A number of Toyota Prius’ have been recalled due to some braking issues.

Yikes!

Has the golden car used by greenies in Hollywood like vegetarian Ed Begley Jr. and wife Rachelle Carson lost its touch?

In the video below, Ed explains the car he bought years ago is still going strong.

“We’ve had it now 177,000 miles with no problem,” he said.

Rachelle is giving up her 2010 Prius after experiencing problems, but insists she feels safe with other vehicles.

“I do feel safe in a Toyota. I just hope they get it together,” she said.

Move over Michelle Obama!

The First Lady of the White House isn’t the only woman to show off her home grown greens.

Jennifer Taylor, the actress who is Charlie Sheen‘s love interest on Two and a Half Men, has revealed to EcoStiletto she tries to be greener by tending to an organic garden, which makes it so much easier to eat better at home.

“It takes a conscious effort because it’s so much easier to cook crap that’s nowhere near green. It takes a lot of effort. I’m a big planner and list maker. I live out of my little agenda. I prepare for dinners a couple of days in advance because I know that I can’t just grab something off of the shelf as I’m going home.”

“I think it’s important to eat clean and simply and just do something. Gardening, recycling, carrying reusable water bottles—every little thing helps. If everybody did one little thing it would really help.”

Need some advice for growing your own?

Jennifer gives the following tips:

  1. Wear gloves. I always forget.
  2. Use your coffee grinds and pickle juice as fertilizer. Gardenias love pickle juice!
  3. Soapy water in a spray bottle is a great natural pesticide for your fruits and vegetables.
  4. Don’t be afraid to prune a lot. The plant will grow back bigger and stronger.
  5. Get the kids involved. We let Jake pick his own seed packets, and he’s responsible for watering his plants. He recently planted a sunflower and was amazed at how big it grew!

The 52nd Annual GRAMMY Awards - Press Room

Banned In Hollywood has compiled its list of 6 celebrities who pose to save the environment.

Pose could mean they’re serious about their recycling and eating less meat or that they’re just looking for a Sigg ad to complete their resume.

But when it comes to vegetarian celebrities like Paul McCartney and singer Pink, you know they’re serious about promoting their beliefs.

Paul McCartney launched his meat-free Monday campaign in hopes of having everyone skip beef, pork and poultry for just one day a week.

And singer Pink puts compassion behind her argument against the environmentally unfriendly fur industry, never hesitating to trash another celebrity for being cruel enough to purchase animal hide.

Alicia Silverstone is one of those activists who will tell you to put your fork where your mouth is!

Seen here in this clip, Alicia expresses her disbelief that an event meant to raise environmental awareness would serve mostly non vegetarian food.

“So I go to these events to save the rain forest and they’re serving beef… And now when I’m invited to these events, I say I will not come unless you make your menu support your argument.”

Does Alicia even bother to attend the Environmental Media Awards?

Ed Begley Jr. “Living With Ed” Reveals Leather Seat Prius

Written by Vegetarian Star on Tuesday, December 29th, 2009 in Actors, Environment-Eco-Green, Transportation.

2009 Environmental Media Awards

Ed Begley Jr. knows being vegetarian is a great complement to his other environmentally friendly behaviors like having solar panels in his home and getting from point A to B on a bicycle.

But is Ed driving an eco-friendly car with animal un-friendly seats?

From priuschat.com:

“Watching a recent episode of Living With Ed, it looks like Ed is now driving (or more likely Rachelle’s car) a level IV winter gray metallic 2010 Prius. I was a little surprised that he chose leather seats, being the vegan that he is.”

Granted, not everyone environmentalist is vegetarian, but with the environmentally unfriendly chemicals going into the tanning process to make leather not biodegradable, you’d think most hybrid worshippers would demand hideless vehicles.

Paul McCartney insisted his luxury Lexus be built with cloth seats versus leather.

Toyota 2010 Priuses come with either leather or  non-leather seating.

Which one is Ed cruising around town in?

Al Gore–Green Man Of The Decade

UN Climate Change Summit Enters Final Week

If you’re wondering what the top veggie stories of 2009 will be, have patience!

The big newsbreaker may come on December 31.

In the meantime, take a look at the top green stories of the decade provide by grist.org, which practically names Al Gore as a green savior of the decade.

“After a short, bearded, self-imposed exile, he made a simple decision: if climate change is the greatest danger to humanity, something he’d been discouraged from saying for most of his electoral career, then he would say so. He set about spreading the word in characteristic nerdy, earnest fashion, with a slide show, a patient explanation, and four gazillion frequent flier miles.”

What’s even greater than his Inconvenient Truths or big green balls, however, is the fact that good ol’ Al is going in the veg direction.

After being chided for not bringing up the effects of meat on the environment, Gore finally said it straight.

“It’s absolutely correct that the growing meat intensity of diets around the world is one of the issues connected to this global crisis – not only because of the CO2 involved, but also because of the water consumed in the process,” Gore told ABC television.

“I’m not a vegetarian, but I have cut back sharply on the meat that I eat,” he added.

Crossing the fingers Gore goes all the way in 2010!
