Bones 100th Episode Celebration

Marie Claire has compiled a few of Bones star Emily Deschanel‘s favorite eco friendly products.

If a fellow vegan wanted to copy Deschanel’s style without emulating that creepy, Single White Female role, it wouldn’t be hard because Marie Claire knows all!

What the Pluck?, a candle made by A Scent of Scandal, has got our attention without even sniffing it.

Made from 100% soy wax, A Scent of Scandal candles were created by Ari Solomon, who’s made contributions to the Huffington Post on animal issues.

There’s also EcoTools, the earth friendly make up kit and bag with Alicia Silverstone‘s name attached to them.

Vaute Couture vegan fashions from Leanne Hilgart, vegan desserts from Erin McKenna and vegan shoes from Elizabeth Olsen also make the cut.

Emily Deschanel “Good” Interview On Vegetarian Issues

Written by Vegetarian Star on Thursday, April 29th, 2010 in Actresses, Food & Drink.

Bones 100 Episodes Celebration in West Hollywood

Emily Deschanel recently interviewed with Good.

The Bones actress has been a vegan since she was a teenager, and is involved with animal activism as well, her better known campaign being promoting the Great Ape Protection Act that would end using chimpanzees in medical laboratories and allow them to retire in sanctuaries.

Here are a few highlights from the interview.

Favorite vegan dessert:
I am obsessed with the peanut butter cups from Alica Silverstone’s new book called The Kind Diet. So tasty! I use raw almond butter.

On convincing people to go vegetarian/vegan:
There is a book called The China Study which discusses the largest nutritional study in history. They set out to determine that animal protein was healthy, but the results were the opposite. Sometimes people need to be grabbed by the health angle. I like to let facts speak for themselves.

On natural remedies versus medication:
If I get a headache the first thing I do is drink some water or coconut water. Hydration is a common cause for headaches. Then I check to see if I have been clenching my jaw. I look for the cause instead of covering the symptoms up with medication. Modern medicine has saved many people’s lives, but I do believe in doing research and looking for alternatives before taking something.

8TH ANNUAL TV LAND AWARDS

Conservative Ann Coulter used the recent announcement from Justice John Paul Stevens to retire from the Supreme Court to poke fun of progressive schools that include vegetarianism and/or animal rights in the curriculum.

Hey, some do, such as the one Emily Deschanel attended.

Using an instance where Stevens disagreed with giving vouchers to parents to send their children to private schools, Ann wrote:

“He said, because the program did not forbid parents from using the tuition payments at religious schools, the state was using “public funds to pay for the indoctrination of thousands of grammar school children in particular religious faiths.” That money should have been used to indoctrinate children in subjects such as animal rights, Gaia theory, anti-Americanism and fisting etiquette!”

Don’t know how many parents would appreciate the opportunity to transfer their children to another school, private or parochial, but we’re sure they’re are plenty of parents who want more money into the school lunch system so their children aren’t resigned to eat the pre-formed patty of several animals parts and greased up fries.

BTW, have you contacted your local representative to let them know you support H.R. 4870, which could potentially bring regular vegetarian meals in school districts nationwide?

Emily Deschanel was on The Ellen DeGeneres Show to celebrate Bones 100th episode, which will air tonight on Fox at 8/7C.

To celebrate the big centennial, the cast was served a half Styrofoam, half real cake, which the vegan for 17 years Deschanel had to pass on and opt for cupcakes instead.

“I watched a documentary called “Diet For A New America,” Deschanel said, when Ellen DeGeneres asked her what made her go vegan.

Attending a progressive school, the film, which is based on the book with the same title by John Robbins, was part of the curriculum.

Sounds like some taxpaying parents got their money’s worth in education!
