Spike TV's 7th Annual Video Game Awards 2009 - Arrivals

If you’re offered the pleasure of eating lunch or dinner with professional skateboard legend and video game guru Tony Hawk, ask him to buy you a veggie burger at The Counter Burger restaurant.

A weirdo like yourself will be pleased.

“Lunch at @counterburger is really good,” he Tweeted. “This is not a plug, just a recommendation. Even my finicky weirdo vegetarian friend likes it.”

The Counter Burger menu will allow you to pick your burgers (which will obviously be meat free), then customize the toppings.

And these are no ordinary toppings, veg friends.

Cranberries on a burger? You can have that, as well as pineapple, corn and black bean salsa, guacamole and of course the regular burger features like onions, tomatoes and lettuce

Sick of ketchup?

Try peanut sauce instead.

Or, you can opt for the already built Unique Veggie burger with organic mixed greens, roasted red peppers, sprouts, onions and Dijon Basalmic Dressing.

Counter Burgers on mostly located in U.S. California, but also in major cities in states like Illinois, Washington and the countries of Ireland and Australia.

West coast vegans are jumping with joy now that one of the most popular and celebrity sought after bakeries has opened in Los Angeles.

BabyCakes LA opened its doors in California this past weekend.

BabyCakes LA is located in downtown Los Angeles at 130 East 6th Street (between S. Main Street and S. Los Angeles Street).

Offering vegan cookies, brownies, cupcakes, loaves and more, the bakery was founded in New York by Erin McKenna after she spent hours in her own kitchen formulating recipes for desserts her body could tolerate, given her numerous food sensitivities.

BabyCakes items are vegan, mostly organic and gluten-free.

Hmm…New York during the summer, sunny Cal during the winter.

It’s time to purchase an east coast/west coast time share.

John Mackey–Whole Foods Meat And Animal Welfare

Written by Vegetarian Star on Friday, January 1st, 2010 in Animal Issues, Business, Food & Drink.

Whole Foods CEO John Mackey Challenges The FTC Over Wild Oats Merger

As a vegetarian, can you ever agree that some meat is ethical?

John Mackey made the decision to go vegetarian after discovering how some animals farmed for meat were treated.

“I became more conscious of what we were doing to livestock animals and how much those animals were being abused,” he said during a video interview posted on the Whole Foods blog.  “The summer of 2003, I read a dozen books or so on the way animals were being treated and I decided in good conscious I didn’t want to eat animals anymore.”

But Whole Foods still sells meat. Does this make Mackey a hypocrite?

“I find the death argument to not be a particularly good one because everything that’s alive dies. At the end of the day it’s the quality of life that you have prior from birth to death that really matters. Not whether you die in the end. Animals are going to die in the end and what matters to them whether the life they have from birth to death is a life that allows them to fulfill their animal potential.”

Mackey says the company has been developing an Animal Welfare 5 Step rating program, which will rate producers based on how they treat their livestock. Ideally, the producers with the highest rating will be the only ones to sell their product at Whole Foods.

Certainly a life full of free movement and fresh air beats being crammed in cages and being forced to reproduce or produce products like milk unnaturally.

Do you agree with Mackey?

Or should Whole Foods aim to stop selling meat entirely?

Real Food Daily Keeps Tobey Maguire, LA Celebrities Happy

**EXCLISUVE** Tobey Maguire spends some quality time with daughter Ruby Sweetheart and a friend in LA

Vegetarians and meat eaters can get along and even eat together, so says Lauren Harb at the Huffington Post.

Harb reviewed several restaurants in the Los Angeles area that ranged from totally vegan to meat dominant with recessive veggie features.

Real Food Daily, a vegan food mecca, made the list to make everyone happy in mixed company.

“OK, I’ll be honest. Most meat-eaters aren’t dying to eat vegan cheese or meat substitutes when they can have the real thing. But it is with extreme confidence that I promise you, no matter what your diet will or won’t allow, you want to eat their Not-chos. More often than you probably should. And yes, you want to add the tofu taco mix. No, you won’t know the difference from the real thing.”

Besides Not-chos and tofu tacos, RFD is the place to get a glimpse of numerous LA celebs like Tobey Maguire, Elizabeth Berkley, Orlando Bloom and Miranda Kerr and even meat loving country cutie Brad Paisley.

Is there an LA restaurant on Harb’s list that keeps you happy?
