If there is a Del Taco in your area, Shane Told of Silverstein can point you in the right direction for what to order from the menu.

Shane recently Tweeted that the Veggie Works Burrito works quite nicely for a vegetarian–but not a vegan.

Del Taco’s menu states Veggie Works is filled with, “slow cooked beans, plus rice, guacamole, zesty red sauce, fresh tomatoes, lettuce, sour cream and grated cheddar cheese.”

Del Taco also states it’s “so yummy you’ll want to marry it.”

True, the U.S. has made a lot of progress with human rights, but unfortunately, a union between man or woman and vegetarian burrito has yet to be made legitimate.

Going veg for one day a week sure is tasty AND intelligent.

Kathy Freston has already blogged all the fascinating statistics on the effects of eating less meat.

Like the fact that if everyone did a Meat Free Monday (or Friday, Saturday or Sunday), the United States would save 1.5 billion pounds of crops normally fed to livestock.

That’s enough to feed the state of New Mexico for over a year!

Carrie Underwood Mike Fisher Engaged (Video)

Written by Vegetarian Star on Tuesday, December 22nd, 2009 in Female Singers, Videos.

One of country music’s favorite sweethearts, Carrie Underwood, is engaged!

Carrie and the lucky guy, Ottawa Senators hockey player Mike Fisher, haven’t set a date yet.

“My family generally supports everything I do,” Carrie says, in the AP video above on her parents thoughts about Fisher.

That means her parents also supported her going vegetarian, even though they are cattle ranchers.

And Carrie gave them respect back.

Carrie said of her parents careers, “I respect what they do very much. That’s what put clothes on my back and paid for college. But cows were like my dogs. I named them, I played with them, I bottle-fed them. When I realized why we had cows, I couldn’t think of anyone eating my friends. It scared me, and I quit eating meat.”

Will the Fisher-Underwood home be a shared diet one, or will Carrie teach Fisher to tackle veggie meals, much like fellow ice master Georges Laraque?

VegNews has compiled their list of top veg stories of the decade and some incredible gains have been made.

Remember when you found out McDonald’s had beef oil in its french fries?

Yeah, they paid for that.

What’s even more exciting is that one of television’s most popular and hilarious hosts, Ellen DeGeneres, along with her partner Portia de Rossi went vegan.

From VegNews:

“After hinting at her new cruelty-free lifestyle at a Prop. 2 fundraiser, comedienne and talk show host Ellen DeGeneres officially announced her commitment to veganism at the 2009 Genesis Awards. In the months to follow, DeGeneres hasn’t wasted any time sharing her cruelty-free lifestyle with viewers—around 3 million of them—with vegan guest chefs, factory farming coverage, a veg lunchtime blog, and an entire section of her website dedicated to living the veg life.”

Let’s not forget that sexy Wayne Pacelle was also named CEO of the Humane Society. His efforts to protect animals and his good looks won him a spot on the Most Eligible Bachelor of D.C. list.

Kathy Freston Celebrates Her New Book 'Quantum Wellness'

If you’re a vegetarian and animal activist, you’ve come a long way, and author Kathy Freston wants everyone to know!

With measures like Prop 2 passed in California to restaurants offering more than the salad bar and cheese sandwiches, you know the days of being offered chicken after saying you’re vegetarian will soon end.

And when big time names like Martha Stewart and Alicia Silverstone hit the news with their thoughts and opinions, people turn around and listen.

From Kathy’s article at the Huffington Post on several vegetarian authors who spent weeks on the New York Times Bestseller list:

“For some weeks now, Chef Tal Ronnen’s Conscious Cook and actress Alicia Silverstone’s Kind Diet have joined Foer and former model agent Rory Freedman (whose book convinced home run slugger Prince Fielder to adopt a vegan diet) on the list with books that make the case for vegetarian eating. You may recall Ronnen from his appearances on Oprah, which caused Oprah to exclaim, “Wow, wow, wow! I never imagined meatless meals could be so satisfying.”

And who would have thought the Domestic Diva would feature a segment on vegetarian food for Thanksgiving?

Obama discussing factory farming and Al Gore finally admitting environmentalists need to eat tofu while driving their Priuses are just a few of the advancements Freston discusses at huffingtonpost.com.
