Ask Men’s 99 Women Of 2011 Are Vegetarian Friendly

Written by Vegetarian Star on Thursday, February 3rd, 2011 in Actresses, Food & Drink, Recipes.

Olivia Wilde

There’s nothing hotter than plants, right? One only has to look at the PETA Super Bowl videos here and here to realize what a turn-on produce is.

So it makes sense that several vegetarian and vegan women have made Askmen.com’s 99 women of 2011 list.

Olivia Wilde has everything the doctor ordered, as the House actress made the cut, proving not only her vegan bolognese is the bomb-diggity. Wilde enjoys picking up items from the Farmers Market and has said most of her veggie nights shared with her Italian husband are filled with pasta.

Visit Askmen.com to see the other veg ladies in the top 99, including Natalie Portman, Lea Michele and Kristen Bell.

Robin Quivers from “The Howard Stern Show” got in the kitchen with her right hand vegan man Gavan Murphy for a lesson in cooking with beets. The show is part of her ongoing web series about learning to cook new vegan food, “Vegucating Robin.”

This recipe uses the entire beet, including the beet greens, which Quivers says are full of nutrition. According to Self, one cup of cooked beet greens are full of Vitamin A, Vitamin C and a good source of iron and calcium.

Nothing’s worst than reading a can of “vegetable” soup only to find beef or chicken stock as an ingredient.

But who needs those condensed cans of liquid vegetable animal when you make your own from scratch?

David Moss’ Hollywood & Dine page at Fox 8 News is full of celebrity recipes he created based on his experience with the stars. After interviewing them, Moss heads to the kitchen to create a meal they’d enjoy. He’s whipped up meals in the name of Jessica Alba, Ashton Kutcher, Gwyneth Paltrow and more.

Robin Quivers Stuffs Portobello–The Veg Man’s Meat (Video)

Written by Vegetarian Star on Friday, January 28th, 2011 in Food & Drink, Recipes, Videos.

The portabello mushroom is the vegetarian man’s (and woman’s meat). Even a carnivore can’t resist a thick cap grilled to perfection and topped with onions, tomatoes, peppers and other veggies while simultaneously wedged between a warm loaf like focaccia.

Robin Quivers from “The Howard Stern Show” continues her journey in learning to cook new vegan dishes on her web-based show, “Vegucating Robin,” by stuffing portabello with herbed quinoa.

Yum!

She and co-host Gavan Murphy have nicknamed this the vegan meat of vegans.

Giveaway–Gardein Faux Meat Products!

Written by Vegetarian Star on Wednesday, January 26th, 2011 in Food & Drink, Giveaways, Recipes.

It’s been awhile since we gave something away. We’ve been too busy munching on crispy faux chicken fingers and mock beef tips in burgundy sauce.

Vegetarian Star is giving away 2 coupons for a free Gardein product, which you can find at stores like Kroger, Whole Foods and Safeway. To find a Gardein carrying establishment near you, visit this form.

To enter, simply leave a comment on this post telling us why you want to win.

The coupon is for any product you’d like, but we’re partial to the chicken fingers (which look like something you’d find in a basket at TGIF) or the Burgundy Trio, which is reminiscent of beef stew and rice without the factory farmed cow who keeps farting and contributing to methane gases.

Contest starts today and ends Tuesday, Februrary 1, 2011 at midnight Pacific Time. The two winners will be chosen randomly and notified via email within 72 hours of contest end date.

Gardein carries vegan fresh and frozen faux meats like chicken, barbecue wings, beefless tips and whole meals featuring mock meat, rice and veggies. Want a recipe idea? Check out Gardein’s recipe for faux bbq chik’n pizza below.

Russell Simmons Is A Vegan Chicken Nugget Fan

Written by Vegetarian Star on Thursday, January 20th, 2011 in Food & Drink, Recipes.

Russell Simmons

Russell Simmons is a thigh man. Or maybe a wing man. Dare we say a breast man?

He likes the taste of chicken, but as a vegan and someone who’s campaigned for better animal welfare standards at KFC, he won’t put his lips near one.

Instead he prefers to have faux chicken nuggets on top a bed of spinach, something he told The Skanner is his favorite meal.

“I like to put spinach on top of olive oil, and just let it wilt for a second. And then put vegan chicken nuggets on top of it. I’m not a big chef.”

Being the small-scale chef  he is, we’re guessing Russell buys frozen faux chicken nuggets. But if you like to wear that organic cotton apron a lot, try some of  the recipes that exist, using tofu, tempeh or seitan.
