Jonathan Safran Foer

Jonathan Safran Foer sat down with A.V. Club to discuss all the things he’s considered an expert on–food, vegetarianism, farming and animal welfare.

The author of Eating Animals did a great job of touching on many questions that arise when the idea of eating vegetarian is brought up, including the price of food, humane labels and why your family that lives in a town of 500 people still declares World War III when you refuse to eat turkey at Thanksgiving.

A few highlights below:

On that meat eater defensiveness:
The reason people have such strong opinions about it is, we can’t help but think that our response to these questions has something to do with what kind of a person we are. I think it’s because whatever conclusions you reach—and I think there are lots of different respectable conclusions one can reach—everyone recognizes that this is a big deal. It matters.

Nicki Minaj

It’s that time again when celebrities come out in public wearing their finest in meat attire.

Nicki Minaj sported a faux chicken necklace from Onch (the same company that manufactured a meat necklace after Lady Gaga made that trend famous) at the IHeart Radio Festival.

If you aren’t totally knocked off your feet from this piece of must have fashion, perhaps you should opt for Onch’s bacon necklace instead.

Or not.

Stella McCartney Discusses Vegetarian Upbringing

Written by Vegetarian Star on Tuesday, September 27th, 2011 in Fashion, Food & Drink.

Stella McCartney spoke to The Daily Beast about growing in the vegetarian McCartney family and how it’s inspired her life today.

“It began with my parents,” Stella said. “It’s more than just saying that we’re vegetarians. It’s a philosophy of how you conduct your life and time on the planet. We were quite a responsible family. One of the things I was taught growing up was, “Do unto others as you would have done to yourself.” So it’s not just about not killing cattle and “Meat-Free Monday.” It’s a way of life. But we’re not claiming to be perfect.”

Stella continues to promote the values she grew up with by refusing to use leather or fur in her fashion collections, sourcing sustainable materials when possible and donating a portion of sales from some of her fashions to the family’s Meat-Free Monday campaign.
