Quantcast Vegetarian StarCarrie Underwood Haters Urging No Vote In Country Music Awards

51st Annual Grammy Awards - Press Room

When Carrie Underwood announced she was donating proceeds from the Idol elimination song she’s singing this year to the Humane Society of the United States, there was outcry from hunters and others in the animal agriculture industry.

The U.S. Sportsmen’s Alliance even urged hunters to contact Fox, demanding the station pull Carrie’s song from the show.

Unsuccessful at previous attempts to destroy the singer’s musical success, protesters are now asking people to go online and vote for anyone other than her in the Academy of Country Music’s (ACM) Entertainer of the Year category.

This is in response to the Humane Society cheering for Carrie and asking voters to pick her for the same award.

What do you predict will happen? Will Carrie’s loyal team gear up and recruit even more voters?

I think all the hateful comments about Carrie (and some are outright threatening her) on websites is only making Carrie fans more motivated to get out the vote! It’s a free country, and I for one am impressed with Carrie for sticking to what she believes in, regardless of some of the negative comments. It takes a strong woman to put up with the kind of crap she gets and I think she is just wonderful and a great role model for young women.
I especially like how she is not preachy about her beliefs, and how she is not set on changing peoples views. She is always respectful, which is a far cry from some of the people out campaigning against her. Yes she is a vegetarian, who supports the HSUS and is personally against hunting. But she is open minded enough to date someone who is an avid hunter and a meat eater in Mike Fisher of the Ottawa Senators. She’s a classy girl and I honestly think she deserves the EOTY award, she by far had the best year out of all the people nominated, and based on that she should win.

Carrie is just too likeable for something like this to affect her career. That’s the whole point-she was on American Idol for POP music, one of the hugest musical industries. She’s got plenty of fans outside of country and those in country music will continue to support her as well. This small group of people rallying against her represent the small dog big bark prototype. They talk a lot, but they are few. Go Carrie!

I think I read that Sandra Bernhard called this something like being, “Dixie-Chicked.” Remember all the craziness they put up with after an innocent comment about the president?

It’s sad people can be so fanatical and I hope Carrie never backs down.
