Jillian Michaels has whittled down her animal intake to sustainable fish, citing her reasons to the Houston Chronicle as being for animal welfare.

“Personally I’m not eating chicken or beef right now. It’s not about health; it’s about the slaughterhouse practices. I eat a lot of fruits and vegetables, whole grains, fish, organic yogurt and eggs and a lot of beans and nuts. But I also eat things like dark chocolate.”

Those who avoid red meat but still eat chicken may want to know that, according to the Humane Society of the United States, about 95% of land animals in the United States slaughtered for food are chickens, which undergo painful deaths to get to the plates of Americans.

Amanda Cohen, founder and chef of New York city vegetarian restaurant Dirt Candy, will be competing on Iron Chef America on August 29th, 2010 at 10 PM ET/PT against Chef Masaharu Morimoto in a vegetarian on vegetarian challenge.

To Cohen’s surprise, Moriomoto stuck to an entirely vegetarian menu during the challenge in which Cohen worked so hard her pants fell down.

“I can only hope that this moment didn’t make it onto national TV,” Cohen told Lunch Box Bunch about the embarrassing moment during an exclusive interview.

Al Manzo Caroline Manzo

Caroline Manzo of the Real Housewives of New Jersey recently looked in her backyard to discover a black bear relieving himself.

Her son, Joey, sent out a Tweet expressing his irritation with the trespasser, “Hellloooo bear in front yard” and “For those of u who ask, a bear doesn’t poop in the woods…it prefers my front yard.” However, Joey didn’t stop at that as Caroline told CNN a few nights ago her son was begging her husband to shoot it.

Her husband’s response, according to Caroline, was, “I’m not going to shoot it. It’s a beautiful animal. It’s just hungry.”

Well, technically it was probably full if it had to get rid of something, but…Mr. Manzo is the man of the month!

He realizes what groups like the Humane Society and the New Jersey Division of Fish and Wildlife are trying to get across to the public. Bears and humans can get along.

Dating In The Dark is an ABC television reality show modeled after the one originally produced in the Netherlands and was since remade for American, Australian, British, Danish, Finnish, French, and Swedish audiences.

The show gives a whole new meaning to “blind date” as contestants experience their first few dates completely in darkness and are unable to see their potential mates, restricting to touching to, ahem, “assess” one another.

Most recently, Natasha, a swim instructor who’s a vegetarian for ethical reasons tried her hand in love but went home empty.

Most vegetarians looking for love can see an interest before talking to them on the green and vegetarian dating sites we’ve listed before.

Supervegan.com also runs a Date This Vegan feature for vegans in the New York area.

Green is good. And the judges of Project Runway agreed on that recently when this season’s sustainable designer on the show, Gretchen Jones, won the very first challenge.

Jones, who’s patterns include organic cotton, hand-dyed fabrics and soy fibers, impressed Heidi Klum and the others on the “And Sew It Begins” episode. Ironically, the task was a lesson is using less as well. Instead of starting from scratch, Jones had to create a look using a garment from another contestant’s suitcase.

Jones has said on the show, “I always want to be fashion first. I want you to purchase me because I’m an amazing brand that just happens to be green.”

We’ve recovered from the cat throwing former contestant on Project Runway and this season, we’re excited that Gretchen Jones is competing with her organic cotton denim and other sustainable clothing.

Jones told Oregon Live, “I use natural fibers and try to impact my environment by making things to order; I don’t over-produce. I also try to sustain the economy that supports me,” Jones said about buying local.

While we’re loving Tim Gunn‘s anti-fur stance, it’s surprising to learn he was hesitate about Jones using only sustainable materials in the competition. Such little faith?

Danielle Staub

It’s hard to believe that in 2 more years, Real Housewives of New Jersey star Danielle Staub will be 50.

The reality TV actress recently celebrated her 48th at Houston’s in Hackensack, NJ with a friend, and Radar Online reports the two had an almost completely vegetarian dinner–spinach dip, french fries and veggie burgers which probably eventually smelled fishy before the meal was completely gone due to the sashimi salad they shared.

The Houston’s House Made veggie burger consists of “brown rice, black beans and oat bran recipe with sweet soy and melted Jack.”

It’s also a favorite of journalist Nicole Lapin.

“[For] the bathing suits I wanted to go with a grungy, or sexy-grungy look with the chains, but I also wanted to keep it girly with the lace,” Farley told People at the launch party for the line.

Best of all, Filthy Couture has been confirmed by Peta to contain no leather or fur, ensuring the wearer of the material looks her hottest.
