Martha Stewart Gave Up Fur. Will She Give Up Meat Too?

A blogger at Vegansaurus was lucky enough to snag tickets to Martha Stewart‘s vegan episode.

Martha hosted Twitter’s Biz Stone, Veganist author Kathy Freston and Farm Sanctuary’s president and co-founder Gene Baur for food demonstrations, animal farm discusses and all things vegan.

When asked if she was ready to make the switch to veganism, Martha said she was on her way there, and told a story about how traumatized she was from a beef purchase that left her, not stained for life, but definitely tarnished.

A recent Top Chef episode had the cheftestants making a meal with conesssion style food on a ferry during a trip to Ellis Island where they would learn about their own ancestry and make meals which reflected their heritage.

It seems like every major newspaper and magazine is featuring veganism lately.

Newsweek ran an article on vegan CEOs. The Wall Street Journal talked about almond milk. If periodicals with readerships in the millions are talking about veggies regularly, we must be on our way to world where more meals eaten by the majority of people are plant-based.

Recently, WSJ ran an article called “Meet the Meaty Veggies,” where it discusses how popular chefs like Blue Hill’s Dan Barber cook up veggies for herbivores and meat eaters alike.

PETA Wants San Francisco Tenderloin District Renamed Tempeh

Revitalizing a run-down part of San Francisco known for high crime and poverty takes a lot from city officials. PETA is suggesting that a basic name change from a violent, murderous act to a healthier vegan protein alternative may be the trick.

The group has written to interim mayor Ed Lee, asking him to rename the city’s Tenderloin district to Tempeh.

Brandon Routh Move Over–Real Vegan Superpowers Discovered

Brandon Routh may have played a vegan with superpowers in the Scott Pilgrim movie, but a team of researchers from both the FDA and several universities have discovered people eating vegan diets may indeed gain abilities that their meat-eating peers lack.

These newly discovered abilities are in addition to the health benefits a vegan diet bestows, which the USDA has recently recognized as a healthy option in its nutrition guide.

But what about the dozens of other pregnant vegs out there who might be experiencing a little steak cravings even though they’ve been eating seitan for the past 20 years?

Giveaway–Human Breast Milk Cheese

Awhile back, we told you about the human breast milk cheese created by a New York University graduate student.

Mirium Simun conducted taste tests of the different flavors of cheese sourced from milk of several women in the New York and Wisconsin area and results were overwhelmingly positive.

Joanne Rose “Vegan 101” Takes Honors At LA Web Series Festival

Joanne Rose‘s Vegan 101 sketch comedy series took home several honors at the LA Web Series Festival earlier this week, including the title of Outstanding Sketch Comedy Series.

A satirical look at the vegan lifestyle, the first series of Vegan 101 created in 2009 consisted of six short episodes shot on a budget of less than $5,000.
