Timothy Bradley

Another flexitarian diet has emerged, this one invented by boxer Timothy Bradley.

Bradley goes “vegan for 3 1/2 months” before every fight, a practice he’s been doing for several years.

“It’s been four years since I’ve been doing it this way,” Bradley said. “I just feel so much better. Cleaner, mental clarity. You see the physique. I don’t lose any muscle. I’m a lean, mean, fighting machine.”

Rich Roll Finding Ultra

Rich Roll used his “midlife crisis” of obesity and fatigue as motivation to turn into a triathlete and ultra-marathoner who is healthier than most half his age. The vegan athlete, who was named one of 2009 Men’s Fitness “25 Fittest Men in the World,” has published a new book, Finding Ultra, that traces his steps to better health through a plant-based diet after the age of 40.

Roll spoke with CNN where he gave advice on what others can take from the book as they too approach half a century.

Chace Crawford

“My father was a farmer. He taught me a lot. He was a good business man, ran a great farm. He refused to plant GMO seeds (genetically modified). But the neighboring farmer did, and his seeds blew into our farm. Dad sued and lost his farm after an expensive lawsuit with the biggest GMO manufacturing company. They were crooks.”

Chace Crawford‘s character Cole, in the film Peace, Love and Misunderstanding. Cole is a butcher dating a vegetarian who is disgusted that he “dismembers animals for a living.” Cole thinks he can make up for the loss of his father’s farm by butchering local meat and supporting local farmers, a move that softens even his vegetarian girlfriend’s heart (Elizabeth Olsen).

Sometimes truth is more of a pain to organic farmers than fiction. Planting crops beside a conventional farm that uses GMOS can and does cause contamination, risking the organic farmer’s certification and livelihood.

When Jane Velez-Mitchell heard McDonald’s is phasing out gestation crates, she couldn’t have been more excited. The vegan journalist wrote an op-ed piece for CNN’s Eatocracy that both celebrates this advancement in animal welfare and begs to continue the improvement.

“I was thrilled and filled with hope when I heard that headline that the company synonymous with fast food was committing to only buy pork from farmers that do not use gestation crates,” writes Jane.

“But, then, I heard “by 2022.”

Alicia Silverstone's Father's Day Gifts

Father’s Day is just around the corner and vegetarians and vegans should set a good example for dad by giving him a gift that’s cruelty-free and eco-friendly.

Alicia Silverstone has compiled a list of items that will both make dad happy and you feel good about spreading the word on the environment.

Whether he’s 40, 60 or 90, dad still likes being macho, right? There’s nothing manlier than vegan protein powders designed by a triathlete who fuels himself entirely on plants.

“Vega Smoothies – Vega was created by Brendan Brazier, who is a triathlete. He’s created a whole line of products for high-performance athletes and us layfolk alike. This formula is only 100 calories and it’s loaded with proteins, essential fats, fibers, greens and probiotics.”

Your Sister's Sister

Two half-sisters, played by Emilie Blunt and Rosemarie DeWitt, are accidentally united when they show up at the family’s secluded cabin at the same time for a retreat.

Nothing celebrates family more than vegan pancakes and the sisters are joined by friend who offers to taste test some of fluffy goodness cooked up by Blunt’s character.

Adjectives like “terrible” and “challenged” are used.

But hopefully at least the family reunion gets better.

Your Sister’s Sister debuts in select theatres on June 15. Watch the clip below.

Daniel Bryan On Gardening And Asparagus (The Dog)

Daniel Bryan

Daniel Bryan gave an interview to CT.com on his birthday earlier this week. He had a hotel room full of vegan cupcakes but those aren’t the only treats he likes to consume. Bryan has a green thumb and a garden at the home he owns in Washigton state. If only he could live there sometime and actually get to plant what he eats.

Fruits, vegetables, stuff like that,” Bryan said. “I like growing stuff I can eat. To me, that’s a big thing. I own a house in Washington state and I have raspberries, I have a big apple tree, I have strawberries. I don’t get to plant stuff there because I’m never there. I really enjoy that sort of thing.”
