Written by Vegetarian Star on Thursday, November 5th, 2009 in Food & Drink, Male Singers, Meatless Mouthful.

AFI Visits fuse TV's "Distortion"

“I really think for the good of this world that, if I could have it my way, the whole world would be vegan and straightedge. So that’s why I feel it’s important to create an awareness of this lifestyle, create an awareness of the choices people make. To bring awareness about those lifestyles can bring a positive change, if only on the level of an individual.”

Quintessentially Host A Special Screening Of Magnolia Pictures' "FOOD INC"

“School cafeterias serve chicken “McNuggets” and give kids 10 minutes to eat, educating them to be the next generation of fast-food eaters. We need to give kids good food and enough time to eat it, teach them where food comes from, and provide them with opportunities to grow the food in school gardens and cook it in school kitchens. Knowing how to cook is an essential skill. Parents can also get their kids involved in cooking. They need to take back control of their kids’ diets, which has been ceded to food marketers. [Parents] need to be the gatekeepers.”

Although Pollan isn’t vegetarian, he has recommended we eat less meat and begins In Defense of Food with the following statement: Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants.

“No matter what city I’m visiting, or where I’m going, I check out happycow.com and healthydiningfinder.com to find the best veg*n restaurants in that area. That’s how I even discovered soy cheese pizza at the rim of Grand Canyon!”

Discovery Channel's Animal Planet Show "Whale Wars" Event

“Thanksgiving is a time to reflect and express our gratitude for all that we have to be thankful for. In the true spirit of this holiday, take a moment to think about the importance of all life. By choosing a vegetarian diet, every one of us can take part in ending the cruelty animals endure on factory farms. Like cats and dogs, turkeys are intelligent, social, and sensitive beings who want to live. Give thanks this holiday and save a life.”

Russell Simmons rides his bicycle in Miami Beach

“Sometimes I’m amazed that we are still breathing. With horrible abuses of animals, the planet and human kind, it’s amazing that we are still here. But now I’m really afraid that our beloved country, America, is standing on its last wobbly legs. I’m worried that the karmic effects of our negative actions will finally come home to roost. Our lack of compassion and love could actually consume us. However, we are still being given signs from the universe, glimpses of hope and opportunities to rise up and live up to our promise. The whole world wants us to succeed. The whole world wants us to lead.”

Russell Simmons, in an article at huffingtonpost.com on America’s future.

If America is expected to be the leader, how close is it to setting a good example for animal welfare and nutrition for its citizens?
