Calvin Klein Collection & LAND's 1st Annual Celebration For ALAC

Ginnifer Goodwin appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live where she discussed how her diet is a lot different from what she ate growing up.

Goodwin said she used to work in a barbecue restaurant in her hometown of Memphis, Tennessee and although she can still remember the smell, something she nicknamed “Eau de Memphis,” these days she prefers barbecue sauce on tofu instead of ribs.

Kimmel joked that was the reason Goodwin had to leave Memphis.

Of course, any Memphis vegetarian knows there’s no shortage of good tasting meatless food in the south!

Goodwin starred in Farm Sanctuary’s Adopt-A-Turkey PSA and told Kimmel she was the  Turkey Ambassatrist.

Sounds like an exciting job to have!

Bonnie Hunt “Bonnie Hunt Show” Promotes Pet Adoption

Written by Vegetarian Star on Monday, March 1st, 2010 in Actresses, Animal Issues, TV Hosts.

58th Annual ACE Eddie Awards - Arrivals

Bonnie Hunt features a pet adoption segment twice a month on her daytime talk show, the Bonnie Hunt Show.

The animals get their own video promos on Bonnie’s website, along with their background information, which makes it look very similar to an online dating service.

Maybe that’s why Hunt’s adoption feature is such a hit.

From Tails Inc.:

“It is entertaining when you see all these dogs and hear their stories when the rescue people come out and say, “We found this one at the railroad tracks, and we named her this. She’s about 2 years old, and we don’t know her story.” They try to figure out the mix. And then you just see some great family with three kids come and pick up the dog. It’s great.”

Growing up, Hunt and her mother welcomed a slew of animals into the home, even though her father was a little apprehensive about it.

“My dad would say, “We can’t do this. Not another one.” And then he would love them more than anybody. That was the whole premise of those Beethoven movies I did earlier in my career, where I played the mom who was like, “We’ll take the dog and hide it from dad.”

Jorja Fox Backs End Dog Fighting Campaign

Written by Vegetarian Star on Monday, March 1st, 2010 in Actresses, Animal Issues.

Genesis Awards 2009

Jorja Fox is speaking out against dog fighting, backing a campaign by the Humane Society of the United States that aims to end the cruel sport.

According to Contact Music, Fox told People.com, “The more you know (about dog fighting), the less you want to know. It’s terrifying. When I heard about this project last spring, I called the Humane Society and said if they wanted help, to call on me. It’s a brilliant program.”

Fox said that although most people think of pit bulls as the only victims of dog fighting, other dogs are often in danger.

Fox said the program by the Humane Society works to help at risk youth realize there is greater value in owning an animal than having it partake in violent activities.

“Pit bulls are smart and healthy – they can do so much. So the organization works to get kids showing that off, and getting excited about that, instead of falling into the dark side. Dogs like Malteses and Jack Russell terriers end up getting stolen in communities where kids are dog fighting, used as training material for the pit bulls. It’s awful.”

Jack Hanna “Larry King Live”–Whale Trainers Like Astronauts

Jack Hanna On Larry King Live

Jack Hanna On Larry King Live

Larry King hosted Jack Hanna and PETA’s Ingrid Newkirk on Larry King Live, where the two got into a heated debate over whether keeping whales like the one that killed SeaWorld trainer Dawn Brancheau, is safe for humans and animals.

Newkirk said the conditions aren’t ideal for the whales and that they are “swimming in their own diluted urine” and she hopes the company is sued.

Hanna said the benefits of learning about whales outweigh the risks and compared the trainers to astronaunts.

“Larry, didn’t our astronauts go up in the space shuttle and we lost them when they came back? It was a terrible thing. They went back up in space, didn’t they? We want to learn from space and help mankind. That’s what SeaWorld does. These are dangerous animals. This young lady sacrificed her life and would be sitting here today saying she’d do it again for the great work she’s done and SeaWorld has done to educate tens of millions of people over the last years.”

Do you agree with Hanna?

Or is there a better way to educate the public than through marine parks like SeaWorld?

Jack Hanna Defends SeaWorld, Keeping Whales Captive (Video)

Jack Hanna appeared on the Early Show where he discussed the recent tragedy of the death of trainer Dawn Brancheau by a killer whale.

Early Show co-anchor Maggie Rodriguez questioned SeaWorld’s judgement for keeping Tilikum, given the fact the whale had been implicated in the death of other trainers.

Hanna defended both SeaWorld and the practice of keeping whales in captivity.

“I take my hat off to SeaWorld to take a killer whale that someone said we should euthanize, (and) bring it to SeaWorld,” Hanna said.

“We do everything we can (to put) the safety of our animals and visitors first. The SeaWorld in-vitro planted, they can now take sperm and eggs and have a baby killer whale. Let’s say 20, 30 years from now, there’s 200 killer whales left in the wild. Let me tell you where we’re going to go: We’re going to go to SeaWorld and see what to to save this magnificent creature. That’s how valuable it is for what we’re doing with research. I hear all these other people commenting with killer whales. Give me a break. Seaworld are the ones that know more about killer whales, and the millions of dollars they spend this rescuing whales is unbelievable. And we put them back out in the wild. So no one hears about this.”

What’s your take on whales being kept in marine parks like SeaWorld?

Tiger Woods Sex Ad Put On Hold

Tiger Woods apologizes for irresponsible and selfish behavior in Florida

PETA’s plans to put up a billboard using the Tiger Wood‘s mistress scandal to call attention to spaying and neutering animals has been placed on hold.

The billboard planned to feature Tiger next to PETA’s famous ad line, “Too Much Sex Can Be A Bad Thing,” followed by “for little Tigers too.”

In a statement obtained by X17online, PETA explained Tiger’s legal team has thwarted their plans.

“We apologize, but in light of conversations we have had with Mr. Woods’ attorneys, we cannot get permission to use the artwork at this time.”

If every politician, pro athlete and regular Joe’s private life was threatened by PETA’s pubic service example setting, would divorce lawyers still be in business?

SeaWorld Never Kills Animals For Aggressive Behavior

Written by Vegetarian Star on Thursday, February 25th, 2010 in Animal Issues, Business.

Killer Whale Kills Trainer Before Show At SeaWorld

After trainer Dawn Brancheau was killed while swimming with killer whale Tillikum, SeaWorld officials still have no plans to euthanize the animal, which has been linked to two other deaths since 1991.

SeaWorld have banned trainers from swimming with Tillikum, but he is still used in shows where trainers give him commands outside of the tank.

“Euthanasia is different in a veterinary setting, but we have never euthanized an animal for being aggressive,” SeaWorld spokeswoman Leigh Andrus said.

“The plan is to review our protocols and continue to care for Tillikum with the same high level of care. Trainers will interact with the animal to provide care, but this was never an animal which trainers swam with.”

A statement made by Brancheau’s family said she, “would not want anything done to that whale.”

Animal rights activists that oppose captivity of these animals are calling for a release of Tillikum into a coastal sanctuary, a more controlled environment that the wild.

Kellan Lutz PETA Adoption Ad

Another Twilight star has offered to pose in a PETA ad.

Kellan Lutz stars in this PSA urging his Twihard fans and everyone else to adopt a cat or dog instead of buying one at a pet store.

Lutz personally experienced the joy of bringing a shelter animal into his life when he adopted his dog, Nola.

“She wanted a home, and I think she felt that I was the right owner for her. And from that day on, I just loved her.”

The Twilight cast is doing a great job publicly promoting animal welfare issues.

Would love to see the vegetarian Cullens get together and do a “We’d Rather Eat Humans Than Wear Fur,” ad.
