Willis McGahee Chooses Ink, Not Mink

Men, if you want your girlfriends and wives to get into watching sports with you, just petition the NFL, NBA and other professional sports organizations to ban clothing during game time.

NFL running back Willis McGahee stars in this anti-fur ad for People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals. He joins a long list of celebrities showing off their tattoos for the animal rights group’s ads that advocate ink over mink and other types of fur.

“I don’t think they understand where it comes from or how they treat the animal to get the fur,” McGahee says in a behind the scenes interview with PETA, referring to the discussion that sparks when he sees other celebrities wearing fur and some of the methods in which fur is obtained, such as electrocution or skinning them alive.

It’s nice to have vegetarian or vegan options at the cafeteria at work, but it’s also comforting to know you won’t have to dip into your company health insurance plan to get your mouth fixed after biting into something.

Giveaway–Gardein Faux Meat Products!

Written by Vegetarian Star on Wednesday, January 26th, 2011 in Food & Drink, Giveaways, Recipes.

It’s been awhile since we gave something away. We’ve been too busy munching on crispy faux chicken fingers and mock beef tips in burgundy sauce.

Vegetarian Star is giving away 2 coupons for a free Gardein product, which you can find at stores like Kroger, Whole Foods and Safeway. To find a Gardein carrying establishment near you, visit this form.

To enter, simply leave a comment on this post telling us why you want to win.

The coupon is for any product you’d like, but we’re partial to the chicken fingers (which look like something you’d find in a basket at TGIF) or the Burgundy Trio, which is reminiscent of beef stew and rice without the factory farmed cow who keeps farting and contributing to methane gases.

Contest starts today and ends Tuesday, Februrary 1, 2011 at midnight Pacific Time. The two winners will be chosen randomly and notified via email within 72 hours of contest end date.

Gardein carries vegan fresh and frozen faux meats like chicken, barbecue wings, beefless tips and whole meals featuring mock meat, rice and veggies. Want a recipe idea? Check out Gardein’s recipe for faux bbq chik’n pizza below.

In-N-Out Secret Vegetarian Menu And Oatmeal Tacos (Video)

Written by Vegetarian Star on Tuesday, January 25th, 2011 in Business, Food & Drink, Restaurants, Videos.

In-N-Out supposedly has a secret menu that is not so secret.

Okay.

After Patch discussed their experiences with ordering off the covert menu, CNN repeated the experiment to see if they could get world class customer service by ordering and receiving items like, “Flying Dutchman,” “Rootbeer Float,” and “Animal Style Fries.”

It worked.

On that secret menu includes a veggie burger, which isn’t really a burger, but vegetables between a bun. There’s also a grilled cheese–basically the same as the veggie burger but the cheese is melted.

Not bad for a fast food establishment. But can we do better? In the words of the current U.S. president, “Yes, we can!”
