Willis McGahee Chooses Ink, Not Mink

Men, if you want your girlfriends and wives to get into watching sports with you, just petition the NFL, NBA and other professional sports organizations to ban clothing during game time.

NFL running back Willis McGahee stars in this anti-fur ad for People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals. He joins a long list of celebrities showing off their tattoos for the animal rights group’s ads that advocate ink over mink and other types of fur.

“I don’t think they understand where it comes from or how they treat the animal to get the fur,” McGahee says in a behind the scenes interview with PETA, referring to the discussion that sparks when he sees other celebrities wearing fur and some of the methods in which fur is obtained, such as electrocution or skinning them alive.

Phil Mickelson Quits Vegetarian Diet

Written by Vegetarian Star on Wednesday, January 19th, 2011 in Athletes-Games-Sports, Food & Drink, Not So Vegetarian.

Phil Mickelson

He may have won several major championships during his PGA career, but when it comes to sticking with a vegetarian lifestyle, Phil Mickelson belongs in the bail-out area.

After giving the diet a try in an attempt to curb some of his arthritis symptoms, Mickelson has announced he’s no longer eating that way.

Is it that ultimately a burger joint owner is doomed to fail?

“I was a strict vegetarian for five months, and that went okay but ultimately, it was doomed to fail,” Mickelson said at a press conference. “I learned a lot from that as far as eating habits and diet and so I’ve implemented a lot of the things from that.”

Mike Tyson

“The first thing I ever loved in my life was a pigeon. I don’t know why…I feel ridiculous trying to explain it. Pigeons are a part of my life. It’s a constant with my sanity in a weird way; this is just what I do. If I’m lucky enough to die an old man, I’m going to have birds.”

Mike Tyson, who’s starring in an Animal Planet series about pigeon racing, “Taking On Tyson,” which premieres March 6th. Some animal rights activists have criticized pigeon racing, as it requires birds to be given antibiotics for illnesses and race in adverse weather.

How do you feel about this? Should Mike Tyson show the birds love by instead donating to a bird charity or opening up a sanctuary?

Anyone who breaks an American record for running a 24 hour race probably has good advice on nutrition. Heck, anyone who can run for 24 hours should set the new government guidelines for eating and rebuild the food pyramid.

Vegan ultra marathoner Scott Jurek is about to release a book either by the end of this year or early 2012 that may contain some indispensable advice for plant-fueled athletes like he gave to No Meat Athlete.

Number 1: Go Slowly
Like training for your first marathon, switching to a vegetarian or vegan diet that’s healthy isn’t happening in a week. “I think it’s always good to have a gradual transition; have a plan,” Jurek said. “PCRM does a great 21-Day Vegan Kickstart program and giving support along the way.”
