Michael Pollan sat down for an interview with MSNBC’s Lifeline to discuss the benefits of organic food.
He highlights recent studies demonstrating that higher levels of organophosphates in a child’s urine is associated with higher levels of ADHD.
“That doesn’t prove cause and effect, but it’s a powerful and alarming correlation and a pretty good argument for trying to keep these things out of your children’s body.”
Pollan, author of The Omnivore’s Dilemma and an advocate for eating less meat, also advocates eating local as much as possible. Besides being less harmful on the body, Pollan discusses the investment of keeping pesticides out of the soil and water supply and the implications for hormones in food items like milk that have been linked to early puberty in young girls.
These benefits, along with others, are just a few of the reasons Pollan says organic is worth the cost.
