Will Jessica Simpson Give Up Bacon?

Written by Vegetarian Star on Monday, February 22nd, 2010 in Animal Issues, Female Singers, Food & Drink.

Jessica Simpson joins her family at BOA steakhouse to celebrate her father Joe's birthday

Months after losing her best four legged Maltipoo friend Daisy, Jessica Simpson is thinking of adopting another animal.

Simpson Tweeted that she’d like to own a pig.

“I’m thinking about getting a pet pig. Does this mean I’ll have to give up pork?”

Sounds like a fairly innocent statement.

Simpson’s love for her new pet might cause her to rethink eating many animals, including pigs.

But PETA isn’t satisfied and issued a statement to US magazine:

“Pigs, who are smarter than dogs and every bit as sensitive to pain and stress, don’t belong in Jessica’s stomach or carted around as her latest.”

Simpson’s pet move could place her in the ranks of another celebrity scorned by the animal rights group for her treatment of animals–Paris Hilton.

The hotel heiress bought “Princess Piglet” last fall.

If Simpson cuts bacon, ham and Spam from her diet, she may discover that meaty taste doesn’t have to involve saturated fat or slaughter.

Some girls are still eating meat, but real girls know when it’s time to at least go flexitarian.

Who wants to see Michael Vick naked?

You don’t have to raise your hand just yet, but the people at Playgirl magazine have already put money on the table for Vick to bare all if he donates $1 million to PETA.

“I sent the request to Michael Vick on Wednesday,” Daniel Nardicio, Playgirl rep tells Life & Style. “But we haven’t heard back yet.”

“I figured he paid back society for dog fighting, but what about the animals?” said Daniel.

“This way he could donate a large sum to PETA and all he’d have to do is pose for the magazine! It’s kind of a win-win situation!”

For a real win-win situation, Vick could keep his clothes on and Playgirl could still donate money or time to animal causes.

Vick has voluntarily partnered with the Humane Society to  help deter youth from participating in dog fighting activities.

Daryl Hannah Has A Board Game

Fans of Daryl Hannah might see less of her on screen, unless there’s a casting for the female Evan Almighty in the works.

Hannah says she prefers spending time with her animals than on a movie set, according to Contact Music.

“I’ve been acting since I was 11 years old and it’s an incredibly wonderful and beautiful creative outlet and I think it can be an inspiring thing for people’s imaginations and a wonderful escape,” Hannah said.

“I still love movies and I always will but, as I grow up, my priorities shift a little bit to things of a little more substance and I want to be of service as much as I can.”

Having alpacas, chickens and roosters, she’s got plenty of non human friends to give her attention to.

Hannah says she often takes in rescue animals and the ones she doesn’t give away become permanent residents at her farm.

Snowboard Ladies Halfpipe - Day 7

Hannah Teter won the Silver Medal in the Women’s halfpipe competition in snowboarding this year.

Last year, Teter was honored by having a limited edition Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream flavor, Maple Blondie, named after her.

Like vegetarian Teter, Ben & Jerry’s is interested in improving the world by following more animal friendly practices.

The ice cream giant is in the process of sourcing eggs that come from cage-free farms and is expected to complete the phase in by the end of this year.

The company is also against using recombinant Bovine Growth Hormone (rBGH), a substance used to produce more milk in dairy cows, and sources their dairy products from family farms.
