Not long ago, we told you about Twilight’s Robert Pattinson mentioning he had a conversation about veggie burgers with Hayley Williams from Paramore.

Rob was taken aback by the name “Garden Burger” because he thought it sounded like a burger growing in the dirt.

Here’s the video of Rob and Hayley talking about Twilight. Hayley brings up Gardenburgers around minute 3:45.

The cool thing about it is that Hayley was surprised when she thought Rob didn’t like veggie burgers. Does that mean Hayley’s got a box of Gardenburgers in the freezer?

Jesse McCartney Makes Monkey Of Himself With PETA

Written by Vegetarian Star on Friday, April 3rd, 2009 in Actors, Male Singers, Not So Vegetarian.

The Cinema Society & Details Host The After Party For I Love You, Man

Sounds like something straight from a Fear Factor episode.

Pop singer Jesse McCartney was visiting Asia recently when he decided to fully immerse himself in the culture, trying one of the local delicacies of monkey brain.

Apparently, it wasn’t  the best meal he’d had. It was missing a little bit of salt and pepper.

“It was a little chewy and a little bland,” McCartney said. “It could have been seasoned a little bit more to tell you the truth.”

The only “icious” way to describe that meal would be “gagalicious.” We’re sorry if you’re reading this while eating lunch at your desk.

When PETA found about about Jesse monkeying around, Spokesman Michael McGraw said in a statement, “You’d have to be bananas to eat monkey flesh, or any meat. When it comes to the ability to feel pain and suffer, a monkey is no different from chickens, cows and pigs. All animals deserve respect, which is why PETA promotes a vegetarian diet.”

Ed Begley Jr. Gets Legally Green

Written by Vegetarian Star on Thursday, April 2nd, 2009 in Actors, Environment-Eco-Green.

Opening Night For Spamalot At The Wynn Las Vegas - Arrivals

No, it’s not a sequel to the popular Reese Witherspoon Legally Blonde movie.

The green law firm Gardere Wynne Sewell invited Ed Begley Jr. to their 100th anniversary celebration.

The firm is involved with many environmentally friendly initiatives from greening its IT department to planting trees around cities.

“Ed was a hit with our attorneys, staff and clients, and it was fun to have a bit of Hollywood at Gardere,” said Stephen Good, the firm’s managing partner.

“His visit opened many minds to the idea of being green change agents. That is part of why we established the Gardere Green initiative in the first place — not only to do our part but to help others join in.”

Ed’s message for the day was that everyone can do their part to help the environment.

And boy, did Gardere Wynne Sewell do their part that day.

Most food was vegetarian, which reportedly even the carnivorous (maybe those are the injury) attorneys didn’t mind. The selection of vegan and gluten-free items were abundant and the food was purchased locally.

The event was also held at an LEED certified building featuring carpet and conference room chairs made from recycled material.

A scruffy Jared Leto heads home after dining at West Hollywoods Katsuya restaurant

Jared Leto was spotted hanging out at LA hot spot Bardot and enjoying some late night vegan grub!

A source said the actor and rocker, “chilled in the lounge with a couple of buddies.”

If you recall us telling you, Leto played the role of spider rescuer at a party for Proposition 2 that Olivia Wilde attended. When a huge, black spider was aiming for musician Moby’s head during his performance, Leto didn’t hesitate to rush in and, instead of killing it, place it back on the ground.

Speaking of bars, how easy is it to find good vegan grub there? A bar in Hollywood may be more likely to have vegan fare, but everywhere else? Have you been able to find good veg food at 2:00 AM to munch on while you sip your vegan Heineken?

Ed Begley Jr. Recounts His Early Environmental, Vegetarian Days

Written by Vegetarian Star on Monday, March 30th, 2009 in Actors, Environment-Eco-Green.

18th Annual Environmental Media Awards

It’s no secret that environmentalism and vegetarian go hand in hand, and what other Hollywood star to demonstrate this than Ed Begley, Jr. After all, it is his name Bones actress Emily Deschanel screams in the dark in the name of saving energy.

He recently discussed his motivations for going green as well as vegetarian.

You’ve been green before green became trendy. What made you decide to get involved in sustainable living?
It was growing up in smoggy L.A. I started in 1970 because I’d lived for 20 years, from 1949-1970, with horrible, choking smog and I got fed up with it one day. I wanted to be part of the solution rather than part of the problem. So I bought an electric car for $950, started recycling, composting, I rode my bike, took the bus, shut out the lights, turned off the water. I did as many things as I could on a very modest budget. What happened next I didn’t count on. I was doing it for the environment and realized I was saving money. I was a broke actor in 1970 and couldn’t afford fancy solar panels or something like that, so I just did cheap stuff and I realized I was saving dough. I liked that, obviously. Who doesn’t like that? And I did more and I saved more dough, and so 39 years late, I’m still doing it.

I read that you are a vegetarian. Was becoming a vegetarian something you did prior to green living, or was it a part of it?
It was part of the whole environmental choice. It was a 1970 choice to be green, to eat lower on the food chain. I had heard it was better for the environment. It took less water, less land, less energy to grow 1 pound of broccoli than a pound of beef. So, for that reason, and in a humane world, the kinds of things that go on in slaughterhouses. It’s not like the old days of raising cows out in a pasture and I’m sorry Bessie but you’ve got to die so we can live. It’s not like that anymore. It’s very bad conditions in these factory farms. The hogs, chickens, cows and I don’t want to be a part of that. But for my own health, I thought it was better to eat a plant based diet. I’m going to be 60 soon and I have boundless energy and I feel really good so I’m all for it.

Jennifer Aniston Goes Vegan: Eats Chips, Quits, And Complains

Written by Vegetarian Star on Friday, March 27th, 2009 in Actors, Actresses, TV Hosts.

UK Film Premiere : Marley And Me - Arrivals

If you keep up with the vegetarian celebrity news like we do, you know some of them have a tendency to flip flop between being veggie and eating meat, cough, cough, Anne Hathaway. So if you were in the business of predicting which celebrities would go veg/go meat/go veg, would you be a good forecaster?

Adam Kochanowicz, a vegan Examiner writer in Omaha, Nebraska thinks he can, and currently he’s got a “vegan pool” going, where he chooses which celebrities will go vegan and which will give it up, embarrassing vegans everywhere.

Jennifer Aniston, Matt Damon, and Barack Obama are all likely to go vegan. But Aniston is one who could potentially embarrass the vegans once she quits.

“Honestly, she seems like the kind of person to go vegan, eat chips and ramen, then quit and publicize how terrible it was,” Kochanowicz said.

A couple of celebrities predicted to give up vegan are Natalie Portman and Oprah Winfrey (ahem, once she goes back to vegan).

Oprah follows a new fad every other week, so although she might take up the diet and lifestyle again, there’s a good chance she’ll hear about something that gives her an excuse to give it up.

We’d have to disagree with Natalie Portman, since she seems like such an ethical vegan, making the decision to go vegetarian at a young age for ethical reasons as well. A Harvard graduate, Natalie is much too intelligent to be swayed that easily. Sorry, Adam. We think you’re wrong on that one!
