Nestle examines various pet food diets from dry, canned, wet, semi-most, premium, all-natural, and yes, the vegetarian and vegan.

Nestle sat down with Time Magazine to discuss the book, where she gave her take on veggie dogs and cats.

“Cats are carnivorous, but there’s plenty of research that shows they’re perfectly capable of digesting grains, as long as they also get the amino acids, vitamins and minerals they need. Dogs are fine with grains too. In fact, most complete and balanced pet-food products contain grains.”

He highlights recent studies demonstrating that higher levels of organophosphates in a child’s urine is associated with higher levels of ADHD.

“That doesn’t prove cause and effect, but it’s a powerful and alarming correlation and a pretty good argument for trying to keep these things out of your children’s body.”

Singer Jessica Simpson is all smiles as she steps out to dinner at Abe and Arthur's in New York City, New York for over 5 hours on Tuesday June 22, 2010. Fame Pictures, Inc

Jessica Simpson‘s Tweets about veganism appear to be more than just a passing phase.

The actress and singer not only likes Earth Balance vegan butter and tofu, she’s gone all the way with a new vegan diet.

“Shocked my system with a vegan diet, special Pu-erh tea from China, and cupping since friday! Who am I right now? This might be too clean!”

Simpson wouldn’t be the first celebrity to try out the veggie lifestyle, for diet or health reasons. And there are more than enough Hollywood starlets who go veg, quit, and bad mouth the experience.

Crossing our fingers Jessica stays in love with an animal-free diet longer than she did with Nick Lachey.

West Virginia Senator Robert Byrd has died at the age of 92, after a brief hospitalization.

According to PETA’s blog, the Democratic congressman was a voice for animals as well as people. He helped convince the Senate Appropriations Committee to put $5 million toward enforcing the Humane Slaughter Act, and just a year earlier, had given a speech about the horrors he saw in factory farms.

“Our inhumane treatment of livestock is becoming widespread and more and more barbaric. Six-hundred-pound hogs—they were pigs at one time—raised in 2-foot-wide metal cages called gestation crates, in which the poor beasts are unable to turn around or lie down in natural positions, and this way they live for months at a time. … These creatures feel; they know pain. They suffer pain just as we humans suffer pain.”
