Woody Harrelson

Woody Harrelson is behind an innovative company that has spent more than a decade perfecting an eco-friendly wood-free paper.

Prairie Pulp & Paper is a Winnipeg-based company co-founded by the vegetarian and environmentalist actor that has created paper made from wheat straw–a product considered field waste by farmers that is often burned.

“I had a meeting with this engineer who is very knowledgeable about the making of non-wood pulp and paper mills,” Harrelson said. “I asked him who was the closest to making this happen in North America.”

Amy Smart Wants Everything Organic (Video)

Written by Vegetarian Star on Tuesday, October 2nd, 2012 in Actresses, Environment-Eco-Green, Food & Drink, Videos.

Amy Smart and other stars were asked at the 22nd annual Environmental Media Awards what they would do if they had superhero powers to make the world greener.

Place a cape on Smart and a pesticide zapping dagger in her hand as she says she “would make everything organic.”

That’s a great ideal, but you don’t need omnipotent organic superhero powers to make the world greener or even your family’s kitchen. Just pay attention to the major “monsters” of conventional that should be zapped–or at least bought in the organic form as often as possible.

“Being brought up on an organic farm and having a different way of looking at life comes into everything that I do. From day one I didn’t want to be a hypocrite. What we hope to do is to isolate out a mill to just start the process, one that we will work with on a daily basis. The whole idea of improving one’s environmental footprint in this industry is you have to work with people.”

“I want my jokes to be at a higher level. I want jokes with premises that really tap into something. Carlin did something where he really made people aware of political issues and environmental issues while making people laugh at themselves. He was calling people out on their stupidity in a way that made them laugh about it. That’s a skill. I would like to get there. It doesn’t have to be environmental. I am vegan, so I would like to do some animal rights jokes, but it would be more about the suppression in society.I would like to somehow take those serious issues and make people laugh about it.”
