Megyn Price

“To me, cooking vegetarian is an expression of love. It’s saying, I’m taking care of my family. I’m taking care of myself. I’m taking care of animals that aren’t being killed. A cookbook is about sharing the joy of that.”

Megyn Price, in an interview with Vegetarian Times on the vegetarian cookbook she’s currently working on. It’s sure to include plenty of enticing recipes like this one for Very Green Soup, an alternative to chicken soup during those sniffle moments. Price says that, “Chicken soup is traditional, but, last time I checked, it contains the little feathery friends I have in my front yard, so it’s not an option.”

Check out the cruelty-free option to chicken soup that contains rice, fresh herbs, various greens, tofu and more at Price’s blog, Scrambled Meg.

Mayim Bialik

Mayim Bialik took some time with Veg Writing Mama to discuss some things they both have in common–raising veggie kids!

Mayim feeds two boys at home on a vegan diet, and she says it wasn’t hard at all to explain why they were getting hummus and pita instead of beef jerky for snacks.

“I just tell them that this is the way we eat. It’s what our pediatrician, and Mommy and Daddy believe grows the best bodies and brains for the two of them. I do not want them making comparisons to others and don’t want them to go around saying that we are healthier than others.”

Bloomberg Nathan's Contest

New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg was caught celebrating the not-so-art of competitive eating at the recent Coney Island Hot Dog Eating Contest.

His action of cheering on the consumption of over 60 hot dogs in a day and even stuffing his own face with one did not by any means undermine his strong stance on keeping New Yorkers healthy, as the New York Daily News mentions he, “did not wash it down with a big soda.”

Thank goodness.

Your Sister's Sister

The vegan pancakes cooked during an episode of Your Sister’s Sister featuring Emily Blunt and Rosemarie DeWitt as long lost half-sisters reunited were best described as “challenged.”

Writer of the comedy series Lynn Shelton says the scene was inspired by her real life attempt to create an egg-free version of the fluffy flapjack, the kindest words that could be used to describe them being “glue.”

“I have a ridiculous diet. Although, as Mark pointed out earlier, if we put my actual diet on screen nobody would believe it. So I was poking fun at myself. And those particular pancakes came out of a disaster years ago, which was the first time I’d ever tried using flax to replace eggs.”
