Todd Oldham

Todd Oldham has known for a long time that meat-free is always in fashion.

The designer who’s brought us affordable and chic designs gave New York Magazine a glimpse into what the better dressed folks like himself eat during a typical week for its food feature “GrubStreet.”

During the week he played chef for himself and a few guests, but he also took advantage of the dozens of places in the area that serve plant-based food, including those that do not cater entirely to vegetarians.

“Skin Trade” DVD On Fur Industry Available In September (Video)

Written by Vegetarian Star on Monday, September 6th, 2010 in Animal Issues, Fashion, Film & TV, Fur, Videos.

Skin Trade, a documentary on what goes on behind the scenes in the fur industry, is scheduled to be available on DVD September 14th, 2010.

Produced by Shannon Keith, animal rights attorney and founder of Animal Rescue, Media & Education (ARME), a nonprofit animal-advocacy group, Skin Trade is a definite must for activists looking for tools to educate others on what animals turned into fashion endure, but as Ecouterre points out, it shouldn’t necessarily be watched with a bowl of popcorn or your own pet in your lap as its graphic scenes are not for the faint of heart.

Todd Oldham Thrives As Cruelty-Free Designer

Written by Vegetarian Star on Friday, March 6th, 2009 in Fashion.

Amy Sedaris Hosts Todd Oldham's Book Signing At Barneys New York

Todd Oldham, vegetarian and cruelty-free designer, has become quite successful over the years, from offering his fashions to large chain stores like Target and La-Z-Boy to hosting Bravo’s Top Design to serving as creative director for Old Navy.

Through it all, he’s managed to stay true to his values. A vegetarian since the 80s, the 48-year old was recently asked by the Vegetarian Times:

How do you manage to thrive as a cruelty-free designer in an industry that’s anything but?:

“I wouldn’t have it any other way. I’ve lost opportunities because of my position, but I’ve always been able to feel comfortable [with what I’m doing], and that’s worth everything. [Today] there are vibrant people in the industry, like Stella McCartney and Marc Bouwer, who design beautiful things that do not harm animals.”

So true, Todd. So true.

And when Leona Lewis gets her collection going, we’ll have one more designer that’s cruelty-free, and hopefully (fingers crossed) affordable as well.

DBTV Valetine Special: TODD OLDHAM HEARTS YOU from The Discerning Brute on Vimeo.
Todd Oldham is on our Valentine’s Day love list for ethical fashion designers.  He’s vegetarian and doesn’t use any leather or other animal products in his designs. Plus, unlike some other ethical trend setters, he’s affordable.

Todd sat down for an interview with The Discerning Brute, and the two of them discussed all kinds of vegan goody secrets, like how to substitute real butter in bakery goods. Bonus points to whoever guesses what Marzipan is before The Brute answers!

The Discerning Brute is a vegan blogger who writes on everything an ethical, vegan, man (or even lady) needs to know from clothing choices to food.

Should Leona Lewis Be Chatting With Todd Oldham?

Written by Vegetarian Star on Monday, September 29th, 2008 in Fashion.

Todd Oldman Book Signing

All of you, who decorated your dorm room with Todd Oldham furnishings a few years ago, listen up! Did you know that the maker of ever so affordable fashion is vegan? Well, you should at least know the items you’re purchasing with his tag are.

Todd Oldham is a fashion designer that has used his brilliance to create clothing and furnishings without the use of leather or other animal products. He’s also vegan and an animal rights activist and supports other humane causes, such as housing programs for those living with HIV and Aids.

He was fired after 3 months of working in the alterations department at a Polo Ralph Lauren boutique in Dallas, but then decided he could do better and well…the rest is history.

Oldham currently oversees clothing design for Old Navy, a division of Gap.

We think pop star Leonis Lewis should be giving him a call for a few pointers as she is in the beginnings of starting her own cruelty free fashion line.

Gotta run now. Old Navy’s got a clearance sale that ends tonight!
