Jamie Oliver Creates Food Revolution Day

Jamie Oliver set up mobile kitchens and invited entire cities to learn Food Network worthy cooking techniques on his ABC television series that aimed to improve the health of America, Jamie Oliver’s Food Revolution.

Now he’s encouraging everyone else to do the same through his national Food Revolution Day taking place May 19.

Whether it’s through hosting a dinner party or attending a registered food event, the goal of this holiday is to celebrate healthier, less-processed food and fight food related diseases like obesity.

Mary McCartney "Food"

Mary McCartney has published a vegetarian cookbook filled with recipes inspired by her mother’s cooking and tales of food memories she formed in the famous McCartney household.

“Growing up in a vegetarian family and having Mum at the helm in the kitchen, encouraging us all to muck in, was the best education I could have asked for,” writes Mary at Food and Drink. “Over the years I have continued to cook as my mum did, experimenting with ingredients, flavours and textures.”

One of the recipes in Food is for a hummus sandwich with chilli jam.

Vegan Cooking for Carnivores

Roberto Martin, the personal chef to Ellen DeGeneres who’s just published his first cookbook, has shared a few recipes from Vegan Cooking for Carnivores with Today.

DeGeneres’ wife Portia de Rossi wrote in the forward to Vegan Cooking, “Roberto taught me that the key to making good food vegan is substitution…you can enjoy all your favorite foods and never feel deprived.”

There’s no deprivation with these three recipes for Vegan Southern Fried Chicken, Mac’ n Cheese and Chocolate Chip Magic Bars.

The Inspired Vegan

Vegan chef Bryant Terry is out to entice those looking to make diet changes that are better for human, planet and animal health with his newly released cookbook, The Inspired Vegan.

Terry is best known for his genius of transforming traditional southern African-American cuisine rich with meat, butter and cream into dishes that lack the animal products but not the taste.

The Inspired Vegan continues that tradition, but also explores plant-based Asian entrees, such as the “Two-Rice Congee with Steamed Spinach and Other Accompaniments.”

Roberto Martin, Ellen DeGeneres‘ personal chef and the man that’s enticed viewers of her show with tasty meatless dishes like Thanksgiving Seitan Roast, Spring Rolls and Vegan Tacos, has published a cookbook with a title that suggests he’s out to convert a few hamburger lovers.

Vegan Cooking for Carnivores promises “125 recipes so tasty you won’t miss the meat,” but offers much more than lists of ingredients.

Jacques Pepin

Of all the celebrity chefs who’ve warmed up to the plant-based lifestyle, Jacques Pepin is still not one of them.

The master of French cuisine recently spoke with Bay Area Bites when he touched on the subject of California’s foie gras ban that goes into effect July 2012 and Paula Deen‘s grease fest southern cooking.

“They have no idea what they are talking about. And the worst is that they are righteous,” Jacques said of officials who created a ban that makes it illegal to “force-feed a bird with the intent of enlarging the animal’s liver “beyond normal size” or to “hire a third party to do so” and suggested similar measures to improve animal welfare standards like those in chicken slaughter were also ridiculous.
