“I’ve seen the video footage released by Animal Defenders International that shows the owners and trainers with HTWT as they hit elephants as hard as they can with bullhooks and use electric shocks on the animals’ bellies. You can hear a grown elephant who bellows in pain and a baby who cries out while being jabbed repeatedly in the mouth and hit over the head. Please don’t allow the reputation of the fair to be tarnished by its support of cruel elephant rides.”

Joan Jett, in a letter to organizers of the San Diego county fair. The fair is offering elephant rides with animals provided by the entertainment company, Have Trunk Will Travel. HTWT has been found by undercover animal rights investigations to use cruel methods to train its animals, including the use of bullhooks, a practice recently banned in Atlanta.

“The key is introducing veggies as early as possible. They won’t like everything so don’t give up if his first reaction to a new flavor is less than enthusiastic. You have to offer certain foods a few times, with varying degrees of success, to get a sense of what will go on the menu permanently. Roasting is also another great way to get kids to enjoy veggies. It works with everything: broccoli, green beans, brussels sprouts. Cut the vegetable into small, consistent pieces, drizzle on some olive oil and season with a touch of salt. Spread it on a rimmed baking sheet and put it in a 350-degree oven until it’s caramelized. The natural starches turn into sugars, which of course kids love!”

Tyler Florence, in an interview with Metro on how to get kids hooked on veggies. The Food Network chef is one omnivore that is definitely turned on to veggies. He has a line of natural, organic baby food with vegetarian options and is the host of the new series Great Food Truck Race that features a vegan food truck based in Orange County, California.

“The principled diet, the diet that’s best for our health and that of the planet, is unquestionably veganism, or at least near-veganism, or a very very plant heavy diet, or “less-meatarianism” or whatever you want to call it: a diet of mostly plants, none or very few animal products, and certainly no junk or ultra-processed food (among which you could count industrially raised animal products), even if it is theoretically plant-based.”

Meatless Mouthful–Mark Zuckerberg Urged To Go Vegan

Written by Vegetarian Star on Thursday, June 2nd, 2011 in Animal Issues, Food & Drink, Meatless Mouthful, Tech.

Mark Zuckerberg

“Zuckerberg is known for taking on personal challenges, and he believes people “should take responsibility and be thankful for what they eat rather than trying to ignore where it came from.” Zuckerberg deserves credit for getting at least halfway through a mental lesson most people never bother to start. A new personal challenge could be for him to take this thought process to its logical conclusion, and to then act.”

“Zuckerberg is right. People don’t want to know the truth about the suffering and death that goes into their meat.”

“I am not a vegetarian, but I don’t eat meat very often. First of all, I don’t want to make any declarations like that. Look, If I’m in Cleveland at 3 in the morning and I’m hungry and the only thing I can get is a room service turkey burger, I’m going to get it. But for my own health, meat is probably not the best thing for me. I eat meat like people in the Middle Ages, only on feast days. I probably eat it maybe a dozen times a year or probably eat it maybe a dozen times a year or something. If that’s not good enough for the vegetarians, sorry.”

“Subjecting animals to pain and suffering just so that we can produce a new shade of lipstick or eye-shadow is simply cruel and unnecessary in this day and age. EU politicians promised to ban the sale of cruelly-tested cosmetics by 2013 and I sincerely believe they should honour that ethical pledge.”

Mary McCartney, on the European Union delay to ban the sale of animal tested cosmetics. Although animal testing was outlawed in both the UK and Europe, products that contain animal tested ingredients are still being sold. A ban on such products has been delayed several times over the past few years, and officials are still considering delaying the new 2013 deadline.
