Illeana Douglas

Illeana Douglas stars in a web-based series, Easy To Assemble, about a woman who’s fed up with Hollywood and decides to work in an IKEA store instead.

Easy to Assemble filming takes place in an actual IKEA store and involves lots of Swedish meatballs.

And apparently it was easy to assemble a veggie meatball to accommodate Illeana.

“I’m a vegetarian!” Illeana said. “They were kind enough to make for me vegetarian meatballs. So everything we’re doing has been with IKEA, [and we] lucked out that we’ve all become friends. It’s been a real playground for all of us. We’re constantly inspired by things that happen to them, or their philosophy, and it influences a lot of the work.”

Illeana is working on another web spin-off, Sparhusen, which follows a faux Swedish band.

Watch the clip below to see Ileana chow down on her faux meatballs.

Jane Velez-Mitchell Farm Sanctuary Walk For Animals 2009 (Video)

Written by Vegetarian Star on Tuesday, October 6th, 2009 in Events, Food & Drink, Journalists, Videos.

Jane Velez-Mitchell, one of several speakers featured at Farm Sanctuary’s Walk For Animals this past weekend, brings her dog for support as she stands up and gives a riling speech to the crowd.

Wow!

Jane sounds just like she does on TV when she’s giving someone the diatribe!

Jane uses the story of the woman paralyzed from eating an e. coli tainted burger to make her point.

“When are people going to get it?” she asked. “What is bad and cruel to animals is bad and cruel to us.”

Right on, Jane!

“And why is it so many highly intelligent, sophisticated intellectuals can’t figure this out?”

“Because people don’t want to look in the mirror and face the truth about themselves.”

Ouch!

Watch the entire clip above and be sure to watch Part 1 on Jane’s speech too.

Thanks a bunch to Tracie.

Gordon Ramsay, the man who joked he put his kids on a fence and electrocute them if they ever became vegetarian, is featuring a vegetarian challenge during one of the final episodes of Hell’s Kitchen.

This Tuesday, October 6 2009, the final four chefs will compete in a challenge to please hungry, finicky vegetarian children. The orders will come from Felix Light, a child who has portrayed the foul mouthed chef in comical videos.

From Fox:

“The final four chefs get a pep talk by a pint-sized version of Gordon Ramsay,Felix Light, and are then given the unique challenge of preparing 80 vegetarian entrees to serve to 80 hungry guests. The surprise twist is that the guests are 80 screaming and hungry kids, who don’t necessarily love vegetables! The kids get to choose the challenge winner, who will be rewarded with a fancy makeover from a Beverly Hills salon and a lunch date with Gordon at the world-famous Nobu. When dinner service begins, two contestants are pushed to the limit and fall apart on an all-new episode of Hell’s Kitchen airing Tuesday, Oct. 6 (8:00-9:00 PM ET/PT) on FOX. (HK-613) (TV-14 D, L).”

Felix Light does a good job of playing “Mini Ramsay.” Watch the clip below to see Felix protest a sausage that, in his words, tastes like “dogsh*t.”

Maybe Felix would find veggie sausages more satisfying?

“We shouldn’t make kids dissect animals,” Steve says.

“They should have the choice to say, ‘On a moral level, I’m not into that.'”

Evander Holyfield has just announced he’s interested in helping the environment.

He told the Associated Press: “I guess I’m lean and green. I’m pretty much going to do all I can to fight against global warming. I’ll see what I can do to help and try to help other people who want to do the same thing.”

Part of those plans include turning an acre of his suburban Atlanta estate into an organic garden that can be used by youth and building a 40-acre solar energy farm on the same property.

Evander said part of the reason he’s embarking on green adventures is he’s recently gained some financial success and wants to give back.

Some of that financial success is from his recent Taco Bell commercials, like the one shown above.

We’re ecstatic that Evander is giving all his punch to the environment, but have to speak up and say the best way he can be “lean and green” is to go veg…and not eat from most of the Taco Bell menu.

Meat and all processes that go toward putting it from the farm to your plate has the greatest impact on the Earth’s health, and going for the refried beans burrito (does Taco Bell have lard in their beans) instead of the Nacho Crunch Burrito is the easiest way to reduce global warming.

To really “think outside the bun,” make one day of the week a meatless day, Evander. It might help you look prettier in that dress you’re wearing in the commercial, too.
