A new program that will give money to schools to help kids plant trees in their communities, One Kid, One Tree, One World, is being endorsed by several green celebrities, including co-author of the best-selling Skinny Bitch vegan diet books, Rory Freedman.

PATH Inc. (Protecting People, Animals and their Habitats) is launching the program this Earth Day in April and will annually provide resources for schools to plant trees, as well as educational materials for the classroom that teach the importance of habitat protection and the consequences of deforestation.

Donations are now being accepted for the cause and at $2 per tree, anyone can help a child plant 1, 5, 10, 25, 50 or even more trees.

How food gets from the farm to your plate is becoming an increasingly popular topic, given the fact most conscious eaters want to know what they eat was grown under environmentally friendly conditions for the planet and farm workers and had minimum impact, if any, on animals.

The farm is also where many food education programs take children as part of an initiative to get them to eat better once they’ve become acquainted with how produce is grown and harvested.

Skinny Bitch author Rory Freedman and Jenny and Heather Goldberg of Spork Foods, a company that offers organic, vegan cooking classes in the LA area, visited a farm to learn the ins and outs of produce growing.

In between chit chatting with the “meat-eating farmer,” Freedman discusses vegan issues, such as cruelty to male chicks in the egg industry and what motivated her to give up animal products as well as environmental changes that have affected the nutrition and safety of our food.

Rory Freedman Former Junk Food “Skinny Bitch”

Written by Vegetarian Star on Wednesday, July 14th, 2010 in Authors, Food & Drink, Videos.

Sure, she may be the queen of dispensing advice on eating right on a vegan diet, but Skinny Bitch author Rory Freedman used to be a junk food lover, as she reveals in this latest video during an interview with PETA.

“I’m the girl who used to eat fast food every single day of my life,” Freedman says.

Veganism should be about health, but that doesn’t mean it always needs to be the brown rice and kale Freedman is getting cozy with in the camera. Veggier versions of desserts and vegetarian fast food restaurants are popping up around the globe.

Here’s what others have to say:

Rory Freedman, co-author of Skinny Bitch:
“Meat is for Pussies will completely transform your mind, body, and life. It’ll also score you major ass with hot vegan chicks.”

Moby:
“I’m really glad that John Joseph is finally showing that vegans are some of the strongest, healthiest, and toughest people on the planet. I mean, everyone wants to be thin and healthy and live long lives, but people still eat meat? That’s insane.”

The Art of Compassion PCRM 25th Anniversary Gala in West Hollywood

Rory Freedman, co-author of the Skinny Bitch book series, spent her Earth Day hiking with her dog and friends and enjoying a vegan meal from the Veggie Grill restaurant in West Hollywood.

“True environmentalists are vegans,” she told MNN.

Freedman has been a vegetarian for 16 years and a vegan for the past five.

When a manure Lagoon burst at the Marks Dairy farm located in upstate New York several years ago, the result of 3 million gallons of liquid manure being forced into the waters killed several hundred thousand bass, pickerel, pike, trout and walleye fish as it depleted the water of Oxygen while depositing toxic ammonia.

The event also forced nearby towns to redirect the source of their water supply.

Meat’s not green and neither is dairy.

Try swapping the 2% for an almond milk instead and put soy cheese on that pizza next time!

Glee star Lea Michele has recorded a new PSA for PETA on the topic of fur.

Shot on the scene of a high school hallway, Michele says in the video, “Everyone wants to fit in and feel like they belong. But sometimes you have to take a stand and step away from the crowd….With so many fashionable, cruelty-free options available, there’s really no excuse for joining a club that wears someone else’s coat.”

Michele is also a vegetarian, thanks to reading Skinny Bitch by Rory Freedman and Kim Barnouin.

“I do not eat meat. And after reading that book it completely changed my mind about the dairy industry as well,” Michele reveals in a separate Q & A session that can be viewed here.

Premiere Of HBO's Magic & Bird: A Courtship Of Rivals - Arrivals

Rory Freedman and John Salley are headlining the Michigan VegFest, a taste fest and expo hosted by VegMichigan, folks who were no doubt proud of their governor’s latest initiative to officially invite residents to participate in Meat Out Day.

The event will take place from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m. Sunday, April 18 at Ferndale High School and will feature food from local restaurants, cooking and raw food demonstrations, prizes and more.

Former Piston and TV personality Salley is back by demand after his appearance last year drew a record breaking 2,000 fans, according to the Daily Tribune.

Combining Salley’s presence with Freedman, who will likely draw a crowd who follow her based on her best selling book, Skinny Bitch, let’s hope this year’s fest is the biggest!
