Written by Vegetarian Star on Wednesday, May 6th, 2009 in Actresses.

Natural Resources Defense Councils 20th Anniversary CelebrationAccess Hollywood has created a slideshow of Celebrity Vegetarians: They Say No To Meat.

Actress and former fashion model Amy Smart made the cut. Smart has worked with the Humane Society, the environmental advocacy group Heal The Bay, and was named one of Organic Style magazine’s “Woman with Organic Style” of 2004.

We’ll warn you by saying not every celeb in the slideshow may be 100% meatless. The same Internet sources that said Clint Eastwood was a vegan (cough, cough rhymes with Tickimedia, say Amy is a former vegetarian. And Access Hollywood still has Anne Hathaway on its list, even though she admitted to post Oscar burgers.

But tried and true stars you could bet your entire paycheck on in a recession like Tobey Maguire, Natalie Portman, and Paul McCartney are included as well.

Jennie Garth, Peter Facinelli Kids Like Tofu

Written by Vegetarian Star on Monday, March 2nd, 2009 in Actresses, Children, Couples, Food & Drink.

11th Annual Costume Designers Guild Awards

Jennie Garth has an urban legend surrounding her much like Clint Eastwood did on his veganess.

The former “Beverly Hills 90210” actress and Dancing With the Stars contestant was recently interviewed by Energy Times, where she acknowledged the rumor, said she “hated eating animals,” but wasn’t a vegetarian.

“No, I’m not a true vegetarian,” she said. “I eat chicken and occasionally fish. I hate eating animals, but I have to get some protein in and the best way for me to do that would be to eat chicken or fish, although my kids eat tofu.”

“I don’t eat red meat.”

Hmm…You’d think that while she was sauteing tofu for the little ones, it’d be easy to fix herself a portion as well.

Heart disease runs rampant in the actress’ family and Jennie herself suffers from a leaky heart valve. While shunning red meat certainly helps her manage risk factors for heart troubles, there are numerous studies that show vegetarian and vegan diets prevent all sorts of diseases, including those that break the heart (physically).

Jennie is married to a “vegetarian vampire.” Her husband is Peter Facinelli, the guy who played Edward Cullen’s father, Dr. Carlisle Cullen, in the vampire movie Twilight

Wishing Jennie the best in managing her and her family’s health and hoping she has a tofu nugget or two to the replace the chicken ones she usually eats.

Paris Hilton’s Joke Vegetarian Birthday?

Written by Vegetarian Star on Wednesday, February 18th, 2009 in Actresses, Flexitarian.

William Rast - Front Row - Fall 09 MBFW

Paris Hilton is known for many things, but being vegetarian is not one of them.

However, USA Today printed an article recently wishing her a Happy Birthday, and the article said Paris was a vegetarian.

We guess along with pescetarian and flexitarian, there are now beef and pork slider vegetarians, as that’s what she was seen eating not along ago.

Either vegetarians are becoming more like some churches, changing the rules faster than lightening in order to attract and retain more members or someone picked up some incorrect information.

We suspiciously think there was some Clint Eastwood vegan urban legendness to this mistake.

The website, ParisHiltonZone.com, claims that Paris became vegetarian after watching a video on animal cruelty provided to her by Heather Mills.

“From that point I’ve never worn fur and I never will.”I also haven’t eaten any meat since. I just survive on pasta and stuff like that. I was grossed out. It was disgusting.”

Maybe Paris was a veg at one time, however short lived. Or maybe she’s a flexitarian?

Giving credit where it’s due, mom Kathy Hilton did buy Paris a faux fur for Christmas instead of the real thing, so maybe Paris at least isn’t down with wearing something that came from one of her chihuahua Tinkerbell’s cousins.

“You find all kinds of things written about you that you don’t have the foggiest notion where they came from. I’m not a vegetarian. I love sushi and stuff like that. I do have to watch my fat intake, because I’m 78 years old.”
—Actor Clint Eastwood, in an interview with Canoe, on the rumors circulating the Internet that he is a vegan and/or vegetarian. We recently learned he practically fainted after learning of the rumor that he was a vegan. Apparently, he wants to make sure you know he’s no darn vegetarian either.

Well, excuse us, sushi man!

Pauly Shore Not Vegetarian, But Whole Ribs Too Hardcore

The Cinema Society Hosts Screening Of

What’s with the wiki and other sites lately? Yes, we know they’re not law, but really, there’s been some wacky incorrect facts floating around.

First, we learned that Clint Eastwood is not only NOT a vegan, but had to have the definition of one explained to him, which resulted in a look of horror resembling a pet that knows it’s going to be spayed or neutered.

Now, we’re learning that Pauly Shore, actor best known for hosting MTV shows, is one of the falsely accused as well.

An excerpt from a recent interview with Memphis Flyer:

I heard you were a vegetarian. Is that true?

No. I love steak once in a while, just very rarely. I need my protein. I’ve got to stock up, you know.

So are you going to munch on some Memphis barbecue while you’re here?

Oh, I don’t know. I’m kind of sketchy on barbecue right now. Like, the whole ribs and shit, it’s kind of hardcore.

Hmmm. Since Pauly says he eats steak every once in awhile, but “whole ribs and shit” is hardcore, maybe he’s a flexitarian?

Update Wikipedia, update everyone. And keep your computers on standby ’cause you’ll probably be updating again soon.

Clint Eastwood Has Vegan WTF Moment

Written by Vegetarian Star on Saturday, December 13th, 2008 in Actors, Not So Vegetarian.

The 2008 Kennedy Center Honors in Washington DC

Clint Eastwood has appeared on one of PETA’s Go Veg brochures with the quote attributed to him, “I try to stick to a vegan diet heavy on fruit, vegetables, tofu, and other soy products.”

Um…no, not really. In a recent interview with the New York Times, he stated he is not and has never been a vegan and looked rather disturbed when he was told what a vegan was, as if being a vegan was equivalent to castration.

“I never look at the Internet for just that reason,” he said.

Understandable. If you’re a celebrity it may be painful to read some of the stuff written about you. Just imagine what would have happened if Clint read his was a raw foodist!

The rumor that Eastwood is a vegan has shown up in a lot of places, including Wikipedia and other vegetarian and vegan sites.

But don’t let this tarnish your visions that there aren’t tons of vegan celebs out there, including the macho manly ones like Eastwood.

Ultimate fighter Mac Danzig can still kick carnivore butt. And since his girlfriend does a lot of cooking for him, it’s safe to say he’s far from being castrated.
