It was Lauren’s decision to name the line after her middle name, which also happens to be her grandmother’s maiden name and her younger brother’s name.

She insists it only makes her more “incognito,” and in no way meant to downplay her association with the Bush name.

Lauren, who admits she has an eco-sin of loving too many magazines, is the CEO, Creative Director and co-Founder of FEED Projects LLC. She designed FEED t-shirts and bags, whose profits help support the UN World Food Programme in feeding hungry children.

Kelly Clarkson Vows Never To Cook Turkey Again

Written by Vegetarian Star on Friday, March 27th, 2009 in Female Singers, Food & Drink, Not So Vegetarian.

Women`s World Awards - Show

We know not all vegetarians cook for their meat eating buddies, but some, like Kristen Bell do.

Last year Kelly Clarkson roasted bird with her family for Thanksgiving, even though she’s been vegetarian for more than year.  However, she found it so exhausting, she vowed never to do it again.

From her blog:

“so i’ve been in texas since ending the tour. i’ve been hanging with family during the holidays and i made my first turkey with my sister this year ….which is kind of hilarious seeing as how i haven’t eaten meat in over a year, but it was fun to make. and by fun, i mean our turkey was awesome and everything but i’ll never do it again. it was freakin’ exhausting!! i had to wake up at 5 in the morning, the night before we had to brine the dang thing, and oh my lord i’ll never do it again. my sister and i made the ENTIRE meal and i gotta be honest it gave me a whole new respect for housewives because it was just tiring!!”

Someone should whisper to Kelly that a Tofurky takes a lot less time to prepare. Just thaw, unwrap, do a little basting and bake for about an hour and a half. No brining and no wiping up the potential salmonella residue left behind.

And the housewives can rest and watch television all day, making the family think they’ve worked their butts off!

Celebrities Attend 7th ELLE Awards

There’s nothing better than a celebrity chef who snitches.

From former White House chef Walter Scheib giving the dirt on how Chelsea Clinton went vegan to Aaron Ash, the now owner of a raw vegan foods restaurant telling how he gave Mike D of the Beastie Boys what he wanted, we love hearing from those who have spent time in some of the most private areas of a star’s life-their diet.

Eric Ienco has cooked for celebs such as Madonna, Sting’s wife Trudie Styler, Christie Turlington, and ethical fashion designer Stella McCartney.

Apparently, Stella can’t get enough of this guy’s soup.

From Roundtownnews.co.uk:

“She’s a vegetarian, through and through. I think Stella likes plain and simple home-cooked foods. I think her mum must have raised her this way – Linda was a veggie too. Stella isn’t picky but she’s very enthusiastic about my soup! I like her; she’s a good soul.”

Bob Barker Book, Priceless Memories, Helps Spay, Neuter Pets

Bob Barker Returns To The Price Is Right

Bob Barker returned to the set of The Price Is Right recently to promote his new book, Priceless Memories, due out April 6th.

Proceeds from the book sales will go towards DJ&T Foundation, which he founded in 1994 to help foot the bill of spaying and neutering animals.

The longtime vegetarian is the owner of many animals himself, including two rabbits named “Mr. Rabbit,” and “Honey Bunny,” and always ended each Price Is Right show with his signature sign-off, “Help control the pet population, have your pets spayed or neutered.”

Barker proved he was both a host and a comedian as two prize showcases were, cough, cough, “heavily themed” with his book.

For example, one showcase featured a computer where you could order the book, trip to New York City to buy a bundle of the books from the publisher, and a truck to haul them all back in.

Hilarious!

Priceless Memories contains Bob’s experiences as a host on several shows including The Price is Right, Truth or Consequences, Miss USA, and Miss Universe.

Favorite contestants, celebrity encounters, as well as his personal life being raised through the Great Depression and the Dust Bowl are given pages.

Some sections also discuss his passion for animal rights and include real life examples of his work, such as having an anti-fur stance for the beauty pagents he hosted.

Michael Jackson Exotic Animal Tour Not A Thriller For Animal Rights

Written by Vegetarian Star on Thursday, March 26th, 2009 in Animal Issues, Male Singers.

**RESTRICTION APPLY**A huge crowd gathers to see Micheal Jackson after he watched the West End hit Oliver musical in London

Update: PETA received word that Michael Jackson DOES NOT plan to use live animals on tour.

You’d think after the butt whipping Britney Spears took for using live animals in her “Circus” video, celebrities would learn.

Michael Jackson may be a healthy vegetarian, but his decisions on animals aren’t so healthy for the four-legged creatures.

After rumors surfaced that he’ll be featuring live, exotic animals on stage for his comeback tour, animal rights activists began growling like tigers.

A source told the UK Daily Mirror:

“He hopes to make it the most spectacular gig ever. For the jungle section, he wants to ride out on an African elephant with panthers led on gold chains. Parrots and other birds will fly behind him. If it goes to plan it will look incredible.”

But PETA doesn’t think the show will be a Thriller.

In a statement issued to WENN, the group responded:

“These exotic animals belong in Africa, not the O2 Arena among screaming fans, bright lights and stage explosions. These wild animals are deprived of everything that is natural and important to them when they are forced to perform under stressful conditions. Michael needs to learn to leave exotic animals alone.”

Elephants, panthers, and parrots, oh my. If the rumors are true about the animals on tour, Michael better be waving “bye” to those plans or face much more harsh criticism soon.
