Kraft Nabisco Championship - Round Three

Michelle Wie isn’t scare of anything, whether its the golf course or the kitchen.

The golfer who was named by Time magazine as one of “100 people that shape our world,” Wie experiments with different creative hobbies that include painting, sewing clothes and making her own recipes for vegan cookies and muffins.

“Basically, I started to love trying things,” Wie said, to the New York Times, “instead of before, I was scared of trying new things.”

Can we get a vegan cookie and muffin cookbook from the Ladies Professional Golf Association tour member?

Sure hope she makes it one of the new things to try on her list!

Prince Fielder Power Contributes To Perfect Baseball Player

Written by Vegetarian Star on Saturday, April 3rd, 2010 in Athletes-Games-Sports.

All Star Game

What does it take to genetically engineer the perfect baseball player?

Bleacher Report attempted to reconstruct the ideal player using several athletes selling points.

Take Ken Griffy’s Jr.’s swing.

Add Carl Crawford’s speed.

Don’t forget Prince Fielder‘s power, maintained by not a ounce of animal flesh.

“Prince Fielder is the biggest, most powerful vegetarian I have ever laid eyes on. For his career he averages a homer every 14.8 at bats. At the age of 23 he was the youngest player in baseball history to ever hit 50 home runs in a season. Bottom line: This dude is powerful.”

Fielder  has his wife to thank for turning him vegetarian, after she picked up a copy of best selling book Skinny Bitch for homework.

Eva Mendes Fond Memories Of PETA Anti Fur Letter

Written by Vegetarian Star on Saturday, April 3rd, 2010 in Actresses, Fur.

Missoni Celebrates the Opening of the Beverly Hills Missoni Boutique

Ah, everybody remembers when they received their first letter from PETA asking “Why the hell are you wearing fur?”

Eva Mendes can still recall the year 2003 when she was approached by the group after wearing a fur shawl to the premier of “Stuck on You.”

“You’re an up-and-coming star, and a lot of people are looking at you,” the letter read. “We noticed you were wearing fur and we wanted to bring this to your attention.”

Not only did Eva stop wearing fur, she posed in one of PETA’s anti-fur campaigns and has changed her diet to “mostly vegetarian.”

As the group celebrates 30 years of activism, it’s comforting to know that although fur is being seen as a trend for the fall and winter of 2010 on fashion runways, people in the real world aren’t putting them in their closets.

The Province reports that U.S. mink imports were down 30% in 2009 versus 2008. Demand for alligator and crocodile hides used in handbags and boots dropped 40% worldwide from the first quarter of 2008 to the same quarter of 2009, according to the Associated Press. And last year, the New York Times reported that the U.S. alligator farming business is also on the decline.

Retailers like H&M and Overstock.com have stopped selling exotic skins and designers like Donna Karan, Tommy Hilfiger and Calvin Klein have also pledged to stop using fur in their designs.

To all the activists, PETA supporting or not, congratulations on a job well done and keep it up for the future!

Janet Jackson Wants Her Vegan Cookies And Soy Milk

Written by Vegetarian Star on Saturday, April 3rd, 2010 in Actresses, Female Singers, Food & Drink.

Janet Jackson & Malik Yoba Visit BET's 106 & Park

Janet Jackson dabbled into the acting world with Tyler Perry‘s “Why Did I Get Married Too?” and she’ll be once again taking to the screen in another one of Perry’s films, “For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When the Rainbow Is Enuf.”

Growing up in Indiana, she never had the guts to get into acting in school and then her music career took off, leaving her with little time to pursue other interests until now.

Having already won a Grammy, she’s now ready to aim for an Oscar.

But which one does she prefer?

“That’s like asking if I’d rather have my vegan cookies or my soy milk. I want it all,” Jackson told Chicago Sun Times.

Mmm…is that what she’s sharing on the set of Perry’s next film?

Maybe she can convince him to make a movie to the likes of “Don’t Bring Meat To Madea’s Family Reunion.”

Aldo Zilli Restaurant Zilli Green Gets One Of Five Carrots

Written by Vegetarian Star on Friday, April 2nd, 2010 in Business, Food & Drink, Restaurants.

Celebrity Chefs Launch Taste Of London 2007

Aldo Zilli‘s vegetarian Italian restaurant, Zilli Green, open a couple of months ago and after Metro sampled the food, atmosphere and service, it came up a little less than satisfied.

Zilli Green was given a (ouch) 1 out of 5 stars for everything from cold tempura and portabello mushroom to ignorant service.

Metro hints that you can get vegetarian Italian food anywhere that serves Italian, presumably by leaving the meatballs off.

“Some of the best meat-free cooking in the world is Italian; you can easily eat an entirely vegetarian meal in a conventional Italian restaurant without even being aware of it.”

Zilli Green may be a little shaker in its infancy, but it is only two months old, and like any business, there’s probably several details to work out.

Not only is Zilli Green giving London a vegetarian Italian option, but there are several items on the menu listed as vegan, such as ice cream.

And despite having pasta shops on every corner, some specifically vegetarian and even vegan Italian eateries have worked, as the case with Chrissie Hynde‘s Vegiterranean in the U.S.

Might it be reasonable for more Soho vegetarians to give Zilli Green a try and let the staff politely know where improvements can be made?

Woody Harrelson Turned Vegan From A Bus Ride

Written by Vegetarian Star on Friday, April 2nd, 2010 in Actors, Food & Drink.

82nd Annual Academy Awards - Arrivals

We’ve heard this one before.

Woody Harrelson was on a bus, full of mucus, acne and sinus issues.

A woman on the bus tells him to stop eating that cheese stuff, he takes her advice and his skin and upper respiratory system live happily ever after.

Harrelson told Hustler,”When I was 23, 24, I used to have a really bad runny nose, mucus, tons of acne, reddishness all over. A woman on a bus I took looked at me and said I was lactose intolerant.”

“(She said), ‘Stop dairy for three days, and all this is going to go away.’ I stopped dairy, and sure enough it was gone three days later, never to return except when I get dairy accidentally.”

Just last year, Harrelson told Maxim a similar story.

“I was about 24 years old and I had tons of acne and mucus. I met some random girl on a bus who told me to quit dairy and all those symptoms would go away three days later. By God she was right.”

Apparently this advice is golden enough to be talked about within a six month time frame.

It’s gotta be a must try!

Any former dairy heads out there who gave it up in exchange for a baby bottom’s smooth face?

Oprah Magazine Live Your Best Walk Benefits Animal Sanctuary

German Erotic Magazine Sues Oprah''s "O" Magazine

O, The Oprah Magazine has named Best Friends Animal Society one of the 10 non profit organizations that will benefit from its Live Your Best walk on May 9.

Best Friends Animal Society is the nation’s largest shelter for abused and abandoned animals.

Given the fact that Oprah herself was named Person of the Year for her contribution to animals by featuring adoption and factory farm segments on her show, it’s no surprise an animal organization made the top 10 cut.

The Live Your Best walk is part of a three day celebration in New York to commemorate the magazine’s 10th anniversary.

Has it really been that long?

Hats off to The Oprah Magazine for celebrating its success by giving animals a chance at some.
