Quantcast Vegetarian StarJamie Oliver Creates Food Revolution Day

Jamie Oliver

Jamie Oliver set up mobile kitchens and invited entire cities to learn Food Network worthy cooking techniques on his ABC television series that aimed to improve the health of America, Jamie Oliver’s Food Revolution.

Now he’s encouraging everyone else to do the same through his national Food Revolution Day taking place May 19.

Whether it’s through hosting a dinner party or attending a registered food event, the goal of this holiday is to celebrate healthier, less-processed food and fight food related diseases like obesity.

“There are so many incredible people working on this issue, so we wanted to provide a platform for anyone with skills and knowledge around food — chefs, gardeners, food bloggers, food educators, etc. — to offer experiences/events (classes, seminars, tours, sessions) to kick start a real food movement in their community,” Oliver said.

“They can go to the website and create a local food event and it will be in our global event listings for the public to attend. It can be an event for five people or for 50, and the more creative the better. We hope that this will inspire future projects at a grassroots level and connect neighbors who can support each other in standing up for real food.”

At FoodRevolutionToday.com, interested foodies can look for dinner parties to attend, register an event of their own and search for an event by zip code.

More on why we need this day of action from FoodRevolutionToday.com:

“Worldwide, obesity has more than doubled since 1980. For the first time in history, being overweight is killing more people than being underweight, and at least 2.8 million adults around the world die each year as a result of being overweight or obese. This has to change, and it’s down to us. We can do this by improving food education.”

“Encouraging people to cook from scratch at home is at the heart of this. We all have family and friends who could make better food choices. On Food Revolution Day we can work together to empower people with the skills to improve their diet.”
