Mayim Bialik Gets Hip With Hemp On What Not To Wear

Written by Vegetarian Star on Saturday, May 30th, 2009 in Actresses, Fashion, Videos.

If you tuned in to TLC last night, you saw the lovely Mayim Bialik get a brand new look.

Apparently, the Blossom sitcom series star had still been wearing the frumpy 90s clothing she wore back in the days when Stacy London and Clinton Kelly cornered her and said, “It’s time for a change!”

A change it was, as Mayim was able to find some awesome vegan Doc Martens, as well as shop in environmentally conscious stores that sold sustainable clothing.

“I’m a vegan, and they found a lot of eco-conscious boutiques with hemp material, so that was great,” Mayim told The New York Post.

Mirror, mirror on the wall, who’s the hempest of them all? Probably The Hempest clothing shop complete with men’s and women’s clothing, as well as handbags and other accessories. If you’re in need of a hip hemp makeover, you might want to make a stop there online.

Watch the clip to see Mayim get ticketed by the TLC fashion police.

Mayim Bialik’s What Not To Wear Makeover Changes Her Leather Shoe Policy

Written by Vegetarian Star on Friday, May 29th, 2009 in Actresses, Fashion.

Opening Of CavaliaMayim Bialik had the privilege of receiving a makeover compliments of the team at What Not To Wear.

Although Mayim’s said before she’d never call herself completely vegan, she does try to avoid leather. Mayim used to take it a bit further and avoid products that even looked like leather.

From celebrity-babies.com:

“They made me throw out my Doc Martens, but when we went to the vegan shoe store in Manhattan they had vegan Doc Martens, so I may have to indulge! My policy used to be that I didn’t like to wear shoes that looked like leather, even if they weren’t, but I let that go, because my feeling is if they aren’t leather, then it’s OK for them to look leather. I gave them so many limitations with my rules on bold colors, pants, frills, so I figured I’d wear vegan shoes that look like leather.”

Some people refuse to wear fake fur for the same reason. What’s your take on the situation? Should vegetarians and vegans avoid wearing lookalikes because they give the wrong impression?

CW Upfront arrivals in NYC

In a recent interview with Men’s Health Magazine, Jessica Szohr admitted to a super orgasmic experience involving her man. Uh, her man’s hamburger, that is.

“After ten years of eating vegetarian I tried my boyfriend’s. I was overwhelmed. It was orgasmic.”

She also stated, “When I have a craving for something, I just can’t hold myself back.”

Oh, please. Enough with the ex-vegetarian, Padma Lakshmi food porn talk already.

Jessica Szohr might want to take a few lessons from fellow Gossip Girl actress, Dreama Walker, and get back into the veg life!

And tell Serena to stop dissing the seitan.

National Kidney Foundation Celebrity Golf ClassicActress Alyssa Milano’s had her hands tied lately, juggling both a new ABC television pilot, Romantically Challenged, with her clothing line of baseball themed attire, Touch.

Alyssa is no stranger to the ballpark, becoming inspired to design Touch after experiencing frustration in not finding any cute outfits that displayed pride for her team in the baseball shops. She’s also no stranger to ballpark food, and says it’s definitely not the place for dieting.

“Part of the fun of a baseball game is actually pigging out on the concessionary food and throwing peanut shells on the floor,” Alyssa said, according to stylenews.peoplestylewatch.com. “I have four seats at Dodger stadium and after a game it looks like a tornado came through.”

Alyssa, being vegetarian, can stuff all the peanuts and popcorn down her throat at Dodger stadium, but if she visits any of the 10 Most Veggie Friendly Ballparks, she can pig out a lot more.

Philadelphia Phillies fans can munch on faux Philly steak sandwiches and crab-free cakes on their home turf at Citizens Bank Park. San Fransisco Giants in AT&T park can get even bigger scarfing down vegetarian pot stickers, Gardenburgers, and broccoli tofu platters. And the Seattle Mariners at Safeco Field hit home runs with their veggie sushi.

Press conference for the 17th Life Ball 2009 in ViennaPamela Anderson is a work hard, play hard kind of gal and she proved this recently while attending the Vienna’s Life Ball AIDS event with other celebrities like Katy Perry, Bill Clinton, and Eva Longoria.

Before heading off to the ball, Pamela found time to chat with Austria’s justice minister, Claudia Bandion-Ortner about animal rights and free speech. It appears Austrian police are attempting to classify animal rights groups as criminals. When Pamela heard this news, she wrote a letter to Bandion-Ortner, asking for her assistance to prevent the potential censure of free speech.

The justice minister then invited Pamela to spend some quality one on one time with her, where she assured Pamela, she’d monitor the situation closely.

It helps to know people in high places.

“I wanted to do a take on awkward moments, which seems to be something most vegans have encountered at some stage of dating. With entertainment, people won’t shun away.”

Ok, vegans, it’s time to let loose. Tell us all your horror and humorous stories you’ve encountered while dating. Did you spend the first three dates answering food questions? Prince charming try to sneak meat in your food at the dinner table?

Diane Keaton Can Have Chinese Chicken And Fake Meat It Too

Written by Vegetarian Star on Thursday, May 21st, 2009 in Actresses, Business, Food & Drink.

15th Annual Women In Hollywood Event - Inside

Diane Keaton recently gave an interview with DesMoinesregister.com while eating a “Chinese chicken salad without the chicken.”

When you take the meat off salads with “meaty” names, you’re usually left with rabbit leaves-no dried fruit, nuts, beans or any other delicious additions a veggie salad would include.

Sounds pretty bland, but ’cause Diane’s veg, she had to get her salad sin pollo.

Wonder if she knows she can have her Chinese Chicken flavor and (fake) meat it too?

Famous veg Doc Dr. John McDougall has a line of soups out and one of his low sodium delights is Chinese Chicken Noodle Soup. A description from Rightfoods.com says, “Tasty sesame, ginger and green onions give this vegetarian Chinese Noodle Soup a delicious Asian flair. Only 1 g fat, 140 calories and 360 mg sodium.”

Chinese Chicken Noodle Soup, as well as every McDougall soup, is vegan and available on the shelves at your local grocery. You can also order online.

Poor Diane. Someone’s gotta tell her to ditch the rabbit leaves and go for the faux real Chinese Chicken next time.
