Bones 100th Episode Celebration

Marie Claire has compiled a few of Bones star Emily Deschanel‘s favorite eco friendly products.

If a fellow vegan wanted to copy Deschanel’s style without emulating that creepy, Single White Female role, it wouldn’t be hard because Marie Claire knows all!

What the Pluck?, a candle made by A Scent of Scandal, has got our attention without even sniffing it.

Made from 100% soy wax, A Scent of Scandal candles were created by Ari Solomon, who’s made contributions to the Huffington Post on animal issues.

There’s also EcoTools, the earth friendly make up kit and bag with Alicia Silverstone‘s name attached to them.

Vaute Couture vegan fashions from Leanne Hilgart, vegan desserts from Erin McKenna and vegan shoes from Elizabeth Olsen also make the cut.

BabyCakes Cookbook Now Has Frequently Asked Questions Website

Erin McKenna is busy cranking out another cookbook, but if you’re still navigating your way through her first one, BabyCakes: Vegan, Gluten Free and (Mostly) Sugar Free Recipes from New York’s Most Talked About Bakery, there is help available on her website.

If you’ve ever wondered if potato starch can replace potato flour, you’re in luck.

Over the months since publishing the book, she’s compiled a list of some of the most frequently asked questions about her recipes, and she’s created an FAQ list.

BTW, potato starch and flour are TOTALLY different and you have to use what the recipe calls for.

Here are a couple of other commonly asked questions.

Q: What if I can’t have gluten or bean flours? Is there a substitute?
A: You may substitute rice flour for the recipes that call for Garbanzo-Fava bean flour, but not for the recipes that call for Bob’s Red Mill All Purpose Gluten Free Baking Flour or Spelt Flour.

Q: What is Evaporated Cane Juice? Is it liquid or granular?
A: It’s granular and relatively easy to find. Try Florida Crystals. You may also use Rapadura.

Erin McKenna of BabyCakes has perfected the vegan donut.

NY Mag is reporting the eggless, dairyless rings come in several flavors, such as chocolate-glazed, coconut-lemon and cinnamon-sugar.

Sounds delicious!

“Everything has to be not just fine for vegans or gluten-free but, you know … worth it, worth eating and really delicious,” McKenna, the owner of the bakery frequented by many vegetarian celebrities, said.

Will BabyCakes new donuts be worth every penny to the last crumb?

Jason Schwartzman or Zooey Deschanel will have to hold a vegan eating contest and find out.

BabyCakes LA–A Sweeter New York Bakery

The LA offshoot of Erin McKenna‘s bakery for vegan, gluten-free and sugar free desserts, BabyCakes, has been open for a couple of weeks now.

If you had the opportunity to visit the New York bakery and are expecting the same delicious animal free yumminess, you’re in luck.

But be prepared for a few extras in terms of the store’s environment, according to McKenna’s blog.

“Although we wanted to recreate what we have in New York, we knew it was crucial to let this bakery be free to be itself. We wanted it to have it’s own life and personality so we just let it flow. This bakery’s got more room than New York–4 tables and chairs to rest your weary legs and a gasp-inducing vintage oil painting of two poodles with bouffants (thank you Bridget!). Of course we have Stumptown Coffee.”

Head over to the downtown LA bakery at 130 East 6th Street and rest your weary legs as you sink your teeth into a Red Velvet cupcake.

West coast vegans are jumping with joy now that one of the most popular and celebrity sought after bakeries has opened in Los Angeles.

BabyCakes LA opened its doors in California this past weekend.

BabyCakes LA is located in downtown Los Angeles at 130 East 6th Street (between S. Main Street and S. Los Angeles Street).

Offering vegan cookies, brownies, cupcakes, loaves and more, the bakery was founded in New York by Erin McKenna after she spent hours in her own kitchen formulating recipes for desserts her body could tolerate, given her numerous food sensitivities.

BabyCakes items are vegan, mostly organic and gluten-free.

Hmm…New York during the summer, sunny Cal during the winter.

It’s time to purchase an east coast/west coast time share.

Jason Schwartzman Never “Bored To Death” With BabyCakes NYC

Premiere Of "Fantastic Mr. Fox" - Arrivals

We’ve heard before the Bored To Death star Jason Schwartzman loves Erin McKenna‘s NYC bakery, Babycakes.

Tribecafilm.com recently spoke with Schwartzman who confirmed BabyCakes was still his baby, along with some other New York hot spots.

“Oh, my God! Well, Babycakes is heaven on earth, shall we say? I love the cupcakes and the food and the cookies and, in fact, Babycakes always sends me cookies when it’s the Super Bowl for my guests and stuff, but what I also love about Babycakes is their M.O., like the way Erin McKenna (who owns it) did it—she had a dream and made it come true. It’s really inspiring.”

“So besides Babycakes, my other favorite places are—you know the store Opening Ceremony? What I like about Opening Ceremony is, I don’t particularly look great in all those clothes, but it’s nice because it’s a place where it’s kind of going to like an art house movie theater, where you can just see lots of different movies and see what lots of people are up to and what they’re thinking… I mean, they have very wearable clothes, but they have extremes of all different kinds of things—things that are very forward and very beautiful and great designers that you wouldn’t see in other places. So what I like about it is just going through there and flipping through the clothes and saying, Wow, so this person had this idea to take this color, put it with that color, and stitch it like that…”

Film Forum is another place, and I like the place teany [a vegan restaurant and tea shop co-owned by Moby, currently closed because of a fire]…. I’d say Babycakes, Opening Ceremony, Other Music, and I like Southside Guitars and Rivington Guitars.”

Erin McKenna has scored a deal for her second cookbook, titled Babycakes Covers the Classics and Other Food Fantasies.

McKenna is the founder and owner of BabyCakes NYC, a popular bakery for celebrities and mere unknown everyday mortals which features sugar-free, gluten-free, vegan desserts.

McKenna’s second book will make you ooze with agave syrup as she plans to include donuts, pancakes, Girl Scout cookies and even mac and cheese.

McKenna’s first book, BabyCakes : Vegan, Gluten-Free, and (Mostly) Sugar-Free Recipes from New York’s Most Talked-About Bakery, was such a great hit, she’s not getting away with any free time soon if her editor has anything to do with it.

Says McKenna on her blog:

About 37 seconds after “Babycakes” the cookbook came out I was cradling it my arms like a newborn. Just then my editor, Aliza Fogelson, phoned and the conversation went something like this:

Aliza: Hey Erin! The book is doing great, congratulations!
Me: Thanks!
Aliza: How about writing another one?
Me: No
Aliza: Yes
Me: No
Aliza: Yes
Me: Ok

Babycakes Covers the Classic and Other Food Fantasies will be published by Clarkson Potter.
