Bobby Deen

Bobby Deen was in the city of Chicago last month to participate in a Diabetes in a New Light cooking demonstration at the American Diabetes Association Expo.

In a feature in Shore Magazine, Deen explained that eating healthy doesn’t mean sacrificing taste, even if you had dietary restrictions. His mother’s weight loss and health transformation after learning of her Type 2 diabetes is a perfect example of this. While Paula hasn’t gone all veggie on her fans yet, she has definitely learned to replace the butter and bacon with healthier oils and greens.

“New York and Jerusalem are tied for my favorite city, but I tend to do more family and friends hanging out when I go there, so I don’t know if it feels like a vacation so much. In New York, I eat at as many vegan restaurants as I can. In Jerusalem, I recommend doing everything the tour books tell you to! I don’t tend to go on fancy vacations at all when I’m planning it or paying, but I love camping in the Angeles Crest Forest above Los Angeles and I also love the Julian area inland from San Diego.”

Mayim Bialik, on some of her favorite vacation spots where she’s guaranteed to find good food in addition to a good hotel package. Comfort vegan food is a must have to calm her down on a flight, in addition to lavender essentail oil, ear plugs and her iPod.

“Yes, I put milk in my coffee in the morning,” Bittman said. “Real vegans don’t, but I’m not a real vegan….On strict days, [I eat] no dairy, no animal products at all, no processed food, no white food like white rice, pasta, bread, etc..”
