It’s not certain if Alanis attended the Juno awards banquet which featured some nice vegetarian options.

Alanis was know for going back and forth between vegin’ and meatin’ when she finally made the decision to go veg all the way and become vegan after reading Eat toLive by Dr. Joel Fuhrman, a physician who’s worked with Physician’s Committee For Responsible Medicine.

Congratulations Alanis. Hope the diet’s still working for you. Ain’t nothing like a celebration with vegan cake!

Ed Begley Jr. Gets Legally Green

Written by Vegetarian Star on Thursday, April 2nd, 2009 in Actors, Environment-Eco-Green.

Opening Night For Spamalot At The Wynn Las Vegas - Arrivals

No, it’s not a sequel to the popular Reese Witherspoon Legally Blonde movie.

The green law firm Gardere Wynne Sewell invited Ed Begley Jr. to their 100th anniversary celebration.

The firm is involved with many environmentally friendly initiatives from greening its IT department to planting trees around cities.

“Ed was a hit with our attorneys, staff and clients, and it was fun to have a bit of Hollywood at Gardere,” said Stephen Good, the firm’s managing partner.

“His visit opened many minds to the idea of being green change agents. That is part of why we established the Gardere Green initiative in the first place — not only to do our part but to help others join in.”

Ed’s message for the day was that everyone can do their part to help the environment.

And boy, did Gardere Wynne Sewell do their part that day.

Most food was vegetarian, which reportedly even the carnivorous (maybe those are the injury) attorneys didn’t mind. The selection of vegan and gluten-free items were abundant and the food was purchased locally.

The event was also held at an LEED certified building featuring carpet and conference room chairs made from recycled material.

Joe Biden Gets A+ On Humane Society Pro-Animal Report Card

Written by Vegetarian Star on Thursday, April 2nd, 2009 in Animal Issues, Politicians.

Biden swears-in Kirk as US Trade Rep in Washington

The Humane Society Legislative Fund has a list just like Santa that its checking more than twice. And every nice or naughty politician will have to answer how their actions contributed to animal welfare.

The Humane Scorecard Booklet is designed to let everyone know where politicians stand on animal rights.

The Scorecard currently shows the 110th Congress “made significant progress on animal protection legislation, including banning the import of puppies from foreign breeding mills, strengthening the federal law on animal fighting, and providing safeguards against tainted ingredients in pet food.”

Several government officials received a score of a “1oo+” including  Barbara Boxer (Calif.), Diane Feinstein (Calif.), John Kerry (Mass.), Carl Levin (Mich.), and vice president Joe Biden.

Politicians earn points on the scorecard through several measures involving either voting or taking action against animal rights. Those earning the highest ratings of 100+  were the prime sponsors of pro-animal legislation that became law. Points can also be earned through co-sponsorship of bills and boosting funding for the enforcement of animal welfare laws.

Biden racked up points for co-sponsoring bills against animal fighting and horse slaughter.

Check to see how your favorite politician scored this time around on The Humane Scorecard.

Carrie Underwood Haters Urging No Vote In Country Music Awards

Written by Vegetarian Star on Thursday, April 2nd, 2009 in Animal Issues, Female Singers.

51st Annual Grammy Awards - Press Room

When Carrie Underwood announced she was donating proceeds from the Idol elimination song she’s singing this year to the Humane Society of the United States, there was outcry from hunters and others in the animal agriculture industry.

The U.S. Sportsmen’s Alliance even urged hunters to contact Fox, demanding the station pull Carrie’s song from the show.

Unsuccessful at previous attempts to destroy the singer’s musical success, protesters are now asking people to go online and vote for anyone other than her in the Academy of Country Music’s (ACM) Entertainer of the Year category.

This is in response to the Humane Society cheering for Carrie and asking voters to pick her for the same award.

What do you predict will happen? Will Carrie’s loyal team gear up and recruit even more voters?
