Operation Smile Presents The 2009 Smile Event

John Salley is a vegan, but doesn’t think that will hurt his chances in the reality TV show I’m a Celebrity, Get Me Out of Here competition. In fact, the raw jungle is exactly what he needs to survive on daily.

“Yeah, I’m a Vegan and part of what I do is promote lifestyles, healthy lifestyles and when they ask me about obesity in the black and Latino world with these young kids, so I would teach about food and how food can help you and nourish you and the best thing about this is they’re going to put me in a jungle around a lot of green foliage and I can show you what the raw diet will do for your body. I’m going in with all green products if they’ll let me where it. I’ll just show you that you can be part of the environment.”

Salley does give a whole new meaning to the term “raw vegan” but hey, more power to him with his all you can eat green foliage buffet.  As long as he’s not feasting on any tarantulas, we know he’ll stay strong and true to his word.

John Robbins Says Non Vegetarians Should Find Meat Disgusting

Written by Vegetarian Star on Saturday, May 30th, 2009 in Authors, Food & Drink, Videos.

Ah, John Robbins is such a hero.

The man gave up a zillion of a fortune as heir to the Baskin Robbins ice cream company to become an author and speak out against animal product industries that include 31 flavors of dairy.

In Processed People: The Documentary, Robbins states that even non-vegetarians would be turned off by the meat industry if they saw what went on behind closed doors.

“And the degree of cruelty that’s involved in modern meat production is so severe. You don’t have to a vegetarian, you don’t have to be an animal rights activist to find it deplorable – to find it appalling — if you actually see what it is, how far it’s gone, how grotesque. ”

Watch the clip to hear John talk about the horrors of the meat industry.

Alison Lohman’s Drag Me To Hell Has Vegetarian Sacrificing Animals. Okaaay.

Written by Vegetarian Star on Saturday, May 30th, 2009 in Actresses.

Premiere Of Universal Pictures Drag Me To Hell - Arrivals

Alison Lohman stars in Drag Me To Hell, a horror movie about a really, really bad business decision.

Lohman plays a loan officer named Christine aspiring to be branch manager. She tries to impress the boss with her ability to make tough decision by, against her warm hearted instincts, turning down a loan extension to an old, gypsy woman.

Long story short, gypsy woman gets ticked off, follows Lohman to her car, attacks her, and puts a curse on her forever that ultimately results in Lohman falling onto train tracks before demons grab her and pull her into the pits of hell.

Before her demise, Lohman tries to undue her curse and save herself from damnation by sacrificing her pet kitten. Uncool. Very, uncool.

She again does something against her convictions, replying, “But I’m a vegetarian,” when told the evil spirits are kitty soul hungry.

What have we learned from this people?

1. Be nice to others during hard times and a recession. They just might curse you and your sky high interest rate.

2. Don’t forgo your vegetarian convictions because you think it will save your soul. Because you’ll be damned anyway. And in hell there are irate kitties, waiting to take their aggression out on you after putting up with years of the dog and toddler dressing them up in lingerie.

Note: Alison Lohman is a vegetarian and environmentalist in real life who would never sacrifice a cat in exchange for her soul.

Elizabeth appeared on Bravo’s The Fashion Show this week and the challenge to the contestants was to design a print for her shoe collection.

These lovely boots are for sale online for a limited time. And when they say limited, they mean, like June 12 so hurry and order already! Net proceeds will beneift the non profit animal advocate group Farm Sanctuary.

Apparently, the contestants only had 90 minutes to complete the design. Pretty darn cute for a quickie, Johnny.

Mayim Bialik’s What Not To Wear Makeover Changes Her Leather Shoe Policy

Written by Vegetarian Star on Friday, May 29th, 2009 in Actresses, Fashion.

Opening Of CavaliaMayim Bialik had the privilege of receiving a makeover compliments of the team at What Not To Wear.

Although Mayim’s said before she’d never call herself completely vegan, she does try to avoid leather. Mayim used to take it a bit further and avoid products that even looked like leather.

From celebrity-babies.com:

“They made me throw out my Doc Martens, but when we went to the vegan shoe store in Manhattan they had vegan Doc Martens, so I may have to indulge! My policy used to be that I didn’t like to wear shoes that looked like leather, even if they weren’t, but I let that go, because my feeling is if they aren’t leather, then it’s OK for them to look leather. I gave them so many limitations with my rules on bold colors, pants, frills, so I figured I’d wear vegan shoes that look like leather.”

Some people refuse to wear fake fur for the same reason. What’s your take on the situation? Should vegetarians and vegans avoid wearing lookalikes because they give the wrong impression?

PETA To Amitabh Bachchan: Go Veg To Go Green At IIFA Event!

Written by Vegetarian Star on Wednesday, May 27th, 2009 in Actors, Bollywood, Environment-Eco-Green.

Chandni Chowk To China UK Premiere In London

Amitabh Bachchan is a longtime vegetarian and PETA wants him to encourage others to do so by serving only vegetarian food at an India International Film Academy (IIFA) event in Macau, China next month.

After all, the theme for the event is “Go-Green,” and what environmentalist doesn’t know by now that meat isn’t environmentally friendly.

PETA India chief functionary Anuradha Sawhney sent a letter to Bachchan containing the following statement:

“We were thrilled to hear that this year’s IIFA Awards are going to have a ‘Go Green’ theme, and we commend you for helping to once again draw attention to the global climate crisis. On behalf of PETA India and all our members and supporters, we respectfully ask you to serve only green (vegetarian) food at the event.”

“By doing so, you will send a strong message that people can save the planet simply by changing their dietary habits.”

Do you know any environmentalists who really haven’t “gone green all the way” yet? Are they missing the connection between wasted land and energy in raising farm animals for human food consumption (not to mention other animal consumption)?

Get in the game and drop them a little note like the one sent to Bachchan! Some one’s gotta remind them that meat’s not green!
