Miss Tennessee USA Kristy Landers Niedenfuer

2014 was a great year for vegetarian news. Here’s a look at the top stories Vegetarian Star feels were the most worthy.

#5. TODAY Hosts Do Real Vs. Faux Meat Taste Test. Al Roker, Matt Lauer and the crew agreed even a meat lover would enjoy digging their teeth in some of the faux cold cuts featured.

#4. The Year Of The Cat. Host of the popular Animal Planet series My Cat From Hell Jackson Galaxy did an exclusive interview with the President and CEO of the Humane Society of the United States Wayne Pacelle. Galaxy and Pacelle gave cats four paws up as they discussed cats in the news and the potential impact these animals can have on the lives of millions of pet owners.

#3. Vegan Chef Wins Cutthroat Kitchen. Vegans and vegetarians often get roasted (pun intended) on reality cooking shows. But  Louisville vegan chef Kristina Addington beat her competitors in the series where opponents spend money to sabotage the competition. It pays to be nice. It doesn’t hurt to be vegan either.

“It’s interesting, because you can’t really cuddle birds; there’s just something [about them]. They’re beautiful, they’re different, they’re varied in so many ways and you can tell a lot about a landscape by the health of the bird population. And I love the songs they sing.”

Ian Harding, in an interview with the Humane Society of the United States for the January/February issue of its All Animals magazine. The actor has volunteered at the HSUS affiliated The Fund for Animals Wildlife Center in the past, helping the facility release rehabilitated birds.

Pope Francis Says All Dogs Go To Heaven

Pope Francis

Update 12/15/2014: It turns out, Pope Francis was actually referencing to a statement made by one of his predecessors. He was not the one who comforted the boy or the owner of the original statement on animals going to heaven. However, as far as Vegetarian Star is concerned, all pets are nothing but angels.

Catholic animal lovers will be glad to hear that Pope Francis has declared their four-legged friends worthy of the Kingdom of Heaven.

Even the ones with obedience problems.

During a speech, Francis comforted a boy who had experienced the loss of his pet dog.

“One day, we will see our animals again in the eternity of Christ. Paradise is open to all of God’s creatures,” Francis said.

Marco Antonio Regil Interview With Vegetarian Star–Part 2

Written by Vegetarian Star on Monday, November 17th, 2014 in Animal Issues, Food & Drink, Interviews, TV Hosts.

Marco Antonio Regil 100 Latinos Dijeron

This is part two of the interview with Latin TV personality Marco Antonio Regil. Above Marco can be seen hosting the Spanish version of American game show Family Feud, 100 Latinos Dijeron.

In 2004, you took part in the White House’s Cinco de Mayo celebration. How was that experience? Do you think former president Bill Clinton’s openness to the media about how adopting a vegan diet helped his heart conditions has made an impact on how America views the vegan lifestyle?
Visiting the White House was such a great honor! I was there hosting the 5 de Mayo celebration, produced by Emilio Estefan and sharing the stage with wonderful singers and musicians. This was before becoming a U.S. citizen and I remember how happy I was there.

I think Bill Clinton is a great example to everyone. There’s more and more people joining and breaking the myth of man having to eat meat in order to be manly or strong. I mean, check out Arian Foster, who is the best running back in the NFL. He plays with the Houston Texans and eats a 99% vegan diet. There are body builders, CEO’s, Olympic athletes and, of course, celebrities going vegan. The goal is to be vegan for the animals and the planet (which were my original motivations), but also to be a very healthy vegan. These days, you can find all kinds of comfort foods in their plant based versions – – which could be good news or bad news, depending on how you look at it. It’s wonderful because we can have a vegan doughnut or soyriso (vegan chorizo), but it’s not something I would recommend eating every day!

Wendi McLendon-Covey, star of The Goldbergs, has a message to all cat lovers just in time for National Cat Day!

October 29, the day that celebrates the joys of feline friends, is the perfect time to get a lesson or a refresher course on good cat care.

Wendi reminds pet owners of the importance of shelter, fresh food and water and keeping a clean litter box.

Her newest addition to her cat family, Crash, has a spot in the PSA as well.

Crash is great at doing a lot for Wendi, including giving her wardrobe advice, dishing on friends and significant others and serving as a neighborhood watch cat.

Well…as you’ll see in the clip, maybe not so great at doing number three.

A second video can be seen after the break.
