Cookie Monster "Sesame Street"

Sesame Street

Sesame Street celebrates its 40th anniversary on November 10 2009.

That’s a lot of cookies for Cookie Monster!

Luckily in recent years, the show has taken to advocating healthier living habits, including promoting better food choices.

For example, Cookie Monster had an epiphany that he could get pleasure in other things besides overeating sugary foods. In addition, Cookie changed his song from “C is for Cookie, that’s good enough for me” to “Cookies are a sometimes food.”

No, the ring’s not as catchy, but the political theme will keep the song in history books.

First lady Michelle Obama also took a stroll down Sesame Street, planting vegetables with Elmo and telling children to eat more fruits and vegetables.

And watch out Barack, for someone could steal the heart of his woman. Michelle and Big Bird have similar interests, as they both like seeds.

We’re proud of Big Bird, Cookie Monster and the rest of the Sesame Street neighborhood association for using their influence on children positively.

Now if they would only promote human rights and take Oscar The Grouch from his garbage can and into safe, affordable housing.

A 71 year old woman is seriously kicking Barack Obama‘s butt.

Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands has announced she’s giving up meat one day a week and has promised to no longer serve foie gras at Royal Banquets.

Go Queen Beatrix!

In addition, the Dutch government has announced plans to spend €6 million spend to help reduce meat consumption and fight global warming.

President of the United States, Barack Obama, has been asked to initiate a Meat Free Monday at the White House.

Pictured here, Marianne Thieme (Dutch Member of Parliament for the ‘Party for Animals’) wore a “Meat Free Mondays” hat to a costume ball held by Queen Beatrix as part of the annual “Prinsjesdag” celebrations.

Ahem…Obama, it’s now you’re turn.

Barack Obama “Kanye West Jackass” Statement Trumps PETA Fly

President Obama Addresses Ohio Auto Workers On Economy

You heard the horrible story of how Kanye West grabbed the mic from Taylor Swift‘s hand and totally stole the spotlight while she was giving her acceptance speech at the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards.

Everybody’s got their opinion, including president Barack Obama.

After calling Kanye a “jackass,” Obama realizes his statement is going to be all over Twitter in 24 hours, and he jokingly says this act will bring similar scrutiny like his fly swatting incident that PETA drew attention to.

Obama’s not the only one who thinks Kanye’s a jerk. His fur loving ways have gotten him in trouble with other people.

Listen to the clip below cause there’s nothing more hilarious than the pres calling someone a donkey.

2009 NATO Summit

Blue Hill restaurant in New York received a great deal of attention after a tipster told the press Barack Obama and wife Michelle had a dinner date there.

Now, Observer writer Rachel Cook is calling vegetables from Blue Hill the “new sex.”

This should really increase business.

“Mesmerised, I removed a carrot from its spike, and took a bite. “Vegetables,” I thought. “They’re the new sex.”

Blue Hill is somewhat an environmental eatery, with ingredients being sourced from local farmers, Barber being championed a locavore by the media.

But Blue Hill isn’t a vegetarian restaurant, by any means.

The menu will make you cover your eyes as selections containing pork, chicken, and the dreaded baby animal veal are included.

And Blue Hill chef Dan Barber has discussed how to make foie gras for his restaurant in the future.

To experiment, Barber had “free-range” geese and didn’t use gavage.

An expert he called upon, Eduardo Sousa, doesn’t believe in force feeding methods to fatten a goose’s liver, saying he believes in “ethical foie gras.”

Barber was less than satisfied, calling the geese livers “ping-pong sized.”

In his determination to succeed in getting foie gras on the plate, will Barber resort to crueler farming practices?

Ideally, Blue Hill would put more locally grown plant based dishes on its menu.

Perhaps find that sought after chef who can create faux foie gras.

Because at Blue Hill, vegetables may be the new sex, but they’re not having nearly as much of it as they could.

White House Farmer’s Market On! September 17- October 29

President And Mrs. Obama Observe Moment Of Silence For 9-11 Anniversary

Grab your reusable shopping bags and take the Metro headed towards 1600 N. Pennsylvania Ave. to visit the Farmer’s Market at the White House.

A permit was approved this week for the nonprofit Fresh Farm Markets to close Vermont Avenue Northwest between H and I Streets in order to clear the way for a Farmer’s Market near the President’s home.

The market opens next week on September 17 and will run until October 29.

It’s not certain whether the Obamas will make an appearance at the markets, but Sam Kass, an assistant chef at the White House has showed up at a community meeting recently to show support.

Last August, Barack Obama said he wanted to get a farmer’s market near the White House.

One initiative passed, many more to go.

Barack Obama Caught Eating Fruit. Gasp!

U.S. President Obama eats fruit at a market after town hall meeting in Virginia.

Take a good look, folks.

It may be a dozen burger joints before you see something like this again.

Barack “Burger Boy” Obama was photographed eating a nectarine at Kroger’s after a town hall meeting in Virginia.

Is he taking Whole Foods CEO John Mackey’s advice and setting an example for health care?

After all the cow meat rendezvous ( Ray Hell’s, Five Guys, steak at his White House pad), it’s refreshing to see Mr. President making a great example by munching on something healthy.

From his facial expression, it almost looks as if he’s on some top secret mission to eat the apricot, though.

Are there Secret Service men hiding underneath the plums?

Is he thinking of switching the signs to get a better deal on those $2.99 limes?

No, stop it… Don’t make fun of the pres. Only reward him for the good behavior!

Whole Foods CEO Offers Advice For Obama’s Health Care Plan

Written by Vegetarian Star on Wednesday, August 19th, 2009 in Food & Drink, Politicians.

President Obama speaks at VFW Convention in Phoenix

If you’ve been following the Obama Health Care Reform talks, you know people are definitely forming opinions on every side.

Should the United States offer health care for everyone like Canada or European countries? Or is this headed for a system where Americans no longer have choice about their medical decisions.

Whole Foods CEO John Mackey recently wrote an article in the Wall Street Journal where he suggested the best way to combat illness-and fix the health care problem-is through a plant based diet.

“Unfortunately many of our health-care problems are self-inflicted: two-thirds of Americans are now overweight and one-third are obese. Most of the diseases that kill us and account for about 70% of all health-care spending—heart disease, cancer, stroke, diabetes and obesity—are mostly preventable through proper diet, exercise, not smoking, minimal alcohol consumption and other healthy lifestyle choices.”

“Recent scientific and medical evidence shows that a diet consisting of foods that are plant-based, nutrient dense and low-fat will help prevent and often reverse most degenerative diseases that kill us and are expensive to treat. We should be able to live largely disease-free lives until we are well into our 90s and even past 100 years of age.”

Vegetarian Ads Targeting Obama Children Serves Up Controversy

Written by Vegetarian Star on Wednesday, August 5th, 2009 in Children, Food & Drink, Politicians.

politico.com

politico.com

An ad campaign created by the Physician’s Committee For Responsible Medicine is asking why some children have access to healthy, vegetarian lunches and others don’t.

Seems like an innocent question, but since this one is directed toward the children of the president of the United States, some feel it could backfire.

In the ad, Jasmine Messiah, an 8-year-old vegetarian from a Florida public school, asks, “President Obama’s daughters get healthy school lunches. Why don’t I?”

It’s all part of an ongoing effort calling for changes to the Child Nutrition Act, a program that sets the standards for school lunch, that’s up for reauthorization this year.

Several celebrities, including Tobey Maguire, Biz Stone, and Wyntergrace Williams have already called upon lawmakers to ensure every school, public or private, serves vegetarian options to students.

But some have said that a politicians’ children are off limits and the ad shouldn’t include a reference to Sasha and Malia.

Poltico.com writes:

“But media and political experts say the campaign could easily anger a popular president who has taken steps to shield his daughters from the spotlight. “This is not the way to win the heart of the president,” said Brookings Institution Governance Studies Director Darrell West. “It’s dangerous to target Obama’s daughters because many people view family members as off limits for political advocacy. That’s especially relevant in this case because his daughters are so young.”

Jasmine has also written a letter to the Obama daughters.

What you do think? Will the reference to his children anger president Obama, causing the campaign to backfire? Or is Mr. Obama a sensible man who knows something must be done to change what children are being fed for the majority of the year while becoming educated citizens?
