Dennis Kucinich Settles Over Olive Pit Induced Tooth Injury

Written by Vegetarian Star on Friday, January 28th, 2011 in Food & Drink, Politicians.

Dennis Kucinich

Dennis Kucinich and his people have reached a confidential settlement in the matter of damages sustained after he bit into an olive containing a pit during a visit to the House of Representatives cafeteria for a sandwich.

After reading more about the chain reaction the event set off, it’s easy to see why the vegan politician asked for $150,000 for the incident.

After biting into the olive, Kucinich experienced a split at the bone level of the tooth. The damage wasn’t visible but downright painful! The injured area became infected so he took antibiotics. The antibiotics gave him an intestinal obstruction which required emergency attention. After the bone healed, his first tooth implant failed. Months later, the second implant worked, but he had to have six other teeth realigned in order to make that happen. None of this was covered by insurance.

Robin Quivers Stuffs Portobello–The Veg Man’s Meat (Video)

Written by Vegetarian Star on Friday, January 28th, 2011 in Food & Drink, Recipes, Videos.

The portabello mushroom is the vegetarian man’s (and woman’s meat). Even a carnivore can’t resist a thick cap grilled to perfection and topped with onions, tomatoes, peppers and other veggies while simultaneously wedged between a warm loaf like focaccia.

Robin Quivers from “The Howard Stern Show” continues her journey in learning to cook new vegan dishes on her web-based show, “Vegucating Robin,” by stuffing portabello with herbed quinoa.

Yum!

She and co-host Gavan Murphy have nicknamed this the vegan meat of vegans.

Grab the recipe here.

“Harry’s Law” Raticide And Humane Mouse Trap Alternative (Video)

Written by Vegetarian Star on Friday, January 28th, 2011 in Animal Issues, Film & TV, Videos.

What do you get when you take an ex-corporate attorney who starts up a practice in an old shoe store in the middle of a seedy neighborhood?

A perfect lesson on humane mouse traps!

Of course that was your first answer.

“Harry’s Law” is a new NBC drama starring Kathy Bates as a former patent attorney fired from her old firm and forced to start over solo. During the pilot, we learn she’s started a practice in a store where the previous evicted tenant left more than hundreds of shoes behind. There is a rat problem!

Bate’s character Harriet Korn is a gun-toting granny, so she whips out the pistol one day and the rat problem is gone, advising an associate she  took care of the problem and it’s time to “call PETA,” after doing so.

Sure, you may have read the headlines that Natalie Portman‘s ring was $35,000. But you don’t need to use a year’s salary to afford a similar ring that’s certified conflict-free and uses recycled materials. Gino D' Acampo

Chef Gino D’ Acampo promised ITV’s “This Morning” that if they won an award, he’d cook naked on television.

Some promises are okay if broken. Really.

But D’Acampo kept his, and made gammon in the buff, the NSFW video below also revealing his special “sock” he took off, along with his apron, to really stay true to his word.

A naked Gino isn’t so bad, but he might have been hotter whipping up a plant-based Italian meal instead. We know factory farming is unhealthy for the environment, animals and people, and a film titled Pig Business examining the state of the pork industry in the UK illustrates this.

The Los Angeles school systems aren’t letting Jamie Oliver into their kitchens like he was able to do during his last filming of Jamie Oliver’s Revolution, a show where he tried to improve the eating habits of people in a small West Virginia town.

But that isn’t stopping him from using educational props to make a production about the quality of beverages available to students.
