“Betty Goes Vegan”–Betty Crocker Recipes Go Plant-Based

A few years ago, Dan and Annie Shannon decided to adapt every recipe from the classic Betty Crocker Cookbook to remove all the meat, dairy, egg and other animal products.

After hundreds of experiments in their kitchen, the Shannons have finally put the finishing touches on each of the recipes and created Betty Goes Vegan: 500 Classic Recipes for the Modern Family.

“The Betty Crocker brand has a well deserved reputation as being the very best at teaching American amateur chefs how to use products and ingredients to their full potential,” Annie said in a 2010 interview with Kiss Me, I’m Vegan. “When we were putting together this project, we really wanted to help people see how easy it is to be vegan, and that you really can make anything vegan once you know the tricks.”

Taco Bell Ad Mocking Vegetarians Pulled From Superbowl (Video)

Taco Bell has voluntarily pulled an advertisement that was to run during Superbowl XLVII on Sunday.

The ad pokes fun of vegetarians and veggie lovers in general, hinting that anyone would wants to crunch on celery and dip doesn’t belong at the bowl.

“Veggies on game day is like punting on fourth and one — it’s a cop out,” the voice on the commercial says.

“Secretly, people will kinda hate you for it.”

He’s a popular cat with a growing following on Instagram and a soon to be up and running website, Sam Has Eyebrows.

Sam’s human-like appearance is probably responsible for much of his newfound popularity online, as a cat with an expression similar to the next door neighbor is likely to elicit more fondness from other humans. (As long as they like that next door neighbor.)

Casey Affleck Pushes MA Prevention Of Farm Animal Cruelty Act

Casey Affleck is backing a new initiative to improve the living conditions of millions of animals living on farms.

The Massachusetts Prevention of Farm Animal Cruelty Act asks Congress to pass a law, “prohibiting veal crates, gestation crates, and battery cages, generally used to confine chickens.

Affeck wrote a letter on behalf of three animal welfare organziations–Farm Sanctuary, the ASPCA, and the Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals–advocating this change.

Tobey Maguire’s visit to Australia to film The Great Gatsby has inspired one vegan chef to open her own vegetarian butcher shop.

Suzy Spoon was Maguire’s personal chef while completing the film.

Spoon’s Vegetarian Butcher was co-founded with Chris Moses and carries a variety of faux meat products created by Spoon as well as other vegetarian companies in the area.
