Written by Vegetarian Star on Monday, April 12th, 2010 in Actresses, Food & Drink, Videos.

The clip above shows some highlights from Pamela Anderson making and debuting her signature celebrity milkshake at Millions of Milkshakes in West Hollywood.

Pamela’s is the first vegan celebrity milkshake and Hollywood.tv got the chance to chat with Pamela during the event.

Pamela said her kids like the milkshake and it’s what she makes for them at home in Malibu.

“I think a lot of young people love being vegetarian, because they’re more open to being educated about it,” Pamela added.

Sure the old will like Pamela’s shake just as much–especially if a daily shake will bring them her Dancing with the Stars legs!

Emily Deschanel was on The Ellen DeGeneres Show to celebrate Bones 100th episode, which will air tonight on Fox at 8/7C.

To celebrate the big centennial, the cast was served a half Styrofoam, half real cake, which the vegan for 17 years Deschanel had to pass on and opt for cupcakes instead.

“I watched a documentary called “Diet For A New America,” Deschanel said, when Ellen DeGeneres asked her what made her go vegan.

Attending a progressive school, the film, which is based on the book with the same title by John Robbins, was part of the curriculum.

Sounds like some taxpaying parents got their money’s worth in education!

But sometimes you have to take a stand and step away from the crowd….With so many fashionable, cruelty-free options available, there’s really no excuse for joining a club that wears someone else’s coat.”

Michele is also a vegetarian, thanks to reading Skinny Bitch by Rory Freedman and Kim Barnouin.

Kristen Bell Celebrates “One Day Without Shoes” (Video)

Written by Vegetarian Star on Thursday, April 8th, 2010 in Actresses, Fashion, Videos.

Today is TOMS Shoes annual “Day Without Shoes” and you should celebrate by doing without.

Unless of course, you’re sitting in an office with cubicles–for the sake of your co-workers, keep your feet covered until you’re home.

Vegetarian Kristen Bell is the public face of the campaign this year, as can be seen in the video promo for the event above.

For those living in poverty, going shoeless isn’t an option, and neither are the consequences to not having proper protection.

From OneDayWithoutShoes:

  • In some developing nations, children must walk for miles to school, clean water and to seek medical help.
  • Cuts and sores on feet can lead to serious infection.
  • Often, children cannot attend school barefoot.
  • In Ethiopia, approximately one million people are suffering from Podoconiosis, a debilitating and disfiguring disease caused by walking barefoot in volcanic soil.
  • Podoconiosis is 100% preventable with basic foot hygiene and wearing shoes.

After you’ve walked another’s path without shoes, buy your next pair from TOMS, a company with several vegan friendly options that donates a pair of shoes to a child in need for every pair sold.

Rip Esselstyn “The Engine 2 Diet” Author Inspires The Hegans

Written by Vegetarian Star on Wednesday, April 7th, 2010 in Authors, Food & Drink, Pop Culture, Videos.

Not long ago, Boston.com featured an article on men who eschew the stereotype that meat equals masculinity and opt for a vegan diet and lifestyle.

“Hegans” are what these male vegans are called and the name will probably stick in the media like metrosexual did a few years ago.

One of the more famous hegans described is author of The Engine 2 Diet, Rip Essestyn, a firefighter out of Austin, Texas.

“He helped the men in his department lower their cholesterol in 28 days by shunning animal protein and then turned his efforts into the best-selling “The Engine 2 Diet’’ (Wellness Central). Though not billed as a vegan diet per se, Esselstyn’s “plant-strong’’ lifestyle helps lower cholesterol by going meat-, egg-, and dairy-free, he says. “Sure there is a stigma attached to it, that it’s for yuppie, tree-hugging, emaciated weaklings,’’ he says. “That is far from the truth. I like to say that real men eat plants.’’”

The clip above shows Esselstyn demonstrating how to be manly.

“Bearded Keanu Reeves tries very hard not to check out this fellow vegan’s long slim legs as he waits for a veggie takeaway at Real Foods Daily in Hollywood.”

Keanu and other gentleman might want to continue similar dining habits if they expect to get anywhere other than the “to go” line with any brunette, blond or redhead.

Mark Bittman “Cooking Up A Story” In The Home Again

Written by Vegetarian Star on Tuesday, April 6th, 2010 in Authors, Food & Drink, Videos.

Mark Bittman, part time vegetarian and author of books like Food Matters: A Guide to Conscious Eating, recently appeared on the online television show about food and sustainable living, Cooking Up A Story.

Bittman discussed the importance of eating in the home and said people used to cook years ago.

Then frozen and other convenience foods took over and people, not growing up making things from scratch, looked at cooking “as if there was some sort of mystique to it.”

Take the mystique out of cooking and grab a few good vegetarian cookbooks at your local bookstore or visit an vegetarian online forum for more ideas.
