SocialVibe.com And HollyRod 4 Kids Kick-Off Event - Arrivals

So we’re tracking John Salley‘s dietary habits on I’m a Celebrity, Get Me Out of Here, to see how well he sticks to his vegan regime in the jungle.

An early episode had John and Heidi Pratt duking it out in an eating contest that involved a rat’s tail. No points for staying vegan that week, John.

However, on last night’s episode, John was set to compete in yet another contest, jungle worm eating, but quit.

Did the bad press get to him? Or did he just decide it wasn’t worth giving up his principles to be able to smoke Sanjaya?

John lost the lovely privilege of getting to eat leaf cutter ants, bull’s testicle, and cow tongue in the next rounds.

In case you care, Heidi and Spencer quit the show again

Shampoo Commercial Made Geneva Cruz Go Veg

Written by Vegetarian Star on Monday, June 8th, 2009 in Actresses, Female Singers.

Geneva Cruz is Philippine’s Sexiest Vegetarian. PETA says so.

Of course, don’t take PETA’s word for it. Maxim agrees too, as this lady graced the cover not long ago.

What makes Geneva so beautiful inside and out is her love for animals. A vegetarian since 15 who’s now a vegan, Geneva made the switch after filming a shampoo commercial where she interacted with animals.

“We were at a place in Palawan where the animals could roam free! Free! And all I had to so was to feed one of them and say ‘Natural!’ We’d repeat that for each take,” Geneva said.

“I think you help save a lot of lives if you are a vegetarian. For me, a vegan diet is not about dieting, it’s about loving all living things,” she added.

Bob Barker takes a walk in New York City

Bob Barker is generally known in the animal rights movement as the spay and neuter guy, but he’s done much more for non-human creatures, and shows no signs of stopping.

The vegetarian has recently written to Principal Chief Hicks of  the Eastern Band of the Cherokee Nation in Cherokee, North Carolina, urging for an end to the tourist attraction there of bears being confined in caged pits.

“Cherokee has so much to offer, such as its beautiful mountains, museums, cultural and historical exhibits, Native American shops, friendly residents, and casino. The caged bears may have been a big attraction at one time but are now seen as an embarrassment to the community and should be permanently closed down.”

Barker isn’t the first to express dismay at the exhibit, as PETA says people have contacted them after viewing it with some of the following statements:

• “I was so upset with how sad these animals
looked.” —Visitor from Louisiana
• “This attraction is truly a disgrace to the town of
Cherokee and its tourist offerings.” —Visitor from
Illinois
• “[W]hat a sad life they live, with no access to
grass, dirt, trees, woods, etc.” —Visitor from
North Carolina

Barker himself is of Native American descent and spent many days of his youth at the Rosebud Indian Reservation in South Dakota.

Constance Marie Dines On Salad Every Night

Written by Vegetarian Star on Tuesday, June 2nd, 2009 in Actresses, Food & Drink, Recipes.

Genesis Awards 2009

Constance Marie (Angie Lopez on George Lopez) gave birth to baby Luna Marie 4 months ago and she’s looking as good as ever.

She revealed some of her post baby workout secrets to Celebrity Baby Blog along with the fact that she maintains a vegetarian diet, eating salads every evening.

The first reaction to this is yuck! Who wants to munch on overpriced arugula every night? Certainly not Barack Obama!

But vegetarian salads don’t have to be boring and remind you of pet grass.

Chickpeas, beans, and avocado make for lovely toss ins. Mock egg, tuna, or chicken salad imitate picnic favorites or hearty lunch bowls at work or home.

So it’s time to get our salad on! The Veggie Table has a list of every salad a vegetarian could combine with plant proteins and the produce section.

Give it up for deviled tofu, swiss chard with sesame seeds, and winter white bean to name a few.

Check out theveggietable.com for the rest.

Contestants from the new NBC show Im a celebrity get me out of here give an interview about the upcoming show

Basketball legend John Salley is set to appear on the NBC reality TV show I’m a Celebrity, Get Me Out of Here. I’m a Celebrity will feature 10 celebrities trying to survive in the Costa Rican jungle.

Salley is vegan, but doesn’t think that will hurt his chances in the competition. Let’s just hope there aren’t any eating contests involving kangaroo penis like the one that screwed over Timmy Mallet.

From a recent interview with nba.fanhouse.com:

You are also a devout vegan. Do you think that will be a strike against you right off the bat?
No, it’s a strike for me, because I’m really not hungry for fake food – I’m only hungry for real food (laughs). So, I’m not going to miss any of the processed things. I’ve mostly cleared my body of the desire for sugar and plastic food. Plus, I’m a vegan because every day I make sure my body stays as clean as I can possibly get it so I can have a better life. If I have to eat certain things during tasks to get to the ultimate goal, it’s not going to take away from the fact that I’m a vegan. I mean, I’ve prepared my body; so in case anything bad does come to it, I can fight it off.

Salley earned the nickname “Spider Salley” because he is horrified by spiders. His biggest fear is a tarantula, but as long as they’re not on the menu for I’m a Celebrity, he’s cool with it.

“So, I said, ‘You know what? I know it’s in the jungle. As long as I don’t have to eat a live one, I’m cool.'”

Mayim Bialik’s What Not To Wear Makeover Changes Her Leather Shoe Policy

Written by Vegetarian Star on Friday, May 29th, 2009 in Actresses, Fashion.

Opening Of CavaliaMayim Bialik had the privilege of receiving a makeover compliments of the team at What Not To Wear.

Although Mayim’s said before she’d never call herself completely vegan, she does try to avoid leather. Mayim used to take it a bit further and avoid products that even looked like leather.

From celebrity-babies.com:

“They made me throw out my Doc Martens, but when we went to the vegan shoe store in Manhattan they had vegan Doc Martens, so I may have to indulge! My policy used to be that I didn’t like to wear shoes that looked like leather, even if they weren’t, but I let that go, because my feeling is if they aren’t leather, then it’s OK for them to look leather. I gave them so many limitations with my rules on bold colors, pants, frills, so I figured I’d wear vegan shoes that look like leather.”

Some people refuse to wear fake fur for the same reason. What’s your take on the situation? Should vegetarians and vegans avoid wearing lookalikes because they give the wrong impression?

PETA To Amitabh Bachchan: Go Veg To Go Green At IIFA Event!

Written by Vegetarian Star on Wednesday, May 27th, 2009 in Actors, Bollywood, Environment-Eco-Green.

Chandni Chowk To China UK Premiere In London

Amitabh Bachchan is a longtime vegetarian and PETA wants him to encourage others to do so by serving only vegetarian food at an India International Film Academy (IIFA) event in Macau, China next month.

After all, the theme for the event is “Go-Green,” and what environmentalist doesn’t know by now that meat isn’t environmentally friendly.

PETA India chief functionary Anuradha Sawhney sent a letter to Bachchan containing the following statement:

“We were thrilled to hear that this year’s IIFA Awards are going to have a ‘Go Green’ theme, and we commend you for helping to once again draw attention to the global climate crisis. On behalf of PETA India and all our members and supporters, we respectfully ask you to serve only green (vegetarian) food at the event.”

“By doing so, you will send a strong message that people can save the planet simply by changing their dietary habits.”

Do you know any environmentalists who really haven’t “gone green all the way” yet? Are they missing the connection between wasted land and energy in raising farm animals for human food consumption (not to mention other animal consumption)?

Get in the game and drop them a little note like the one sent to Bachchan! Some one’s gotta remind them that meat’s not green!
