Veggie Man Alec Baldwin Wins First Emmy!

Written by Vegetarian Star on Wednesday, September 24th, 2008 in Actors.

60th Primetime Emmy Awards in Los Angeles

This man deserves a vegan, eco-friendly bowling bag!

Alec Baldwin has been what Susan Lucci was for Hollywood awards for a long time: Always nominated, never won. That changed a few nights ago when he won his very first Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series for “30 Rock.”

Break out the wine and vegan cheese!

Baldwin has played both lead and supportive roles in several veggie films, including “Meet Your Meat,” PETA’s documentation of slaughterhouse conditions, hosting the premier of Blinders, a documentary on the negative effects of horse drawn carriages, as well as a public service announcement for PETA on behalf of animals used in the entertainment industry.

Congrats to Alec, and continue with the good work!

Amazing Race Couple Has Veggie Half

Written by Vegetarian Star on Wednesday, September 24th, 2008 in Athletes-Games-Sports, Reality TV.

Image: CBS

Terence Gerchberg and Sarah Leshner are one of the 11 couples who will compete for $1 million in the CBS reality TV show, The Amazing Race, which premiers Sunday, September 28th.

According to cbs.com, the two have been a pair for almost a year and are quite the example of opposites attract. Sarah is an MBA holding financial analyst on Wall Street while Terence is a running coach who sells real estate on the side to make some extra dough. Sarah is low maintenance, while Terence is emotional.  It’s a good thing this is The Amazing Race and not Survivor as Terence wouldn’t be too found of eating roasted rats. Sarah eats meat, but keeps kosher, Terence doesn’t eat any meat at all.

The Amazing Race pairs people who already have an existing relationship and sends them around the world via various modes of transportation to hunt for clues about their next destination. It’s literally a “race” to get there before the other couple does to avoid the risk of elimination. This is done in addition to performing various tasks that are often culturally related to the country they’re visiting. This season’s show was filmed last spring and contestants traveled 30,000 miles across five continents in 23 days, making stops in cities like Cambodia and Kazakhstan.

Carrie Underwood Chooses Animals Over Men

Written by Vegetarian Star on Tuesday, September 23rd, 2008 in Female Musicians, Female Singers.

CBS's The Early Show Presents Carrie Underwood In Concert

Once again, an oldie, but goodie.

Did Tony Romo get tossed away for Babe or Fido?

After Carrie Underwood won American Idol in 2005, she answered 20 questions for CMT about herself. When asked if she had to choose between animals and men, she replied, “I haven’t found a good man, yet. I’ve found lots of good animals, so I’d go with animals.”

Ouch! Her next beau will have to work really hard to measure up to all the relationships she’s had in the past with (non-human) animals. Growing up in rural Oklahoma, she bottled fed cows and befriended piglets and loved them so much, she gradually phased eating meat out of her life between the ages of 10-13.

Should Ben Lee Be De-Throned?

Written by Vegetarian Star on Monday, September 22nd, 2008 in Male Musicians, Male Singers.

Ben Lee Plays Max Sessions Concert

Australian singer-songwriter Ben Lee was voted one of the World’s Sexiest Vegetarians earlier this year, but a technicality could call for a recount.

A recount? He’s in Australia, not Florida! But maybe there is a good reason for this. It seems that even though the “Catch My Disease” singer hasn’t eaten red meat in about a decade, he still eats fish. World’s Sexiest Pescatarian?

“I’m not sure I’m technically a vegetarian,” he said in an interview with the Sunday Mail.
“I mean, I was totally vegetarian for 10 years and I don’t eat red meat and I try to limit my consumption of animal products, but I don’t know if I technically qualify. I eat fish.”

“I don’t know if they’re (PETA) really judging by sexiness or just by the fact you are roughly, vaguely a vegetarian.”

Hmm…What do you guys think? Are we talking about complete vegetarians or are the occasional fish eaters sexy enough for PETA?

Red Hot Chili Peppers’ Anthony Kiedis Has Own Vegan Chef

Written by Vegetarian Star on Monday, September 22nd, 2008 in Male Musicians, Male Singers.

Anthony Kiedis Hosts American Eagle Outfitters' New American Music Union - Day Two

At Vegetarian Star, we are natural food voyeurers. So we wonder what our favorite Red Hot Chili Pepper, Anthony Kiedis, gets cooked up for him daily. Suppose we’d have to ask his personal chef, Laura Dakin.

Kiedis hired her last month as a full-time, round the clock vegan chef. Incidentally, this happened shortly after his break up with 3 year girlfriend Heather Christy. Maybe he wasn’t ready for another girlfriend, just someone to do girlfriend cooking duties-ha, ha!

But anyway, we don’t know exactly what Dakin is cooking for Kiedis these days (we can’t find a Kiedis blog-if anyone knows of one, please let us know and help bring food voyeurism to everyone). One of PETA’s 2008 sexiest vegetarians decided to go veg after a doctor recommended it for his son and watching a factory farm video “sealed the deal” as he’s said in interviews.

Chrissie Hynde Waiting For McDonald’s To Burn To The Ground

Written by Vegetarian Star on Monday, September 22nd, 2008 in Female Musicians, Female Singers.

BFI 51st London Film Festival: Interview Premiere

Chrissie Hynde of The Pretenders is quite ambitious. Her goal is to be alive long enough to see McDonald’s burn to the ground. How’s that for a New Year’s resolution?

The rocker, who co-owns a vegan restaurant, The Vegiterranean, in her hometown of Akron, Ohio, is set to release a new album, Break Up The Concrete, in October. She sat down with Rolling Stone magazine to chit chat about lots of things vegetarian.

Her favorites on the The Vegiterranean menu include gnocchi and the Biker burgers.

“My pledge is that I will remain on this earth until the last McDonald’s has been burned to the ground,” she said.

She also drops some facts like a vegetarian driving a Hummer has less impact on the earth than a meat eater. Go read the story for yourself to find out more.
