Laura Linney

Laura Linney had the privilege of working with vegan actress Alicia Silverstone during the run of the play Time Stands Still. The old saying that a vegan rubs off on everyone must be true, because Linney revealed in the August 2010 print edition of Prevention magazine that Silverstone and her vegan cookbook, The Kind Diet, have changed her eating patterns.

“I love Alicia – she had an enormous influence on me. I burst with pride over her book [The Kind Diet]. And she said, “You don’t have to be one thing or the other, just figure out what’s best for you.” I had been so rigid in my thinking about if I was going to be a vegetarian, if I was going to be a vegan. I don’t have to put that pressure on myself. I”m just trying to learn what the best diet is for me.”

Pamela Anderson "All Animals Have The Same Parts" PETA

Pamela Anderson has been banned in her own home country!

When the vegetarian actress requested permission to debut her new PETA ad in the city of Montreal, officials gave her the thumbs down because of the partial nudity. The ad, shown here, reads, All Animals Have The Same Parts. Have a Heart. Go Vegetarian. Anderson’s “parts” are divided into breast, rump, ribs, legs, etc. showing where similar cuts of animal meat comes from.

Anderson will still be able to debut the ad Thursday evening, but it will be without the city’s blessing, as officials say it has hints of sexism in it.

“On one hand we’re working for an organization where we’re getting reminded on a daily basis that we should work in a sexism-free environment and that equality between men and women and the image of women is very important,” said Montreal film commissioner Daniel Bissonnette, who denied the permit.

Pamela Anderson

It may be hard to picture a glamorous actress like Pamela Anderson picking up poo, but it’s all a labor of love for the former Baywatch star, vegetarian and animal rights activist.

Anderson gives her time to the California Wildlife Center in Santa Monica, California, where her duties include feeding baby owls and making good use of the pooper scooper.

Anderson told UK’s Fabulous magazine, “I clean out all the poop in the birdcages and feed all the little owls – the baby ones – with frozen mice parts. Occasionally a little frozen paw or ear will fall off!”

Ashley Greene

There will never be an end to the discussion as to why vegan Ellen DeGeneres chose to represent Cover Girl, a cosmetics company that still tests on animals. But now there’s another famous face setting an example by fronting a beauty campaign for a brand that’s well established and cruelty-free.

Ashley Greene has signed on to be the face of Avon. Her new gig doesn’t involve resisting cravings of human or animal blood because Avon was the first major cosmetics company to end animal testing on both on its finished product and ingredients in 1989. For this, PETA gives Greene a vegan cookie.

Ok, so the men aren’t totally naked. But close enough.

Betty White can be found soaking up the good life in a new calendar that will benefit the Morris Animal Foundation, an organization she has supported and worked with for almost 50 years that conducts research related to animal well being, such as helping more dogs get adopted by developing quick, efficient behavioral test that predicts compatibility with a home.

The 2011 Betty White Calendar contains archive photos, as well as current ones of White posing with animals–both two and four legged.

The calendar is $12.99 and goes on sale in September.

Jenna Dewan Tatum, wife of Channing Tatum, looks a little weird and creepy is this faux snakeskin outfit while posing in a PETA ad meant to educate on the use of exotic snake skins in the fashion industry. Likewise, anyone who wears such attire should be aware they look just as ridiculous–unless they’re a serpent.

Jenna described how she felt when she learned how snakes are killed for their skins.

“They actually club them over the head. And they’re not even dead yet and then they start to skin them.” Jenna said “it was so awful” to see the snakes squirming in pain.

An exclusive interview Jenna conducted with PETA can be viewed below.

“I love Loyale! I wear their tops a lot, and they have great everyday pieces, which I just adore. Bahar Shahpar has beautiful skirts and dresses. Other labels I like are Organic by John Patrick (another great label for everyday pieces), Linda Loudermilk (the mother of green design can be very inventive), and EcoSkin for casual dresses.  For shoes, I love Beyond Skin, they have a wonderfully huge selection of shoes, I specifically love the vintage-y looking pieces. Olsenhaus is a new line I’m just loving. I’m obsessed with the holographic shoes! And then of course, Stella McCartney is the first big designer not to use leather. Her shoes are expensive but so worth it. They’re very well-made. Also, Cri de Coeur makes some great boots.”
