Vegetarian Gwyneth Paltrow Offers More Animal Flesh Recipes

Written by Vegetarian Star on Friday, December 19th, 2008 in Actresses, Not So Vegetarian.

The UK Premiere of Two Lovers

Gwyneth’s Paltrow’s vegetarianism these days is sort of like describing a prostitute’s puritanical traits. Yeah, there really aren’t many.

To make a long story short, the actress who claims to be “pretty much vegetarian”, has “pretty much” slept with the fur devil and given step by step instructions for making patties out of Tom Turkey these past few months. But she did abstained from ham. Always give credit when it’s due.

Her latest newsletter from her online site, Goop, features the, cough, cough, vegetarian giving meal hints for the holidays.

“I generally always make the same meal for Christmas as I do for Thanksgiving with a few exceptions…Since you can pull up the Thanksgiving MAKE from the archive if you’re doing Whole Roast Turkey, I thought I would do a delicious Hanukkah menu and a Christmas breakfast.”

“For Hanukkah I love a Whole Roasted Fish with Salsa Verde and with the addition of the Latkes, you get that wonderful crisp potato thing on the side; it’s very satisfying…”

“The biscuits are a healthier version of the good ole’ southern version but are just as tasty. You can scramble an egg, add one of the homemade sausages, stick ’em in the fresh warm biscuit and, to quote a line from the epic eighties film Sixteen Candles, “Wha-lah, breakfast is ready!”

Um, wha-lah, girlfriend, breakfast is soooo not vegetarian ready!

It isn’t so much that we are attacking someone for promoting so much meat (not that we haven’t done that before), but it’s the fact that Gwyneth has associated herself with being vegetarian, yet is choosing to focus on so many meat dishes lately. She could have at least suggested her vegan pancakes with that darn turkey sausage!

Rajneesh Duggal Finds France A Foe When Needing Meatless Food

Written by Vegetarian Star on Thursday, December 18th, 2008 in Actors, Bollywood, Food & Drink.

240_rajneeshMark Ruffalo isn’t the only actor to experience the horrors of finding good vegetarian food while traveling abroad.

Rajneesh Duggal, Bollywood actor who made his debut in the film, 1920, survived on steamed rice and vegetables for five days from a Chinese restaurant located across the street from the hotel he was staying in Paris, France, because he couldn’t find vegetarian food elsewhere.

But that’s nothing compared to his dining in experience with colleagues at an Italian/French cuisine restaurant.

Poor Duggal couldn’t find anything vegetarian on the menu.

“All my friends began ordering non-vegetarian food, while I was busy seeking for some vegetarian food in the menu, but all in vain. I was starving and seeing them enjoying the food made me even more hungry.”

His friends, who no doubt felt sorry for him as they chowed away on their meaty entrees, suggested he find something with eggs or fruit. Finally, after discussing with the waiter his problem, the restaurant chefs had specially made Banana crepes prepared.

Get The Jorja Fox Purse To Carry All Your Investigative Supplies

Written by Vegetarian Star on Thursday, December 18th, 2008 in Actresses, Fashion.

397px-jorjafoxvegad When you think of Jorja Fox, who played Sara Sidle on the CBS series “CSI: Crime Scene Investigation”, you think of her character as getting down and dirty: digging through dumpsters for evidence, feeling her way through a body cavity for a bullet, chalking down a crime scene.

She didn’t wear heels and a skirt for those scenes and most definitely wasn’t carrying a purse. But Matt & Nat, designer of vegan purses, know Jorja’s fans still like to get feminine without the leather, so they designed a series of purses named after her and come out with different designs every season. 1
Matt & Nat

Jorja is a vegetarian who has advocated the diet and lifestyle in order to help the environment.

The latest Jorja style, a vegan leather handbag, shown here, contains 100% recycled faux suede lining with interior pockets to put your cell phone or PDA in. Which you’ll need, of course, if out on the town and your boss calls you in to examine a skull found behind the restaurant you ate at last week.

Obama Move Over: Leona Lewis Shares Person Of The Year

Written by Vegetarian Star on Thursday, December 18th, 2008 in Female Musicians, Female Singers.

2008 American Music Awards - Press Room

Time magazine has declared 44th President elect Barack Obama as its 2008 Person of the Year. With the impact he’s made on election history, he’s probably deserving of it.

However, singer and “X Factor” winner Leona Lewis, has taken the crown in another, perhaps less known, person of the year contest held by the UK division of People for The Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA).

“Leona Lewis is admired for her beautiful voice, but it’s her kindness to animals that makes her a superstar in our book,” said PETA Europe Director Robbie LeBlanc.

Leona, a strict vegetarian since she was 12 years old, refuses to even wear animal products, such as fur and leather shoes. She’s so passionate about this, she’s talking with various suppliers to design her own line of vegan shoes and bags.

She made quite a statement earlier this year, turning down over a million dollars by refusing to sing at a Harrod’s department store seasonal sale opening because the store sold fur products.

The “Bleeding Love,” star is joining the hall of fame with other vegetarian celebrities, including last year’s winner,  fashion designer Stella McCartney, the daughter of ex-Beatles Paul McCartney.

Congratulations, Leona! We look forward to learning how you’ll be leading vegetarians in the upcoming year.

Ah, the female vegan rocker edition!

They both love vegan food and rock and roll. Granted, Chrissie has an advantage, since she can have her chefs whip up something gourmet and vegan at her restaurant and all. So who would you…

Oprah’s 40 Pound Solution: Come Back Over To The Vegan Side!

Written by Vegetarian Star on Wednesday, December 17th, 2008 in Actresses, TV Hosts.

17th Annual Women In Entertainment Power 100 Breakfast - Arrivals

Oprah has been in the news lately, talking about her weight gain of 40 pounds, saying she’s “embarrassed,” by the situation and “mad at herself.”

In her January issue of “O”, the magazine in which she always appears on the cover, she writes, “I’m mad at myself.  I didn’t just fall off the wagon. I let the wagon fall on me.”

Sounds like she could use the help of some vegan Skinny Bitches!

Someone needs to remind O that a vegan and vegetarian diet is not only healthier, but can help you shed bad fat all while reducing your chances of developing obesity related diseases like diabetes.

She been here before. Last spring, on the advice of author Kathy Freston, Oprah, went vegan for 21 days as part of a detox and cleanse routine.

So come on, O! Take the sunglasses off and stop hiding in shame. Come back over to the veg side!

Not only would Oprah say see ya to the extra 40, but she could finally end years of yo-yo dieting as being vegetarian and vegan is about a lifestyle-not a prescribed formula for eating.

Not to mention she could finally grant Alicia Silverstone her wish and do a naked ad promoting vegetarianism.

Anne Hathaway: Easier To Eat Meat While Dating Raffaello Follieri

Written by Vegetarian Star on Wednesday, December 17th, 2008 in Actresses, Food & Drink.

Anne Hathaway Joins Forces With Netflix & Feeding America To Combat Hunger

Anne Hathaway is gracing the cover of the January 2009 issue of Vogue magazine, discussing her new life and all the changes she’s made since ditching her currently behind bars ex Raffaello Follieri.

She said she ate meat while dating him because it was “easier for the lifestyle at that time,” but soon banished that quicker than a jury can say, “guilty.”

“I don’t eat anything with a face,” she said, referring to her new diet, which she discussed a few months ago on David Letterman

She also can kick your butt-she’s taken up kickboxing lessons with Hollywood fitness guru David Kirsch.

You gotta wonder what she meant when she said eating meat was easier for the lifestyle when dating Follieri? Did he insist on only stocking steak in his fridge?

Will Anthony Kiedis Get Duped By Docs?

Written by Vegetarian Star on Wednesday, December 17th, 2008 in Male Musicians, Male Singers.

Anthony Kiedis Hosts American Eagle Outfitters' New American Music Union

Anthony Kiedis experienced some real “Scar Tissue,” this past summer. His kidneys almost failed him and there was even talk of needing a transplant as he made repeat visits to Los Angeles’ Cedars-Sinai Medical Center for treatment, according to E! Online.

“Anthony’s health was pretty bleak,” a source said. “Organ failure was a possibility.”

The Red Hot Chili Peppers singer is doing better, but with all the celebrities who don’t eat meat having doctors telling them biting into a burger will ease their maladies lately, it makes you wonder? In the midst of Anthony’s health situation, do you think he’ll have at least one doc telling him, “A chicken wing a day keeps the doctor (and further kidney problems) away?”

Years of drugs and alcohol abuse did the damage, but Kiedis has come a long way to clean up his act, turning vegan almost a decade ago, on the advice of one smart doc. He even took up yoga!

Incidentally, Anthony hired his own personal vegan chef, Laura Dakin this past summer as well. It’s possible he knew he would need to watch his nutrition even more carefully since learning of his liver problems, so he hired Laura to help him out.

What do you guys think? Will Anthony stay on the straight veg course? Did he hire Laura because he knew he needed the best vegan super food in such a time of dire need? Chime in and let us know your thoughts!
